  Narcissism is a psychological concept that has long fascinated scholars, psychologists, and the general public alike. While narcissistic traits can manifest in different ways, they generally revolve around an inflated self-image, a deep need for admiration, and difficulties in forming genuine emotional connections. The term originates from the Greek myth of Narcissus, a young man who fell in love with his own reflection, ultimately leading to his demise. This myth serves as a metaphor for the dangers of extreme self-obsession and the inability to recognize the needs of others. 
  At its core, narcissism exists on a spectrum. A healthy level of self-esteem and confidence is essential for personal development and success. However, when self-love becomes excessive and is coupled with an absence of empathy, it can lead to behaviors that harm relationships, work environments, and even societal structures. Narcissism can manifest in subtle ways, such as a tendency to dominate conversations or dismiss opposing viewpoints, or in more extreme forms, such as manipulative behavior and an inability to accept criticism. 
  The role of self-love and empathy in human behavior is a delicate balance.   The Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) protests were a defining moment in the intersection of environmental advocacy and Indigenous rights. Proposed to transport crude oil from the Bakken oil fields in North Dakota to Illinois, the pipeline’s route crossed sacred lands and the Missouri River, threatening water supplies and cultural heritage. While its proponents touted economic benefits and energy security, the project drew fierce resistance from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and their allies, sparking a global movement.  
    
  At its core, the DAPL protests highlighted long-standing issues of environmental justice and the marginalization of Indigenous peoples in America. For centuries, Native American communities have faced the erosion of their sovereignty and disregard for their land rights. The pipeline’s route through unceded treaty lands underscored systemic failures to honor agreements and protect sacred sites. Moreover, it served as a stark reminder of the broader environmental challenges tied to fossil fuel dependence and its impact on climate change.  
    
  The Standing Rock protests grew into a powerful grassroots campaign that united activists, environmentalists, and Indigenous groups from around the world.   Ancient and Medieval Conspiracy...

  Perhaps it should also not be surprising that the themes found in contemporary conspiracy theories are often echoed in ancient conspiracy theories. While some people still insist that Lyndon B. Johnson was in on John F. Kennedy’s assassination, it was speculated across the ancient world that the young Macedonian king, Alexander the Great, conspired to have his own father, Philip II of Macedon, assassinated. Likewise, the New Age beliefs that Mesoamerican ruins in Mexico were somehow tied to extraterrestrials find common cause with people who believe the ancient Indus Valley site at Mohenjo-daro was destroyed by a nuclear weapon. And through it all, the lack of surviving documentary evidence about much of antiquity has allowed for all of the unknowns to become highly speculative sources of debate. For example, did Caesar’s men burn the Library of Alexandria in the 1st century B.C., or was it destroyed later, if at all? Some people even suggest that the Library of Alexandria, whose ruins have never been located, never existed at all.  
  	Few eras are easier to let the imagination run wild than the Middle Ages, which have often been coined the Dark Ages based on a perceived lack of progress and information. In some respects, that is not completely unfounded because less is known about that historical period compared to the eras that came after it. In addition, it was a period marked by a great number of deaths caused by plague epidemics, crusades, and inquisitorial persecutions. Often, researchers are not even sure how and why certain events happened, and these mysteries still occupy the attention of historians. 
  	At the same time, some historical mysteries about the era may never be solved, if only because the relevant excavated material has been lost or the archaeological site has been destroyed. Of course, the lack of answers only makes these enigmas more intriguing.
