Sinopse

In "An Encyclopedist of the Dark Ages: Isidore of Seville," Ernest Brehaut presents a comprehensive exploration of one of the most significant intellectual figures of the early Middle Ages. Brehaut meticulously examines Isidore's contributions to knowledge, particularly through his seminal work, the Etymologies, which sought to compile and organize the vast body of classical learning rendered accessible in a time often characterized by decay and obscurantism. The book'Äôs literary style is deeply analytical, intertwining historical context with a lucid narrative that encourages readers to appreciate Isidore not just as a scholar, but as a bridge between antiquity and medieval thought. Ernest Brehaut, a prominent historian of medieval studies, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his analysis of Isidore. His academic background and interest in the intellectual currents of the Dark Ages have undoubtedly shaped this work, allowing him to draw nuanced connections between Isidore'Äôs scholarship and the wider cultural and religious transformations of his time. Brehaut's ability to contextualize Isidore's achievements within historical frameworks reveals the enduring legacy of this influential figure. This book is a must-read for anyone fascinated by medieval scholarship, the development of encyclopedic traditions, or the interplay of faith and reason during a pivotal era in Western history. Brehaut'Äôs engaging prose and scholarly rigor ultimately illuminate the profound impact of Isidore of Seville, making this work an invaluable addition to the library of scholars, students, and enthusiasts alike.

This audiobook has been recorded using Text to speech (TTS).

There have been many attempts to encapsulate and explain the many mysteries that surround us; these include everything from the contents of the Vatican Secret Archives, the paranormal and Ufology and even subjects that seem to slip between the cracks of reality into the realm of high strangeness.

And now the United States government has finally admitted that many of the unexplained sightings of craft may very well be alien technology.

This book draws on all of these threads as it weaves its way thought the many twists, turns and possibilities that define the subjects discussed.

Just about all of the subjects examined are interlinked at one level or another. It is as if the ancient eastern concept of ‘oneness’ was recognised by our forefathers, long before the arcane physics of quantum mechanics demonstrated its reality. Perhaps this is a contributing factor to the belief that all points in space and time are interconnected. In fact it is thought that this peculiarity is how UFOs manage to traverse the incredible distances between the stars and perhaps even the galaxies.

Of course from our current level of knowledge, the ‘mechanics’ of such a technology can only be speculated upon. Or can it? We’re about to discover.

This book will discover and explain who these aliens are, how they come and why.

Drawing from both ancient wisdom and modern neuroscience, it explores how our relationship with silence, solitude, and simplicity shapes our capacity for peace. The book's unique approach lies in its recognition that calmness isn't the absence of chaos but the ability to find stillness within it, teaching readers how to navigate life's complexities with grace and presence. Through chapters that flow like gentle streams of consciousness, readers discover that the path to tranquility isn't about adding more techniques to their lives, but about remembering their innate capacity for peace.

In this long-overdue celebration of Black women’s resilience and unheralded strength, the revered, trailblazing White House correspondent reflects on “The Year That Changed Everything”—2020—and African-American women’s unprecedented role in upholding democracy.
“I am keenly aware that everyone and everything has a story,” April D. Ryan acknowledges. “Also, I have always marveled at Black women and how we work to move mountains and are never really thanked or recognized.” In Black Women Will Save the World, she melds these two truths, creating an inspiring and heart-tugging portrait of one of the momentous years in America, 2020—when America elected its first Black woman Vice President—and celebrates the tenacity, power, and impact of Black women across America.
From the beginning of the nation to today, Black women have transformed their pain into progress and have been at the frontlines of the nation’s political, social, and economic struggles. These “Sheroes” as Ryan calls them, include current political leaders such as Maxine Waters, Valerie Jarrett, and Kamala Harris; Brittany Packnett Cunningham, LaTosha Brown, and other activists; and artists like Regina King. Combining profiles and in-depth interviews with these influential movers and shakers and many more, Ryan explores the challenges Black women endure, and how the lessons they’ve learned can help us shape our own stories. Ryan also chronicles her personal journey from working-class Baltimore to the elite echelons of journalism and speaks out about the hurdles she faced in becoming one of the most well-connected members of the Washington press corps—while raising two daughters as a single mother in the aftermath of a messy divorce.
It is time for everyone to acknowledge Black women’s unrivaled contributions to America. Yet our democracy remains in peril, and their work is far from done. Black Women Will Save the World presents a vital kaleidoscopic look at women of different ages and from diverse backgrounds who devote their lives to making the world a better place—even if that means stepping out of their “place.”

An unhappy childhood often affects who we become in adulthood and our capacity to enjoy whatever successes we achieve. In Healing of a Psychotherapist: A Journey of Rebellion, Reflection, and Redemption, Charles McCormack, MA, MSW, LCSW-C, uses his own life in illustration. With searing honesty, McCormack lays bare his personal and professional ordeals, along with the lessons he’s drawn and continues to draw. Though his story is unique, his struggles are not; thus, McCormack’s narrative works its way into the heart of each of us. His take home, the one given to him by his mother on her deathbed, is clear. Staring into his eyes, she was emphatic: “Charlie. Have a good life. Have a good life.,” refusing to break her hold upon him until he finally committed, “I will, mom, I will, “ all the while thinking, “how the hell do I do that?” McCormack hopes that sharing his story through this book brings his readers insight and healing.
Mr. McCormack holds master's degrees in Psychology and Social Work. Since 1974, he has worked in in-patient psychiatric units, family violence, sexual abuse treatment, and SUDs treatment programs, and private practice. In 1988, he was named the Senior Social Worker of Adult Long-term Inpatient Services at Sheppard Pratt. His writings include “Treatment of the Borderline/Schizoid Couple,” "Treating Borderline States in Marriage," and "Essence" (memoir), awarded the Montaigne Medal for being the most thought-provoking of books. He was a long-term faculty member of the Washington School Psychiatry and Clinician of the Year (Maryland Society of Clinical Social Work). Long before social work embraced trauma-informed approaches, McCormack wrote about and trained social workers in ways of conceptualizing and humanizing work with individuals and couples impacted by major psychopathology. In 2023, McCormack was the recipient of the University of Maryland School of Social Work's Emeritus Award for contributions to the profession.
