  Daniel Shenkin born into a working class community of the 19th century scarred and buried in the bowels of the coal mines and forged in the Ironworks of his black South Wales valley. He gambles, loves and bare knuckle fights for survival. He is determined to form a union. The protest he leads turns into a revolt. Working men and soldiers are killed or wounded. Together with his side kick the giant of a man Regan O'Hara he is sentenced to transportation for a term of 20 years in the penal colonies of Australia. His grounding in brutality is completed on the prison hulks and the convict ship the Runnymede. The ship is captained by the tyrant Josiah Moxey and joint owned by the decadent Lord Feltsham. They have smuggled loot from London on to the ship and Shenkin knows to much. They want him dead but Shenkin's pride,determination and two fisted approach, while even in chains, sees him survive. He finds love in the form of Elizabeth Moxey the niece of the captain and the friendship of the ship's doctor. His resilience proves to much for Moxey and Lord Felthsham to handle on their own. They enlist the dregs of the convict ship and sadistic guards of the penal prison to kill him. It is a roller coaster of an adventure in the cold bowels of the earth then on the sea and land. Everything is against him his background, the sovereign state, the men that are out to kill him, but he carries his pride in his two fists. Shenkin is a dangerous man a 19th century ' rebel with a cause ' his cause is to survive - don't stand in his way.

  Spiritualism - A tale from the...

  Mayer André Marcel Schwob was born in Chaville, Hauts-de-Seine, France on 23rd August 1867 into a cultivated Jewish family.  
   
  As a child he devoured the works of Poe and Stevenson in French and then again in English.  His attachment to the bizarre and dark was already forming. 
   
  His education at the Lycée of Nantes earned him the 1st Prize for Excellence.  In 1881, he was in Paris with his maternal uncle to study at the Lycée Louis-le-Grand.  Schwob quickly developed his multilingual abilities and then studied philology and Sanscrit at the École pratique des hautes études before completing his military service in Vannes with the artillery. 
   
  After completing a Bachelor of Arts in 1888 he became a professional journalist and worked for the Phare de la Loire, the Événement and L'Écho de Paris. 
   
  The 1890’s marked his establishment as a brilliant writer with the publication of six short story collections.   
   
  He fell ill in 1896 with a chronic, incurable intestinal disorder.  He also suffered recurring bouts of influenza and pneumonia.  Intestinal surgery was given several times, at first with success but, by 1900, after two more surgeries, he was told that nothing more could be done for him.  Schwob now existed on kefir and fermented milk. 
   
  By the turn of the century, despite failing health, and often too ill to write, he embarked on several long travels, including to Vailima in the South Pacific where his literary hero Stevenson had died.  
   
  Schwob was regarded as a symbolist writer and a ‘precursor of Surrealism’.  He wrote over a hundred short stories, journalistic articles, essays, biographies, literary reviews and analysis, translations and plays.  
   
  Marcel Schwob died on 26th February 1905 of Pneumonia.  He was 37.

  No Lookin' Back was brought to life early one Sunday morning in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, where the authors Ted and Linda Riddle lived. Ted sat straight up in bed and said, "I know how I died." That startled Linda, who was asleep next to him. His story flowed in such a way, it brought tears and laughter to her. She grabbed a yellow tablet and pencil and began writing. He did not slow down, so she could catch up. Soon, she found a tape recorder and began recording this saga. Linda knew that this was not a dream. The tone of his voice was different and even the dialect was strange, as Ted continued well into the morning. Later, when they both realized that this "gift", had to be published, Ted asked Linda to "add the sunsets and the eagles flying." Names of their family members and friends were added, as the story developed. The story begins during the Civil War, when Thomas Jefferson Summers and his brother John, join the Union Army. As Ted continues with his tale, he even knows the name of his wife, children, places and events. He knows how he died, so that is the first chapter in the book. The journey takes Tom and the reader through many life-threatening adventures, at every turn. Based on facts from Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma Territory, Texas, Kansas and Colorado, and a timeline of early western history, you feel that you are living each moment. 
  There has never been a time or place like the early American West. Freedom was the quest of all who sought her.
