Synopsis

In "The Meditations of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius Antoninus", readers are invited into the introspective mind of one of history's most revered rulers. Written in Greek, this work is not a formal treatise but rather a series of personal reflections and philosophical musings. It embodies Stoicism, a philosophy that advocates resilience and virtue, emphasizing the importance of rationality and self-discipline in the face of life's challenges. Each entry is a glimpse into Marcus's continual struggle with the moral and ethical dilemmas of leadership, offering profound insights that transcend time, as his thoughts reveal a tapestry of insights on duty, humility, and the nature of human existence within the broader cosmos of interconnection and fate. Marcus Aurelius, a Stoic philosopher, ruled as Emperor from 161 to 180 AD and is often regarded as the last of the

Brilliantly original novelist and cultural critic Lynne Tillman became one of nearly 53 million Americans who care for a sick family member when her mother developed an unusual and little understood condition called Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus.

Instantly, Tillman's independent and spirited mother went from someone she knew to someone else, a woman entirely dependent on her children—an eleven-year process through which her mother underwent many surgeries and some misdiagnoses, while the family navigated consultations and confrontations with doctors, adjusting to the complexity of her cognitive issues, including memory loss.

With her notoriously exquisite writing style and reputation as a "rich noticer of strange things" (Colm Toíbín), Tillman describes, without flinching, the unexpected, heartbreaking, and frustrating years of caring for a sick parent.

Mothercare is both a cautionary tale and sympathetic guidance for anyone who suddenly becomes a caregiver, responsible for the life of another—a parent, loved or not, or a friend. This story may be helpful, informative, consoling, or upsetting, but it never fails to underscore how impossible it is to get the job done completely right.

An Original Audiobook Production by W. F. Howes, written and presented by Caryn Franklin and Professor Keon West, with special guests.

    •	How do news outlets choose which crimes to report on – and does it matter?
    •	What do Disney films teach us about who is good and who is dangerous?
    •	Can adverts really change how we think and behave?

Underpinning these questions looms the spectre of bias; the hidden force that frames our thinking and skews the facts. This provocative audio original will have you rethinking everything from pornography and pop music to children’s books and fashion.
Tackling the complex subject of bias head on, Skewed investigates the hidden messages we absorb from birth. Looking closely at what the research can tell us, Caryn Franklin and Professor Keon West explain how our inner worlds are shaped by false information, media trends, and the brain’s preference for patterns and stereotypes. Exploring biases around gender, sexuality, race, age and appearance, Caryn and Keon explain how bias impacts all of our lives.
Through conversations with a diverse range of voices - from cognitive psychologists to activists and entertainers – Caryn and Keon offer a vision for an alternative future; a world in which we recognise and manage bias, and one in which diversity and difference can truly flourish.
Guest interviews include campaigner and life coach Michelle Elman, author academic and drag artist Cheddar Gorgeous, creative director and campaigner Trevor Robinson, forensic psychologist Dr Dominic Willmott and many more.

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice.
During the postwar years, the United States initiated a comprehensive trial program in Germany to address Nazi crimes. This program included three main sets of trials: the International Military Trial at Nuremberg, the Nuremberg Military Tribunals, and trials conducted at the Dachau concentration camp. The Dachau trials focused on prosecuting individuals involved in atrocities at several camps liberated by American forces, such as Dachau, Mauthausen, Buchenwald, Flossenbürg, and Dora-Mittelbau.
These trials were a critical effort by the United States to punish Nazi crimes within the concentration camps. Over 1,000 defendants were tried at Dachau for violating the laws of war, as defined by international and American military norms. The legal process faced challenges due to the unprecedented nature of the crimes. A notable innovation in the Dachau trials was the use of a criminal conspiracy charge, which accused defendants of participating in the standard criminal design of the concentration camp system as a criminal organization.
However, after 1947 and 1948, issues arose due to inadequate planning for the trials' aftermath, particularly regarding the appellate process for convicted individuals. This became more pressing amid escalating tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union. Two scandals drew public attention, leading to official investigations by the U.S. Congress into the Dachau tribunal program.
While the reviews were critical of the Army's handling of clemency, they largely praised the trials themselves. Despite this, over time, the Dachau trials faded from public memory.

In the mid-1960s, the course of Arthur Janov's professional life as a psychotherapist changed in a single day. During a therapy session, Dr. Janov heard, "an eerie scream welling up from the depths of a young man who was lying on the floor." Janov came to believe that this scream was the product of some unconscious, intangible wound that the patient was unable to resolve— an event the psychotherapist coined " Primal Pain." Janov subsequently devoted his professional life to the investigation of that underlying pain and the development of a precise, scientific therapy that could mitigate its lifelong effects. First published in 1970, The Primal Scream challenged all existing forms of therapy of its time by presenting a new approach to psychotherapy— an approach based on Janov's theory that neurosis is caused by the repressed pain of childhood trauma.
