Sinopsis

Mind Puzzles explores the crucial role of psychology and logical reasoning in solving true crime mysteries, demonstrating how detectives utilize cognitive strategies to uncover the truth. The book examines how cognitive biases, mental shortcuts that can impact witness testimonies and suspect interrogations, can either help or hinder investigations. It also highlights the importance of deductive and inductive reasoning, showcasing how detectives piece together clues to construct narratives and identify perpetrators. This book uniquely emphasizes the mental processes employed by successful detectives, distinguishing it from typical true crime narratives. It traces the evolution of psychological techniques in law enforcement, from early profiling methods to modern cognitive interviewing. Real-world cases illustrate how these techniques have shaped current practices, revealing both successes and failures.

The book progresses by first introducing fundamental concepts of psychological investigation, such as logical fallacies and critical thinking. Subsequent chapters delve into eyewitness testimony analysis, suspect interrogation techniques, and criminal profiling, using case studies to illustrate these concepts in practice. The culmination integrates psychological and logical tools into a framework for investigative problem-solving, providing readers with enhanced critical thinking skills applicable to both professional and personal contexts.

How Russians, the Rich and the Government Try to Prevent Free Speech and How to Stop Them.
    ‘ESSENTIAL’ Amal Clooney
    ‘AUTHORITATIVE’ Sir Geoffrey Bindman KC
    ‘IMPORTANT ’Baroness Helena Kennedy KC
‘COULD HARDLY BE MORE TIMELY’ Alan Rusbridger
The British tradition of “free speech” is a myth. From the middle ages to the present, the law of defamation has worked to cover up misbehaviour by the rich and powerful, whose legal mercenaries intimidate investigative journalists.
Now a new terror has been added through misguided judicial development of the laws of privacy, breach of confidence and data protection, to suppress the reporting of truths of public importance to tell.
Drawing upon the author’s unparalleled experience of defending journalists and editors in English and Commonwealth courtrooms over the past half-century, the book describes the hidden world of lawfare, in which authors struggle against unfair rules that put them always on the defensive and against a costs burden that runs to millions. Law schools do not teach freedom of speech and judges in the Supreme Court do not understand it.
This book identifies and advocates the reforms that will be necessary before Britain can truly boast that it is a land of free speech, rather than a place where free speech can come very expensive.
Robertson's latest exploration into media censorship is a political exposé of the new forms of litigation. His best work yet, it is a must-read for anyone interested in the fight for free speech.

They Came Before Columbus by Ivan Van Sertima is a groundbreaking and dramatic reexamination of world history that challenges long-held assumptions about who first reached the Americas.
Drawing on archaeology, anthropology, linguistics, historical records, and oral traditions, Van Sertima builds a powerful body of evidence showing that African civilizations crossed the Atlantic centuries before Columbus. He examines advanced African navigation and shipbuilding, striking cultural parallels between Africans and Native Americans, the transoceanic exchange of plants, animals, and textiles, and firsthand accounts preserved in diaries and journals of early explorers. Together, these elements form a compelling case for an African presence and influence in the ancient New World.
Blending rigorous scholarship with a storyteller’s voice, Van Sertima vividly re-creates some of the most extraordinary moments of human exploration, including the launch of the great Malian fleets in the early 14th century and the legendary sea voyages of West African kings. Through these narratives, listeners encounter the unmistakable imprint of African knowledge, skill, and culture on pre-Columbian American civilizations.
Provocative, meticulously researched, and deeply engaging, They Came Before Columbus is essential listening for anyone interested in history, African studies, archaeology, or the untold stories that reshape our understanding of the global past. This audiobook challenges conventional narratives and invites listeners to rediscover history through a richer, more expansive view of the human past.

In his 15th book, the author of As A Man Thinketh lays out the eight core characteristics required for growing lifelong prosperity. these are Energy, in body and mind; Economy, in prudent management of one's resources; Integrity in all your dealings; System in all your actions; Sympathy towards all men and things; Sincerity in your approach to the world and yourself; Self-reliance; and Impartiality in all judgement and action.
For each of these pillars, Allen explores the component parts of the pillar, building up a solid foundation for your existence that can weather any storm and emerge from it better and stronger.
The book's argument rests on Allen's belief in an absolute law of cause and effect in the mental and moral realm, which he views as just as fixed as the laws of physics. He asserts that circumstances are the direct result of one's inner thoughts and character. Therefore, cultivating these eight virtues is presented as the practical method to shape one's destiny and achieve true prosperity.
James Allen (1864–1912) was a British philosophical writer and a pioneer of the modern self-help and New Thought movements. He wrote Eight Pillars of Prosperity in the later stage of his career. This book is a practical extension of his core philosophy, providing a structured, virtue-based framework for applying that principle to achieve worldly success and stability.
His work is thematically aligned with that of other New Thought authors like Wallace D. Wattles (The Science of Getting Rich) and Florence Scovel Shinn (The Game of Life and How to Play It), who also emphasized the power of thought and spiritual law in achieving success.

Varṇaprastha is a stage of life in the Vedic tradition often considered as the third stage in the four stages of life (āśrama) outlined in the ancient Vedas. Varṇaprastha, which means "retiring into the woods," is characterized by a gradual withdrawal from worldly affairs and a focus on spiritual pursuits. The stage of Varṇaprastha is typically undertaken by people in their fifties or sixties after they have completed their duties as householders and raised their children. In this stage, individuals are encouraged to devote themselves to spiritual pursuits, including meditation, prayer, and the study of religious texts, and detach themselves from material possessions and desires.

During Varṇaprastha, individuals are expected to detach themselves from their families and communities gradually and to live an ascetic lifestyle. They may choose to live in seclusion in the forest or in a hermitage, or they may continue to live with their families in a more detached and spiritually-focused manner. The purpose of this stage is to prepare individuals for the final stage of life, sannyasa, in which they renounce all material possessions and dedicate themselves fully to spiritual pursuits. The stage of Varṇaprastha is considered an important part of the spiritual journey, allowing individuals to focus on their spiritual growth and prepare themselves for the eventual goal of liberation from the cycle of birth and death.

As baby boomers retire and enter their later years, many are turning to spirituality and religion as a source of comfort and guidance. Some are seeking a deeper connection to a higher power, while others are looking for a sense of community and purpose in their lives. This trend has led to an increase in the popularity of yoga, meditation, and other spiritual practices among this generation.

Narrated by author, Emmy-nominated actor, and lifelong Bhakti yogi Sripad Jagannatha Das.
