Sinopse

Underwater Combat explores the multifaceted world of fighting beneath the surface, revealing how the aquatic environment shapes military and sporting strategies. This exploration goes beyond recounting historical events, offering a comprehensive framework for understanding underwater combat effectiveness. From ancient siege tactics to modern special forces, water's influence on combat, movement, and speed is profound. The book uniquely integrates historical analysis with scientific principles, such as fluid dynamics and human physiology, making complex concepts accessible.

The book progresses logically, beginning with the physics of underwater movement, including drag and buoyancy. It then transitions to the evolution of underwater combat tactics, highlighting early frogmen and contemporary underwater demolition teams. Finally, it examines the physiological challenges faced by combatants, such as pressure and oxygen toxicity.

By drawing on historical accounts, technical manuals, and first-hand narratives, Underwater Combat provides valuable insights for military historians, sports enthusiasts, and anyone interested in the demands of underwater operations.

This is the extraordinary story of how salt fish from Shetland became one of the staple foods of Europe, powered an economic boom, and inspired artists, writers, and musicians.

It ranges from the wild waters of the North Atlantic, the ice-filled fjords of Greenland and the remote islands of Faroe to the dining tables of London's middle classes, the bacalao restaurants of Spain and the Jewish shtetls of Eastern Europe.

As well as following the historical thread and exploring how very different cultures were drawn together by the salt fish trade, John Goodlad meets those whose lives revolve around the industry in the twenty-first century and addresses today's pressing themes of sustainability, climate change, and food choices.

Much pro-life ministry is focused on encouraging women to say yes to life rather than terminate their pregnancies. But what happens after that decision has been made? Who will provide that mother, who likely considered abortion because she could not see how she could afford to have a child, with the long-term emotional support, education, and guidance that will help her out of poverty?

Economics and abortion are intrinsically linked, and if pro-life ministry is to make a real difference in the lives of women and families, it must expand its perspective beyond that initial yes in order to address the underlying problem of generational poverty. In Beyond Her Yes, cofounder of RENEW Life Center Marisol Maldonado Rodriguez helps you understand the full impact that poverty has on women making life decisions and then shows how a comprehensive approach to pro-life ministries can make a far greater impact.

Saving the lives of the not-yet-born is just the first step. Discover how you can be part of saving entire families from a life of hardship and hard choices.

    The City of The Sun

The City of the Sun is a philosophical work by the Italian Dominican philosopher Tommaso Campanella. It is an important early utopian work. The work was written in Italian in 1602, shortly after Campanella's imprisonment for heresy and sedition. A Latin version was written in 1613–1614 and published in Frankfurt in 1623.
The book is presented as a dialogue between "a Grandmaster of the Knights Hospitaller and a Genoese Sea-Captain". Inspired by Plato's Republic and the description of Atlantis in Timaeus, it describes a theocratic society where goods, women and children are held in common. It also resembles the City of Adocentyn in the Picatrix, an Arabic grimoire of astrological magic. In the final part of the work, Campanella prophesies—in the veiled language of astrology—that the Spanish kings, in alliance with the Pope, are destined to be the instruments of a Divine Plan: the final victory of the True Faith and its diffusion in the whole world. While one could argue that Campanella was simply thinking of the conquest of the New World, it seems that this prophecy should be interpreted in the light of a work written shortly before The City of the Sun, The Monarchy in Spain, in which Campanella exposes his vision of a unified, peaceful world governed by a theocratic monarchy.
