Sinopse

In "The Solitary Summer," Elizabeth Von Arnim delves into the intricate interplay of nature, solitude, and the quest for self-discovery, enveloping readers in the lush backdrop of the German countryside. Written in a lyrical yet conversational style, the narrative is imbued with rich descriptions and profound reflections that capture the existential musings of the protagonist, who seeks respite from the expectations of society. The novel stands as an emblem of the early 20th-century literary movement that favored personal introspection and the portrayal of women's experiences, marking it as a precursor to later feminist literature. Elizabeth Von Arnim, a prominent figure of her time, was deeply influenced by her own experiences as a writer, wife, and mother, often finding solace in nature amidst societal constraints. Her astute observations of the domestic sphere and her longing for autonomy resonate within this work, reflecting her personal struggles and desires to escape the confines of traditional roles. A notable friend of influential literary figures such as Katherine Mansfield and Ralph Waldo Emerson, Von Arnim's work frequently showcases her wit and critique of social norms. I highly recommend "The Solitary Summer" to readers who appreciate the subtleties of nature writing and are drawn to narratives exploring the female perspective in the quest for identity. This novel invites profound reflection on solitude and the beauty found in the quiet moments of life, making it a timeless exploration of the human spirit.

Roger Dean Craig, a Deputy Sheriff in Dallas, found himself unwittingly thrust into history in the fall of 1963 when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. His eyewitness account and subsequent testimony would become a crucial piece of the puzzle. Craig was on duty in Dallas on November 22nd. The officer was initially disoriented by the sudden bursts of gunfire however, he quickly moved toward the source - the Texas School Book Depository. It was there, near the grassy knoll, Craig would have an encounter that would later define his role in the assassination. The deputy observed a man running from the building who then left in a station wagon driven by another man.

Craig saw the man again in the office of Captain Will Fritz. It was the recently arrested Lee Harvey Oswald. When the officer told his story about the man being picked up Oswald replied: "That station wagon belongs to Mrs. Paine... Don't try to tie her into this. She had nothing to do with it." Craig was also with Seymour Weitzman, Will Fritz, Eugene Boone, and Luke Mooney when the historic rifle was found on the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository. Craig insisted the rifle was a 7.65 Mauser and not a Mannlicher-Carcano.

His testimony became crucial in the Warren Commission's investigation into Kennedy's assassination. Craig's account differed greatly from the official narrative, and he faced considerable pressure and scrutiny. Standing firm Craig found himself at odds with the official findings. Over the years, he faced many personal and professional challenges as a result of his involvement in this historic event. Craig spoke out about his experiences, even authoring a book titled "When They Kill a President," in which he detailed his observations and the difficulties he faced in the aftermath of that tragic day. This is his riveting untold story!

He's breaking down walls and she's building them higher—
A match made in Heaven, or a blueprint for disaster?
After the fiery downward spiral of senior year, Kit Talbot crash-lands on a quirky college campus where traditions rule and dorm floors act more like family. It's just weird enough to keep her mind off the wreckage she's leaving behind.
Enter Levi Whitaker, known as the swooniest guy on campus. Magnetic, confident, and far too much like the ex who sent her life into that PTSD-tainted nosedive. Levi seems to be everywhere, focused on her like she's the only girl in the world—even indulging her sugar addiction with delivered treats. But Kit's self-preservation instincts are sharper than ever, and she deflects him like Wonder Woman blocking bullets.
That is, until Levi's quiet faith and humble apology start to break down Kit's defenses. He loves Jesus in the dreamiest way, looks like wow, and ... somehow triggers the flashbacks she fights so hard to avoid. Every minute with him is a risk she isn't sure she should take. Should she protect them both from the chaos of her life or learn a bravery that feels irresponsible?
As Kit fights to keep her life safe and manageable, she leans into her faith, clinging to the Bible verses God whispers to her heart. Clearly, he's up to something, but the healing she prays for isn't happening the way she wants.
Why is God silent on the prayer she needs most?

    Bren:

I don’t trust people, and for good reason. My parents kicked me out the second I turned eighteen, and my friends from high school or college all lost touch. No matter how close we get, how much they claim they love me, they always abandon me. The only person I can rely on is me, which is why I’ve built my own business from the ground up making bookish merch and accessories. So far, I’m hitting or exceeding all my goals and that’s all I need.

    Honey:

If someone asked my family to describe me, one of the first words that would come up is “reliable.” That’s me, Honey Holloway, the girl who will get it done with a smile on her face. It’s easy to grin and pretend I’m fine with my parents being unconcerned with things like taxes and invoices and the “boring” parts of running our family apiary and farm. I too would like nothing more than to hang out with the bees all day, but someone has to keep this place together and make sure my siblings have a future.

    Bren:

There is one person that I talk to though, and that’s Melliferal. We met online over a year ago and clicked right away over our shared love of books and fanfiction. I’m reluctant to share too much about myself, but she seems fine with that. Most of my ire is reserved for Honey Holloway, specifically. There’s just something about her that drives me to distraction. I’ve just never met someone who looked so much like they ate sunshine and rainbows for breakfast every morning. It’s bizarre and intriguing and irritating and arousing.

    Honey:

When I finally have a moment to myself, I talk to my online friend Bibliofile. She’s the only person who I feel like I can be honest with. Up to a point, though, because we don’t discuss any personal details. Even without knowing her real name, I’ve developed a raging crush on an internet stranger, and that’s on top of my IRL (hopeless) crush on Bren Hendrix. At least I know Bibliofile likes me, though. Bren so obviously doesn’t, but I’m not going to let that stop me. I’ve never seen someone who needs a friend more than Bren. She’s going to be mine, even if I have to bribe her with jars of hot honey that I made myself.

    One week.
    Private beach.
    Invisible girl.
    Jerk-faced bully.
What’s the worst that could happen?
Kaitlyn Parker has no problem being the invisible girl, which is why she finds herself hiding in various cabinets and closets all over her college campus. Despite her best efforts, she can’t escape the notice of Martin Sandeke—bad boy, jerkface bully, and the universe’s hottest, wealthiest, and most unobtainable bachelor—who also happens to be Kaitlyn’s chemistry lab partner.
Kaitlyn might be the only girl who isn’t interested in exploiting his stunning rower’s build, chiseled features, and family's billionaire fortune. Kaitlyn wants Martin for his brain, specifically to tabulate findings of trace elements in surface water.
When Kaitlyn saves Martin from a nefarious plot, Martin uses the opportunity to push Kaitlyn out of her comfort zone: spring break, one week, house parties, bathing suits, and suntan lotion. Can she overcome her aversion to being noticed? Will he be able grow beyond his self-centered nature? Or, despite their obvious chemistry, will Martin be the one to drive Kaitlyn into the science cabinet of obscurity for good?
'ATTRACTION' is book #1 in the Elements of Chemistry series; it is 45k words; and it ends with a cliffhanger.
