Sinopse

In "The Capsina," E. F. Benson masterfully weaves a narrative rich in character development and social observation, set in the idyllic yet complex milieu of Edwardian England. The story revolves around the enigmatic and vibrant figure of Capsina, whose unconventional nature challenges the rigid norms of society and invites readers to explore themes such as identity, individuality, and the clash between tradition and modernity. Benson's prose is both lyrical and incisive, utilizing a keen sense of irony and wit that highlights the tensions within social class dynamics and the evolving landscape of gender roles. This novel serves as a poignant commentary on a transformative era in British literature, striking a delicate balance between humor and pathos. E. F. Benson, a prolific writer of his time, was known for his keen insight into human nature and society. Born into a family of clerics, he was exposed to the intricacies of English life from an early age, which deeply informed his literary career. His experiences lived among the upper crust of society, combined with a sharp wit and a penchant for the eccentric, provided a rich backdrop for the creation of "The Capsina," symbolizing both personal and societal liberation. This novel is highly recommended for readers interested in exploring the nuances of early 20th-century British society through a vivid and character-driven narrative. Benson's unique perspective on the complexities of identity and societal constraints renders "The Capsina" not merely a story, but an enlightening exploration that resonates with modern themes of self-discovery and nonconformity.

The Magicians: A Knight In Time
    A Magicians Time-Twist Adventure
When Empress Matilda and her brother, Robert of Gloucester, are ripped from their crusading century into modern Melbourne, history itself comes under magical siege. Ancient oaths clash with futuristic mysticism as they encounter the enigmatic Magicians — Fred, Ana, Blake, and Mortimer — allies sworn to protect time from chaos. But old fears die hard, and not even a dragon usher, an electric warlock, or the King of Death himself can convince the Normans they’re among friends.
Can a knight forge a truce with fate, or will the future fall to myth and madness?
An epic clash of timelines, faith, legacy, and otherworldly truth, where the past must reckon with powers beyond belief. Gothic, witty, and utterly original.
The Earl, Empress Matilda, and King Stephen are the author's direct ancestors.

To distract Jodi from her grief, the two friends tell each other ghost stories as they explore the museum. They stop at the main display, a centuries-old pair of lotus slippers belonging to a woman whose toes were broken and bound during childhood. While reading the woman’s story, Jodi hears her daughter’s voice.

As Jodi desperately searches the garden, it becomes apparent that Ella isn’t the only ghost they’ve awakened. Something ancient with a slow, shuffling step lurks in the shadows…

"The Transition of Juan Romero" is a short story by American horror fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft, written on September 16, 1919, and first published in the 1944 Arkham House volume Marginalia.
Plot: The story involves a mine that uncovers a very deep chasm, too deep for any sounding lines to hit bottom. The night after the discovery of the abyss the narrator and one of the mine's workers, a Mexican called Juan Romero, venture inside the mine, drawn against their will by a mysterious rhythmical throbbing in the ground. Romero reaches the abyss first and is swallowed by it. The narrator peers over the edge, sees something - "but God, I dare not tell you what I saw!" and loses consciousness. That morning he and Romero are both found in their bunks, Romero dead. Other miners swear that neither of them left their cabin that night. The chasm has vanished as well.
