The stories of The Path of Most Resistance feature curious nonconformists who find themselves pushing back against strange and oppressive social norms, mavericks who transgress the boundaries of convention in their strive for freedom and authenticity. No matter if they’re in a Silicon Valley office, the far reaches of space, or dystopian futures where relationships are subjected to totalitarian control, the characters show unshakable conviction in a world plagued with uncertainty. Each story ushers you into a unique reality that unfolds step by step, leaving you with a disturbing new perception of the world. In “Blind Date,” two lovers chosen for each other by a hidden control system attempt to peel away the layers of their oppressive reality and peer into what they were not meant to see. In “Expressing,” a pick-up at an ordinary bar turns into a paranormal encounter. In “The Path of Most Resistance,” a hiring manager and a job candidate go all-in during an interview that will reshape their lives. In “Red Flagged,” a random passenger is accidentally exposed as a covert rebel fighting for freedom in a society that dictates what one is allowed to know. In “Miscalibrated,” an interstellar expedition runs into armed conflict with an alien civilization, in which their best chance of avoiding a nuclear war is discovering the underlying truth about the communication differences between humans and these aliens. In story after story, author Yoav Ilan displays remarkable creativity and intelligence, showing that sci-fi can be as artistic as literary fiction, and that things are never as they seem.

Mary Elizabeth Braddon was born in London on the 4th October 1835.
At age 5 her parents separated but her ambition to succeed was not daunted. After being privately educated she took to acting, and the minor roles she obtained where enough to support both her and her mother. This potential career waned as soon as she began writing and secured an income from it.
In 1860, she met John Maxwell, a publisher of periodicals, and moved in with him the following year. At the time Maxwell was already married with five children but his wife was confined to an Irish mental asylum. On her death they married and she had six children by him.
Braddon was prolific and wrote over 80 novels, perhaps the most famous is ‘Lady Audley's Secret’ (1862), which won her both sales and a fortune as a bestseller. She also wrote a number of historical fiction novels which again increased her reputation.
She was equally prolific as a short story writer, primarily supernatural and ghost stories, all of which continue to be anthologized to this day, such is the high regard they are kept in.
Braddon founded Belgravia magazine in 1866, its fare being serialised sensation novels, poems, travel narratives and biographies, along with essays on fashion, history and science, all lavishly illustrated. She also edited Temple Bar magazine.
Mary Elizabeth Braddon died on 4th February 1915 and is buried in Richmond Cemetery.

My name is Jack Pilton and I moved into one of those lovely old terraced houses that Cornwall is so famous for in a village called Little Trumpington. Low beamed ceilings and thick walls with stone stairs worn with thousands of shoes over hundreds of years. I'm not wealthy but I've enough for a comfortable lifestyle supported by the romantic novels I write for Amazon.
Soon after I arrived in the village I was asked if the local women’s group could use my lounge for their weekly card game and I was welcome to join in if I could play whist. The previous owner had been happy to let the group play in the modernised lounge that had been knocked through into the dining room and kitchen, so there was plenty of room. I didn’t see any reason not to let them play there.
I was very soon swept away with the game but more importantly the forfeits that the losers agreed to. The winners would spank the losers but as I was the only man in the group I eventually did all the spanking.
That was all eight months ago and since then spanking has become such a part of the women’s group that we had a spanking stall at the village fete a couple of weeks ago. After that, I proposed marriage to Mary who seemed to be the leader of the group and she accepted.
In this book, more women join the group and I have to spank them all. In addition, Samantha’s daughter Primrose is spanked three times and my neighbour is spanked as well. Finally, Mary and I get married and I spank all the ladies at the wedding naked which produces some wonderful wedding photos.

Although well-known for her novels of manners and social critique, such as The House of Mirth and the Pulitzer Prize–winning The Age of Innocence, Edith Wharton was also a master of the ghost story. Her ghostly characters appear in many different forms, haunting such places as a splendid English country estate, a lonely house on the coast of storm-tossed Brittany, and an isolated New England village. This collection includes eight of Wharton’s best ghost stories, published between 1904 and 1928: “The Lady’s Maid’s Bell,” “The Eyes,” “Afterward,” “Kerfol,” “The Triumph of Night,” “Miss Mary Pask,” “Bewitched,” and “Mr. Jones.”
