Sinopse

In "The Efficiency Expert," Edgar Rice Burroughs ventures into the complex world of business and personal dynamics during the early 20th century. With a narrative infused with wit and sharp social commentary, Burroughs presents the story of a man determined to revolutionize the workforce through productivity and efficiency, reflecting the burgeoning industrial age's ethos. Utilizing a combination of adventure and romance, the book illustrates the tension between individual ambition and the mechanical dehumanization of work, showcasing Burroughs' ability to meld genre fiction with keen insights into societal norms and economic progress. Edgar Rice Burroughs, best known for his creation of the iconic character Tarzan, wrote "The Efficiency Expert" in 1921, demonstrating his versatility beyond pulp adventure. Influenced by his experiences in various business ventures and his interest in contemporary industrial society, Burroughs critiques the often mechanistic approach to both labor and humanity. His keen observations provide a unique context to the narrative, as he juxtaposes personal fulfillment against the demands of the corporate landscape. This book is a thought-provoking read for anyone interested in the interplay of efficiency, human relationships, and early 20th-century industrial culture. Burroughs' engaging narrative style and astute social observations offer layers of meaning that resonate even today, making "The Efficiency Expert" a compelling study for scholars and general readers alike.

Hone your skills and strengthen your practice with this series of twenty-five fresh and provocative questions for reflection that challenge the conventional wisdom in the coaching profession.

Like any established profession, coaching is full of unexamined assumptions. These need to be regularly questioned and tested to keep the profession vital and valuable. Coaches need to engage in the same kind of scrutiny and self-examination that offers such powerful benefits to their clients.

In Positive Provocation, coaching thought leader Robert Biswas-Diener asks a series of twenty-five provocative and sometimes playful questions that take a fresh look at some of coaching's most cherished beliefs. What if coaches had agendas? Why are ethics so boring? What's so great about interrupting? Can we trust eureka moments? What if we used less empathy?

This is not an attack on the coaching profession-Biswas-Diener writes with a light, conversational, and often humorous touch. These are positive provocations, meant to stimulate your curiosity, engage you with the latest research, and invite you to see your practice with new eyes.

Biswas-Diener covers philosophies of coaching, communicating with clients, common coaching concepts, coaching interventions, and a big final provocation: should coaching be informed by science? This book will give you a richer understanding of the coaching process, make you more articulate about your own beliefs, and allow you to feel more engaged with the craft.

The word Upanishad (upa-ni-shad) consists of, "Upa" means "near;" "ni" means "down;" "shad" means "to sit." Thus, Upanishad is to sit down near the teacher to discuss, learn, practice, and experience. There are some 200 or more Upanishads. Some are lost and are only known about because of being referenced in other Upanishads. Most of the Upanishads were kept secret for centuries, only passed on to others orally in the form of Shloka (a category of verse line developed from the Vedic Anustubh meter).Taittiriya is a Sanskrit word that means "from Tittiri". The root of this name has been interpreted in two ways: "from Vedic sage Tittiri" or a collection of verses from mythical students who became Tittiris (birds, partridges) in order to gain knowledge. This Upanishad is divided into three sections called Vallis: Siksha (Pronunciation /Instruction) Valli , Ananda (bliss of Brahman) Valli , and Bhrigu (son of Varuna, the god of all water elements) Valli. The chronology of Taittriyaka Upanishad is unclear; it is ancient and generally placed around 1st half of 1st millennium BCE.The 11 principal Upanishads to which Sankara appeals in his great commentary on the Vedanta-Surtras are: Chandogya, Talavakara or Kena, Aitareya, Kaushitaki, Vajasaneyi or Isha, Katha, Mundaka, Taittirtiyaka or Taittiriya, Brihadaranyaka, Svetasvatara, and Prasna. They are also called the 11 classical Upanishads or the fundamental Upanishads of the Vedanta Philosophy. Apart from these, Maitrayana-Brahmana-Upanishad is also considered as an important Upanishad. The Upanishadic literature is not a religious scripture and is free from dogma and doctrines. It is not a part of any religion but is a philosophy for all times and for all. German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer, impressed by the Upanishads, called the texts "the production of the highest human wisdom". Summary by Jothi
