Sinopsis

Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) was an American writer, poet, author, editor, and literary critic who is best known for his poetry and short stories, particularly his tales of mystery and the macabre. He is widely regarded as a central figure of Romanticism and Gothic fiction in the United States and of American literature. Poe was one of the country's earliest practitioners of the short story, and is considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre, as well as a significant contributor to the emerging genre of science fiction. He is the first well-known American writer to earn a living through writing alone, resulting in a financially difficult life and career.
The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar is one of Edgar Allan Poe's most famous short horror stories. It's a story about a mesmerist who puts a man in a suspended hypnotic state at the moment of death. An example of a tale of suspense and horror, it is also to a certain degree a hoax, as it was published without claiming to be fictional, and many at the time of publication, in 1845, took it to be a factual account. Poe admitted it to be a work of pure fiction in letters to his correspondents.

A distinctly poetic and disturbingly elegant horror novel for fans of Midsommar and The Witch.Husband and wife Bohumil and Bohumila, together with their son, move from Prague to a remote village with the hopes of salvaging their marriage. In the searing summer heat, they try to fit in with the villagers, only to be met with hostile stares and evasive lies. Each night, the couple hears what they suspect to be a large animal wandering around their cottage—an impression that oddly corresponds to the mysterious flyers found at the local watering hole regarding a wolfen fairytale. As inexplicable coincidences begin piling up, it's clear something sinister is afoot. After a drunken night out, Bohumil and Bohumila come home to find the house empty: their son is gone. After three days of searching, they find the villagers in festive costumes gathered outside their cottage. Is it a bizarre game, or some perverse, folkloric ritual? Are Bohumil and Bohumila in danger? And what has happened to their son?A dark social tale that slides inexorably towards psychological horror, Playing Wolf is a modern ballad of human destiny and discovering the animal in each of us.

Step aboard the haunted decks of the Ocean King, once a proud Indiaman and now reduced to a coal-carrying collier. In W. Clark Russell’s chilling maritime tale, second mate Mr. Green recalls the ship’s fall from luxury to decay—and the ghostly presence said to stalk her rigging and forepeak. From whispered voices calling sailors by name, to phantom figures glimpsed aloft under the red moon, the voyage grows darker with every passing night. Blurring the line between superstition and ventriloquism, A Bewitched Ship captures both the grandeur of a vessel’s past and the eerie fate that clings to ships long at sea. A gripping sea ghost story from one of the Victorian era’s most celebrated nautical novelists.

This definitive anthology brings together all of William Hope Hodgson’s celebrated stories featuring the brilliant, if eccentric, investigator, Thomas Carnacki. Known for his keen intellect, inventive methods, and unshakable resolve, Carnacki faces some of the most chilling and enigmatic supernatural phenomena of his time.
Throughout these nine tales, Carnacki is called upon to confront strange forces that defy logic and reason. Armed with his trusty scientific tools, a deep understanding of the occult, and a fearless heart, he investigates everything from spectral hauntings and ghostly apparitions to malevolent spirits and unearthly forces lurking in the shadows.
The first six stories were collected in the 1913 anthology, “Carnacki, the Ghost-Finder”, with the latter three appearing in an expanded collection of the same name published in 1947.
