He’s given everything to the Army. The Army has taken everything from her. Can they possibly find everything in each other?
Career soldier Chad Whitlock doesn’t expect a victory in his life’s battles. After his wife divorced him during one of his deployments, the Army’s all he has left. But when a mysterious stranger sends packages and an inspirational note to his unit, Chad’s response enlists him in a new operation—friendship with Tessa. When a mission gone wrong brings him face to face with death, looking at Tessa’s picture is a reminder of the second chance at love he could have with her.
Physical therapist Tessa Richardson is more comfortable rehabilitating her patients than probing her wounded heart. Since her dad died in combat, sending packages to support the soldiers seems safe… until one writes her back. A year later, eager to meet Chad in person, she wasn’t ready for him to sweep her into an unexpected—and incredible—kiss at the airport. Now, how’s she supposed to train this charming soldier for a marathon while caught in a crossfire between her fears and hopes?
Even if Tessa could risk loving another emotionally unavailable man, Convincing Chad that she’s playing for keeps might be harder than wrestling a bear. With nightmares, childhood trauma and struggling to adjust to civilian life, Chad has a full plate and would rather not drag Tessa into his mess.
He’s fought for his country, but will he be brave enough to fight for her girl? And will she realize that love is worth surrendering her fears?

    Berlin, 1938
    It’s no longer safe here.
When the Jewish families of Berlin start disappearing in nightly raids, 21-year-old Jacob Kagan knows it’s only a matter of time before the trucks come for him. Along with his family and best friend, he flees the country he’s always called home to find shelter in a Dutch refugee camp. Before long, the Netherlands falls to the Nazi war machine — Jacob’s new home is transformed into a transit camp with weekly trains bound for the horrors of the Eastern concentration camps.
Handpicked by the cruel new SS regime to police the camp’s Jewish population, Jacob has the opportunity to save his parents and best friend from the dreaded transport lists — but at what cost?
Based on true events, Beyond the Tracks is a redemptive story of unconditional loyalty and a will to survive at impossible odds.

Wyatt Crawford is everything I’m not. Charming, fearless, and…experienced. He’s also hiding something from me.
When he first walks into my small bookstore, I find myself overwhelmed by my instant reaction to him, and more than a little intrigued. Then we run into each other again, and again. And each time leaves me a little breathless - in a good way for once in my life.
Wyatt is only in Dogwood Cove temporarily, so exploring these new feelings I’m having is a bad idea. But the more I’m around him, the more I find myself wondering if what my friends say about their, ahem, intimate relationships is in fact accurate.
Perhaps I was wrong to think my lackluster experiences are what I must settle for.
Except Wyatt is holding something back. I can see the broken pieces of him lurking beneath his tattooed, charismatic exterior.
We couldn’t be more different, yet he makes me feel as if I finally belong somewhere. With someone.
Until the truth of who he is, and all the scars he’s hiding, come to light.

John Charles Dent, the author of the following remarkable stories, was born in Kendal, Westmorland, England, in 1841. His parents emigrated to Canada shortly after that event, bringing with them, of course, the youth who was afterwards to become the Canadian author and historian. Mr. Dent received his primary education in Canadian schools, and afterwards studied law, becoming in due course a member of the Upper Canada Bar. He only practised for a few years, then returned to England to pursue a literary career, writing mostly for periodicals. After remaining in England for several years, Mr. Dent and his family moved to Boston, in America, for about two years. But he finally returned to Canada, accepting a journalistic position in Toronto. Mr. Dent proceeded to write 'The Canadian Portrait Gallery', which ran to four large volumes, 'The Last Forty Years: Canada since the Union of 1841', and a 'History of the Rebellion in Upper Canada'.This collected work of his short fiction, contributed by their author at considerable intervals to different periodicals, was published posthumously. The stories themselves are delightfully anchored in the physical geography of Upper Canada (or in the case of 'Gagtooth's Image', Illinois), and have a mystical and spooky air about them. (Summary by Pipesdreams)
