Sinopsis

Under Milk Wood is a radio drama written by Welsh poet and writer Dylan Thomas. It was first broadcast on the BBC in 1954, after Thomas's death in 1953. The play is set in the fictional Welsh seaside village of Llareggub (read backward, it spells "bugger all"), and it provides a portrait of the town's inhabitants as they go about their daily lives.

The play is known for its lyrical and poetic language, capturing the dreams, desires, and inner thoughts of the characters. Thomas narrates the play, providing a rich and vivid description of the various residents and their activities, both during the day and at night.

Dylan Thomas (1914–1953) was a Welsh poet and writer, best known for his vivid and highly imaginative poetry. Born in Swansea, Wales, Thomas showed an early interest in literature and began writing poems during his teenage years. His early exposure to the works of poets like Gerard Manley Hopkins and W.B. Yeats influenced his poetic style.

Dylan Thomas led a tumultuous and bohemian lifestyle, marked by heavy drinking and a reputation for being a charismatic and passionate performer during his poetry readings. He spent much of his career in London and the United States. Unfortunately, his life was cut short at the age of 39 when he died in New York City in 1953.

When he walked into my restaurant, I thought he was the hottest man I’d ever seen in person. And then he spoke. And I realized who he was. The world now knows him as John Brandt—the ridiculously wealthy, handsome, genius workaholic startup founder and tech entrepreneur. I will always think of him as the annoying geek who's my older brother’s best friend. Market research has told him that he needs a girlfriend for an important business trip and gala event. He says he doesn’t want to bring someone that he has to impress or make an effort with, so he thought of me and figured I could use a nice vacation from my life right about now. He is one cocky nerd. Even if he’s right. I need the money, and he can actually help me with my career, but I think he needs to be schooled in the art of treating a lady right. Lucky for him, I am just the woman to finally teach him. Turns out his total lack of social skills does not correspond to a lack of skills in the bedroom. At all. He even teaches me a few new tricks. Every time he opens his obnoxious mouth I can’t believe this guy’s for real. Every time he touches me, every time he reminds me of who I was before I started to lose myself in the big city, I can’t believe that what we have right now is fake. I’m afraid that by the end of the month either I will have punched him in the face or the last man on earth I ever thought I’d fall in love with will have broken my heart. Or both.

Our Mutual Friend, the last novel completed by Charles Dickens, has many plots, twists and turns, from the murky river Thames to the gold and crystal on the tables of ‘Society’. A tale of murder, treachery, jealousy and love, takes us first to a rowing boat on the Thames, where the Hexhams have found a body in the water and are bringing it to shore. We attend the Boffins, a poor naïve couple, who unexpectedly have just become wealthy, after their employer dies and names them in his will. Silas Wegg becomes their ‘literary man’ and John Rokesmith, a mysterious man, becomes their secretary. We meet the Veneerings, new to society, who hold elaborate dinner parties for ‘dear friends’ they’ve never met. Bella and Lizzie, each from different walks of life, find love from unexpected quarters. The Lammles, a society couple, become match makers for their own ulterior motives. Two ne’er do well lawyers, Mortimer Lightwood and Eugene Wrayburn, find themselves caught up in intrigue, and learn how dangerous their work can be. Riderhood, a devious individual, finds himself in a dark plot with school teacher Bradley Headstone. Betty Higden, a loyal elderly woman, whose independence and love are so inspiring, our hearts go out to her. Dickens weaves together some of his most colorful and oft times hilarious characters so cleverly, that even up to the end of the story, surprises are afoot. (Summary by Mil Nicholson)
