Sinopsis

Duncan’s curiosity has got him into a lot of tight spots – quite literally! As a teenager, Duncan really wanted to be an astronaut but took to the exploration of inner space instead. Only a dozen men might have stood on the moon but Duncan has squeezed into many places that no one has ever been before, and some places that no one is ever likely to go again (probably for a very good reason).

These memoirs recount the author’s misadventures during his thirty-year involvement with caving and cave diving beginning with student antics in the caves of the Mendip Hills to a hair raising escape from deep beneath an English stately home. Along the way we are treated to a rollercoaster of emotions – from the joys of discovering new caves to the sadness of losing close friends. Duncan tells his tales without holding back, often making light of quite serious situations: cave-ins, serious illness and an embarrassing incident with a tick. There are tears and laughter, often at the same time: who else would perform an animal impression with a suspected metatarsal fracture?

We dive beneath Welsh valleys, Yorkshire Dales and the Blue Ridge Mountains. There are shark attacks, unexploded bombs and secret nuclear research facilities. Technical concepts and jargon are explained clearly and concisely so the reader can follow Duncan into the depths. These stories are a treat for anyone interested in exploration, above or below ground, over or underwater. People often tell Duncan that he must be ‘mad’ to go cave diving – read this and judge for yourself…

NFL legends Archie and Payton Manning, with writer John Underwood, provide a compelling look at football from the perspectives of two generations of players.

“An honest, insightful autobiography of a father and son who both reached the pinnacle of professional football.” —Library Journal

The Mannings take a hard look at their careers and all of American football, dissecting the big-money madness, NFL race relations, the rituals of college recruiting bribery, and fans who no longer identify with pro sports’ insatiable cash fever. They discuss organizational sports; college vs. pro games; coaches, good and bad; and why the quarterback position is the most difficult one in all of sports.

It all began in the Mississippi Delta town of Drew, where Archie discovered football was his passion. Attending college at Ole Miss, Archie made All-America twice, leading him to be selected second in the NFL player draft, where he played for fourteen years, winning All-Pro and MVP honors. But he labored with the Saints, never winning a championship.

Peyton chose Tennessee to fulfill his college ball dreams. His teams won 39 of 44 games, and he became Tennessee's all-time leading passer, set 33 records, winding up third in NCAA history in career passing yards and fourth in touchdown passes. After graduation, he was selected first in the NFL draft by the Indianapolis Colts. Peyton was the only quarterback to take every snap in 1998, but his team had a dismal 3-13 and made the playoffs. Peyton was voted to be the AFC starting quarterback in the Pro Bowl.

Manning is a personal and inspiring story of a family, a tradition, and a legacy.

History is full of sensational financial frauds and scams. Enron was forced to declare bankruptcy after allegations of massive accounting fraud, wiping out $78 billion in stock market value. Bernie Madoff, the largest individual fraudster in history, built a $65 billion Ponzi scheme that ultimately resulted in his being sentenced to 150 years in prison. People from all walks of life have been scammed out of their money: French and British nobility looking to get rich quickly, farmers looking for a miracle cure for their health ailments, several professional athletes, and some of Hollywood's biggest stars. No one is immune from getting deceived when money is involved.
This compelling audio book explores specific instances of financial fraud as well as some of the most successful charlatans and hucksters of all-time. Sharing lessons that apply to business, money management, and investing, author Ben Carlson answers questions such as: Why do even the most intelligent among us get taken advantage of in financial scams? What make fraudsters successful? Why is it often harder to stay rich than to get rich? Each chapter examines different frauds, perpetrators, or victims of scams. These real-life stories include anecdotes about how these frauds were carried out and discussions of what can be learned from these events.

When her children left for college, Melissa Shultz was certain that she had prepared them well for their new lives—but her own life was a different matter entirely. Her house was empty, her purpose unclear. If her life was no longer dominated by the day-to-day demands of being "Mom," then who exactly was she? And how would she ever move forward?
From Mom to Me Again is the story of one woman's reinvention. Shultz's struggle with the empty nest and the transformation of her marriage, friendships, career, and ultimately herself, is part memoir and part self-help guide. Funny, poignant, and practical, this book tells Shultz's personal story and provides valuable advice for listeners preparing to send their children off into the world. She shows women that while they'll always be mothers, it's time for them to take center stage in their own lives once again.

Call me naïve, but when I was a girl—watching James Bond and devouring Harriet the Spy—all I wanted was to grow up to be a spy. Unlike most kids, I didn't lose my secret-agent aspirations. So as a bright-eyed, idealistic college grad, I sent my resume to the CIA.Getting in was a story in itself. I peed in more cups than you could imagine, and was nearly condemned as a sexual deviant by the staff psychologist. My roommates were getting freaked out by government investigators lurking around, asking questions about my past. Finally, the CIA was training me to crash cars into barriers at 60 mph. Jump out of airplanes with cargo attached to my body. Survive interrogation, travel in alias, lose a tail. One thing they didn't teach us was how to date a guy while lying to him about what you do for a living. That I had to figure out for myself. Then I was posted overseas. And that's when the real fun began.

Culture and Anarchy is a series of periodical essays by Matthew Arnold, first published in Cornhill Magazine 1867-68 and collected as a book in 1869. The preface was added in 1875. Arnold's famous piece of writing on culture established his High Victorian cultural agenda which remained dominant in debate from the 1860s until the 1950s. According to his view advanced in the book, "Culture [...] is a study of perfection". He further wrote that: "[Culture] seeks to do away with classes; to make the best that has been thought and known in the world current everywhere; to make all men live in an atmosphere of sweetness and light [...]". His often quoted phrase "[culture is] the best which has been thought and said" comes from the Preface to Culture and Anarchy: The whole scope of the essay is to recommend culture as the great help out of our present difficulties; culture being a pursuit of our total perfection by means of getting to know, on all the matters which most concern us, the best which has been thought and said in the world, and, through this knowledge, turning a stream of fresh and free thought upon our stock notions and habits, which we now follow staunchly but mechanically, vainly imagining that there is a virtue in following them staunchly which makes up for the mischief of following them mechanically. Bringing to life golf's founding father and son, Tommy's Honor is a stirring tribute to two legendary players and a vivid evocation of their colorful, rip-roaring times. The Morrises were towering figures in their day. Old Tom began life as a nobody—he was the son of a weaver and a maid. But he was born in St. Andrews, Scotland, the cradle of golf, and the game was in his blood. He became the Champion Golfer of Scotland. As "Keeper of the Green" at the town's ancient links, Tom deployed golf's first lawnmower and banished sheep from the fairways. Then Young Tommy's career took off. Handsome Tommy Morris was a more daring player than his father. Soon he surpassed Old Tom and dominated the game. But just as he reached his peak Tommy's life took a tragic turn, leading to his death at the age of twenty-four. That shock is at the heart of Tommy's Honor. It left Tom to pick up the pieces—to honor his son by keeping Tommy's memory alive.Tommy's Honor is both fascinating history and a moving personal saga. But this book isn't only for golfers. It's for every son who has fought to escape a father's shadow and for every father who has guided a son toward manhood, then found it hard to let him go.
