Sinopsis

Current-limiting fuses are widely used to protect the thyristors in dc drive systems. In the event of the commutation failure when regenerating (inverting), the fuses need to interrupt in loop supplied by the ac and dc voltages acting in series which is the most difficult case for protection by fuse.
In this paper, a detailed study of the complete interruption process has been investigated by modeling of arcing process of the fuse. The effect varying the motor time constant, supply impedance, number of fuses used to clear the fault and dc machine rating to the total response for fuses protecting against the regenerative circuit internal commutation fault has been studied. The model of 200A fuse is employed in this study and fuses in series with the semiconductor devices (F1) and fuses in ac line (F2) are both considered.

The bestselling cyberpunk author “has produced by far the most stylish report from the computer outlaw culture since Steven Levy’s Hackers” (Publishers Weekly).   Bruce Sterling delves into the world of high-tech crime and punishment in one of the first books to explore the cyberspace breaches that threaten national security. From the crash of AT&T’s long-distance switching system to corporate cyberattacks, he investigates government and law enforcement efforts to break the back of America’s electronic underground in the 1990s. In this modern classic, “Sterling makes the hackers—who live in the ether between terminals under noms de net such as VaxCat—as vivid as Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. His book goes a long way towards explaining the emerging digital world and its ethos” (Publishers Weekly).  This edition features a new preface by the author that analyzes the sobering increase in computer crime over the twenty-five years since The Hacker Crackdown was first published.   “Offbeat and brilliant.” —Booklist   “Thoroughly researched, this account of the government’s crackdown on the nebulous but growing computer-underground provides a thoughtful report on the laws and rights being defined on the virtual frontier of cyberspace. . . . An enjoyable, informative, and (as the first mainstream treatment of the subject) potentially important book . . . Sterling is a fine and knowledgeable guide to this strange new world.” —Kirkus Reviews   “A well-balanced look at this new group of civil libertarians. Written with humor and intelligence, this book is highly recommended.” —Library Journal

Reduced life expectancy, worsening health outcomes, health inequity, and declining health care options—these are now realities for most Americans. However, in a country of more than 325 million people, addressing everyone's issues is challenging. How can we effect beneficial change for everyone so we all can thrive? What is the great equalizer? In this book, Daniel E. Dawes argues that political determinants of health create the social drivers—including poor environmental conditions, inadequate transportation, unsafe neighborhoods, and lack of healthy food options—that affect all other dynamics of health. By understanding these determinants, their origins, and their impact on the equitable distribution of opportunities and resources, we will be better equipped to develop and implement actionable solutions to close the health gap.Dawes draws on his firsthand experience helping to shape major federal policies, including the Affordable Care Act, to describe the history of efforts to address the political determinants that have resulted in health inequities. Taking us further upstream to the underlying source of the causes of inequities, Dawes examines the political decisions that lead to our social conditions, makes the social determinants of health more accessible, and provides a playbook for how we can address them effectively.

At 5:12 a.m. on the morning of April 18, 1906, San Francisco was struck by one of the worst earthquakes in history, instantly killing hundreds. The ensuing fires that ravaged the city for days were responsible for the deaths of as many as 3,000 more. In all, 522 blocks and 28,188 buildings were leveled, and some 200,000 people dislocated. This watershed event in American history has never before been told with the richness of historical detail and insight that our foremost historian of fire, Dennis Smith, brings to it in San Francisco Is Burning. Smith cinematically recounts this terrible tragedy through the stories of the people who lived through those terrible days-from a valiant naval officer who helped save the city's piers and wharves to Eugene Schmitz, the crooked mayor, to the "debonair scoundrel" Abe Ruef, the most erudite city boss in American history. Throughout, Smith reveals many unknown details about the event, from the city's great vulnerability to fire-due to its corrupt and hasty building practices-to the widespread racism the quake unleashed and the atrocities committed by national guardsmen. Told with verve and a seasoned firefighter's knowledge, San Francisco Is Burning is the gripping and definitive account of one of the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

Just as a parent leaves a legacy to their child, a tree leaves a legacy to its surroundings. A deep and explorative companion piece to the Roger Deakin Award-winning The Draw of The Sea. Throughout history, trees have determined the tools we use, the boats we build, the stories we tell about the world and ourselves, the songs we sing, and some of our most important rituals. As such, our lives are intertwined with those of the trees and woodlands around us. In this journey deep into the woods, Wyl Menmuir travels the length and breadth of Britain and Ireland to meet the people who plant trees, the ecologists who study them, those who shape beautiful objects and tools from wood, and those who use them to help others. Wyl also explores how our relationship with trees is enduring, now and in the future – what we get out of spending time around trees, the ways in which our relationship with them has changed over time, and the ways in which our future is interconnected with theirs. Written in close collaboration with makers, crafters, bodgers, and woodsmen and women in order to better understand the woods they know so well, the joys and frustrations of working with a living material, and the stories of their craft and skills, The Heart of The Woods will delight anyone who enjoys walking among the trees, and anyone who, when lost, has found themselves in the woods.Chapters include: WOODLAND PLANTER: A woodland in becoming and an ancient yew grove on the border of North Wales and England RITUAL WEAVER: Willow coffin making in Cornwall WOODLORE GATHERER: Science among the trees at Wytham Woods, Oxfordshire HEARTWOOD CARVER: Among the bodgers in a field outside Cambridge BOAT BUILDER: A woodland community in the heart of Glasgow’s former docklands LANDSCAPE SHAPER: Re-wilding the Scottish Highlands and an organised trespass in Devon WISH WEARER: The clootie well at Munlochy on The Black Isle, Scottish Highlands, a family tree on Bodmin Moor, Cornwall, and the tree at Sycamore Gap, Northumbria FOREST BATHER: Swimming at Swallowship Pool, Devil’s Water, and Letah Woods Northumberland MYTH WALKER: Walks in the fictional woods at Wenlock Edge, Shropshire WAY FOLLOWER: Traditional carpentry in Takayama, Japan FIRE LIGHTER: The stories we find among the flames and embers, Ennistymon, Ireland  SOUND CREATOR: A pub on Ireland’s west coast and a guitar-builder in North Wales  APPLE WAILER: Wassailing in Cornwall TREE WORSHIPPER: An ancient yew grove in North Wales

Have you ever stopped to wonder how life has been for the people who have been on the frontline of fighting Covid-19 – their experiences, how they are treated, how they are able to cope with the extreme pressure, seeing death everywhere, and risking being infected all the time?
And have you wondered why nurses would be threatening to strike and others even strike in the middle of the pandemic to get a full glimpse of what has really been going on but has gone unreported?
If you’ve answered YES, keep reading...You Are About to Step into a Frontline Nurse’s World For A Moment, To Get A Glimpse Of Just How This Pandemic Has Been Brutal For The Frontline Nurses All Over The World!
The pandemic has been brutal for nurses and other frontline workers. With nurses always dealing with Covid-19 cases every single day, seeing patients in thousands develop moderate to severe symptoms and others dying of Covid-19 related complications, you can agree with me that nurses have really seen the pandemic from a completely different perspective compared to everyone else.
And this perspective hasn’t been one that anyone ‘outside’ could ever imagine.
From extremely long working hours, the scare of getting infected with Covid-19 to the trauma of seeing disease, sickness, and death everywhere to mistreatment by company representatives to being not welcomed by locals, to someone on the outside, the details in this book will literally make you wonder whether what’s in this book is really true.
Written by one of the many traveling nurses who has been to several states and seen it all, from New York to the Mexican border to Illinois and Texas, her account of her experiences in her line of duty will leave you with a new perspective about so many things about the pandemic.
