Sinopsis

For more than 25 years, Dr. Bertrand Martin has been teaching meditation for combating stress and achieving overall better quality of life. In his new book, he talks about his techniques and how to use them to achieve "Mental Silence".

"Today's society suffers from stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, negativity and much more, leading to unhappiness, diseases, consumption of medicaments and drugs," Dr Martin says. "Regular practice of Mental Silence Meditation can prevent and cure many ailments. It also treads the path of full realization of one's potential."

Although stress is a normal part of life, too much of it can have debilitating consequences.

Dr Martin, a psychiatrist and ayurvedic physician, has been teaching meditation to his patients since 1990. This has helped about 95 percent of his patients experience mental silence, a feeling he describes as "a totally peacefully state of consciousness in which thinking process stops and a deep physical and mental relaxation is experienced." He shares his techniques for achieving mental silence in his eponymous book. It is specially written for people living busy, fast-paced lives who
want to meditate efficiently and achieve fast results. The steps shared are practical, measurable, clearly explained, and easy to practice.

Dr. Bertrand Piccard, Psychiatrist and explorer recommends the method: "If you have picked up this book, it probably means that the search for pioneering solutions to further improve your quality of life is a matter that excites your curiosity. Not all of us can be discoverers of the universe, but we can go a long way just by exploring our own selves. Our mind is the richest, most valuable and most efficient resource that is permanently available to each of us. Dr Martin is proposing a conscious and serene method to shape up our mental, spiritual and physical capacities. The method is simple, fast and effective. Let yourself go and you may land way beyond your usual certainties."

BPD affects a significant percentage of the population. It is a disorder of relationships, one whose symptoms occur most in interpersonal contexts—and thus impact any number of interpersonal connections in life. When people have BPD, they may struggle to manage their emotions on a daily basis, and have to deal with fears of abandonment, anger issues, self-injury, and even suicidality—all of which can lead to even more instability in relationships. In Beyond Borderline, two internationally acclaimed experts on BPD—including Perry Hoffman, cofounder and president of the National Education Alliance for Borderline Personality Disorder (NEA-BPD)—team up to present a rare glimpse into the lives and recovery of people affected by BPD. This powerful compilation of stories reveals the deeply personal, firsthand perspectives of people who suffer with BPD, explores the numerous ways in which this disorder has affected their lives, and outlines the most debilitating and misunderstood symptoms of BPD (the most tragic being suicide). Beyond Borderline delves into the many ways the disorder can present—as well as the many paths to recovery—using evidence-based tools from dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness meditation, mentalization-based therapy (MBT), and more.

Meat Me Halfway - How Changing...

We know that eating animals is bad for the planet and bad for our health, and yet we do it anyway. Ask anyone in the plant-based movement and the solution seems obvious: stop eating meat. But, for many people, that stark solution is neither appealing nor practical. In Meat Me Halfway, author and founder of the reducetarian movement Brian Kateman puts forth a realistic and balanced goal: mindfully reduce your meat consumption. It might seem strange for a leader of the plant-based movement to say, but meat is here to stay. The question is not how to ween society off meat but how to make meat more healthy, more humane, and more sustainable. In this book, Kateman answers the question that has plagued vegans for years: why are we so resistant to changing the way we eat, and what can we do about it? Exploring our historical relationship with meat, from the domestication of animals to the early industrialization of meatpacking, to the advent of the one-stop grocery store, the science of taste, and the laws that impact our access to food, Meat Me Halfway reveals how humans have evolved as meat-eaters. Featuring interviews with pioneers in the science of meat alternatives, investigations into new types of farming designed to lessen environmental impact, and innovations in ethical and sustainable agriculture, this down-to-earth book shows that we all can change the way we create and consume food.
