An eldritch historical fantasy of midwifery, monstrosity, and the rending of the world, for fans of The Essex Serpent and The Death of Jane Lawrence.

In seventeenth-century London, unnatural babies are being born with eyes made for the dark and webbed digits suited to the sea.

Sarah Davis is intimately familiar with such strangeness. Having fled her old life under suspicious circumstances to start over in the city as a midwife’s apprentice, she’d hoped to leave such uncanniness far behind. But with each new unnatural birth she attends, the greater the fear in London grows of the Devil’s work.

When the wealthy Lady Faith hires her to see her through her pregnancy, Sarah quickly becomes a favorite of her husband, the famous architect Sir Christopher Wren, whose interest in the uncanny borders on obsession. Sarah soon finds herself caught in a web of magic and intrigue created by those who want to use her power for themselves, and whose pursuits threaten to unmake the earth itself.

When the Otis family—brash, modern Americans—move into the ancient and supposedly haunted Canterville Chase, they’re met not with terror, but with sarcasm, oil, and detergent. Poor Sir Simon, the resident ghost, has frightened generations of Cantervilles into madness and despair, but now finds himself humiliated and ignored by skeptical newcomers who care more about removing bloodstains than respecting the supernatural.
Witty, satirical, and surprisingly moving, The Canterville Ghost blends comedy and ghost story into a timeless tale about redemption, forgiveness, and the gentle power of compassion. At its heart is the unlikely friendship between Sir Simon and young Virginia Otis, whose kindness becomes the key to unlocking centuries of sorrow.
This new narration by Simon Relph captures both the dry humor and the emotional depth of Oscar Wilde’s beloved story.

Jude is dragged out of Alt-Country obscurity, out of the dismal loop of booze and sadness baths and the boundless, insatiable loneliness, to scrub up and fly to Australia for a last, desperate comeback tour. Hardly worth getting out of bed for—and he wouldn’t, if it weren’t for Coreen.
But Coreen is dead. And, worse than that, she’s married. Jude’s swan-song tour becomes instead a terminal descent, into the sordid past, into the meaning hidden in forgotten songs, into Coreen’s madness diary, there to waken something far worse than her ghost.
