Synopsis

"Sexual Archetypes" explores the captivating world of recurring characters in erotic literature and art, revealing their profound psychological impact. It delves into figures like the Dominant, Submissive, Innocent, and Seductress, demonstrating how these archetypes mirror our unconscious desires and societal power dynamics. By tracing their evolution from ancient myths to modern pornography, the book highlights how shifting social attitudes shape these characters' portrayals. One intriguing fact is how these archetypes, often dismissed as clichés, are deeply embedded in the human psyche, representing fundamental aspects of our emotional and sexual experiences. This unique study uses Jungian psychology to analyze erotic texts, offering a fresh perspective on underlying psychological dynamics. The book progresses by first introducing key concepts from psychology, literary analysis, and gender studies, then examining specific sexual archetypes, and finally exploring their practical implications on relationships and sexual identity. "Sexual Archetypes" aims to help readers understand their own desires, navigate relationships, and critically engage with erotic media.

In the shadow of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, two experts show us how and why global populism has taken root and what it will take to turn the tide

From Trumpian America to Putin’s nationalist Russia, and from Poland to the Philippines, rapid change and rising inequality have fueled a retreat into tribalist nationalism fed by a fear of being left behind. Populist leaders reach into this fear, using it as a lever to power with empty promises of looking out for the little person and promising a return to national greatness. This is happening in countries spread across the globe and the political spectrum, arising in the right and the left alike, and recently brought into harsh relief against Putin’s brutal invasion of Ukraine. So why are we so susceptible to this pernicious political style at this moment? How did we get here? And more importantly, will we get back to more even-handed governments?

Filled with original research, political scientists Drache and Froese have written a chilling, compelling analysis of the rise of populism, and reveal what it will take to douse the flames. This is an essential read for anyone concerned about the encroachments on freedom and the rule of law around the world.

There are doers and there are preachers. The people who were executing orders or abusing people in World War 2 wouldn’t have been able to commit any atrocities if the country hadn’t warmed up to an inhumane narrative. That’s where propaganda came in. Propaganda has long been part of various countries and societies to make the population believe something, and to find culprits, create feelings of animosity, and glorify local leaders or military campaigns. In World War 2, it was obviously used to promote the supposed inferiority of the Jewish race and convince a big part of the German population that they were better off dead. Goebbels was one of those brainwashers who advocated that narrative with propaganda material in the media.
From 1933 through 1945, Paul Joseph Goebbels functioned as the Gauleiter (district head) of Berlin, the Nazi Party's senior propagandist, and the Reich Minister of Propaganda. He was another one of Adolf Hitler's closest and most dedicated acolytes, acknowledged for his public speaking capabilities and his extreme antisemitism, which he often uttered. He promoted for gradually even worse discrimination, including but not limited to the Holocaust's killing of Jews.
What led to all this? How did he become so good at it? Why was he so fanatic? And what did he do that led to the terrible acts during the Holocaust others committed against the Jews in Europe?
Read about it or listen to an audio version of this book to find out what made Joseph Goebbels gruesomely unique in his lies.

The Gaelic myths and legends that are prevalent in the British Isles are the very fabric of the Irish, Scottish, Manx, and Cornish people today. They are colorful, steeped in heroic deeds and adventurous demigods, rooted in times long gone, when Europe as we know it was an altogether different land. More precisely, the Irish Mythology and its unique Ulster Cycle are an endless source of inspiration, and are a crystal clear glimpse into the heart and soul of the Irish People. One of the more enigmatic figures from this cycle is Scáthach, a legendary Scottish warrior woman, responsible for many things - but chiefly for teaching warrior skills to the young hero Cú Chulainn. “A Scottish woman in Irish myths?” you might be wondering right now. But you read that well: Scáthach is the clear connection between two nations of the same origins - Ireland and Scotland. This mythical figure is the connection between brotherly folk, a root that entwines their shared Gaelic culture. But even better, the topic of Scáthach is a great starting point for scholars and historians - from here we can conduct extensive research that would uncover deeper layers of the enigmatic Ulster Cycle and the ancient connection between Ireland and Scotland. From there, we can glimpse into the turbulent fate of the Picts, the unique subject of the Gaels, the Scoti, and the Kingdom of Dál Riata. And last but not least - we can find parallels between the legend of Scáthach and the older, Indo-European myths and beliefs that clearly tell us of the ancient origins of the Gaelic folk.

In the vein of Quiet and The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth comes this illuminating look at what it means to be awkward—and how the same traits that make us socially anxious and cause embarrassing faux pas also provide the seeds for extraordinary success.
As humans, we all need to belong. While modern social life can make even the best of us feel gawky, for roughly one in five of us, navigating its challenges is consistently overwhelming—an ongoing maze without an exit. Often unable to grasp social cues or master the skills and grace necessary for smooth interaction, we feel out of sync with those around us. Though individuals may recognize their awkward disposition, they rarely understand why they are like this—which makes it hard for them to know how to adjust their behavior.
Psychologist and interpersonal relationship expert Ty Tashiro knows what it’s like to be awkward. Growing up, he could do math in his head and memorize the earned run averages of every National League starting pitcher. But he couldn’t pour liquids without spilling and habitually forgot to bring his glove to Little League games. In Awkward, he unpacks decades of research into human intelligence, neuroscience, personality, and sociology to help us better understand this widely shared trait. He explores its nature vs. nurture origins, considers how the awkward view the world, and delivers a welcome counterintuitive message: the same characteristics that make people socially clumsy can be harnessed to produce remarkable achievements.
Interweaving the latest research with personal tales and real world examples, Awkward offers reassurance and provides valuable insights into how we can embrace our personal quirks and unique talents to harness our awesome potential—and more comfortably navigate our complex world.
