Sinopsis

England, 1685. In the wake of King Charles II’s death, the crown passes to his Catholic brother, James, despite Protestant unrest. Hal Bartholomew, envoy with ties to both court and country, is dispatched to Holland to dissuade the exiled Duke of Monmouth - Charles’s illegitimate son - from rebellion.

But Monmouth’s plans are already in motion. Wounded and on the run after the disastrous battle at Sedgemoor, Hal finds an unlikely sanctuary with Penny Rossi: the childhood friend who has always loved him. For Hal, a man who never believed in love, Penny’s devotion begins to reveal what he never thought he needed.

Their escape to Florence offers a fragile peace, but dangers from the past cast a long shadow. As letters from home carry grim news and long-buried secrets resurface, Hal and Penny must face the cost of loyalty.

A sweeping tale of rebellion, redemption and love, SON OF THE MORNING is the fourth book in Dodie Bishop's Silence And Shadows series of historical novels.

Some properties are too hot to handle . . .

Carpenter Whitney Whitaker and her cousin Buck are hot for a historical property that has just come on the market—a fire station in Nashville's Germantown neighborhood that was built nearly a century ago.

The cousins have just begun the interior demolition work at the fire station when Joanna Hartzell, who lives in a townhouse around the corner, comes by with a plea for help. Joanna owns the right half of her building, which she proudly maintains in perfect condition, while the left side falls into disrepair: the seven adult children who inherited it years ago refuse to lift a finger on repairs. Never one to turn down a challenge, Whitney and Buck manage to acquire the rundown townhouse—though it turns out Joanna is only one of the many neighbors interested in buying the property once they've worked their magic.

Then Joanna shows up at the fire station confused and rambling, then collapses, never to recover. Alarm bells go off for Whitney: she suspects something—and someone—evil could be the real cause. Can she and Collin put the clues together and smoke out a killer?

In the turbulent aftermath of President John F. Kennedy's assassination on November 22, 1963, a maelstrom of theories and speculations emerged to unravel the enigma surrounding the tragic event. Amidst the cacophony of voices, Mark Lane emerged as a distinct figure, a staunch advocate for a meticulous investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder and, more importantly, the accused assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald.

Mark Lane, an attorney by profession, stepped into the spotlight with his fervent belief that the official narrative of Oswald acting alone in assassinating President Kennedy was not only flawed but perhaps deliberately misleading. Lane embarked on a relentless quest for truth, armed with skepticism and an unwavering commitment to uncovering the intricacies of the case. In his investigation, Lane meticulously dissected the evidence presented by the Warren Commission, the body tasked with examining the assassination. He scrutinized witness testimonies, ballistic reports, and the timeline of events leading up to that fateful day in Dallas. Lane's scrutiny revealed discrepancies and inconsistencies that fueled his suspicions and raised questions about the veracity of the official narrative.
One of Lane's primary contentions revolved around the "magic bullet" theory, a cornerstone of the Warren Commission's findings. He argued that the trajectory of the alleged single bullet, which purportedly caused multiple wounds to both President Kennedy and Texas Governor John Connally, was implausible. Lane's dissent echoed the sentiments of many skeptics who found it difficult to accept the official explanation of a lone gunman.
