Sinopse

Jack Lynch is one of the most important and perhaps most underrated Irish political leaders of the twentieth century. A sportsman who won six All-Ireland medals in a row with Cork, he was also a civil servant and a barrister before being elected to Dáil Éireann in 1948. During his thirty-one years as a parliamentarian, he held the ministries of Education, Industry and Commerce, and Finance before succeeding Seán Lemass as Taoiseach in 1966. Lynch held office during the critical years of the late 1960s and early 1970s when Northern Ireland disintegrated and civil unrest swept through Belfast, Derry and other towns. This precipitated one of the worst crises in the history of the Irish state. Jack Lynch upheld the parliamentary democratic tradition at great personal and political cost, even to the point of fracturing the unity of his government and his party. If you want to know what happened during those terrible years, read this book.

In 1991, as Linda Alice Dewey walked through an abandoned cemetery, she and a companion felt a presence. She returned to that graveyard over the next couple of years, hoping to reach out to that poor being, offering the words:"Whoever is here…my heart is with you.”Little did Linda know that those words would begin her relationship with Aaron Burke, a man who had died nearly 70 years earlier. Aaron followed Linda home that day from the graveyard. As she opened herself to this ghost she learned that he was stuck in a state of limbo, unable to cross over.Aaron had been kidnapped by his father at age four and taken from Ireland to America where he was put to work. Hardened and embittered from his childhood, he did manage to find happiness, only to have it all slip away. Shortly after witnessing his own funeral, Aaron met other ghosts waiting for the time they could finally leave this state of limbo. Yet for decades he could only watch as the people he knew both in life and death crossed over, leaving him behind.Working together to find the closure Aaron needed, he and Linda became friends along the journey. Years after that first meeting and his subsequent crossing, Aaron returned to share the full story of his life--and afterlife--with Linda. This true ghost story gives hope and inspiration to all of us. In this early work from Fyodor Dostoevsky, the role and domain of the anti-hero is explored and exposed.  In his self-appointed removal from society, the narrator attempts to dissect the complicated rules, both spoken and unspoken, of human interactions as well as the driving force and reason behind individual morality and universal truths.  He descends into a chaos of contradictions as he attempts to prove his own superiority and understanding of morality while simultaneously revealing his intense self-loathing and hatred for society as a whole.  While describing this distaste for the society he has removed himself from, it is also clear that he obsesses over and longs to rejoin this culture he has ruined for himself.  This work is a detailed and intellectual exploration of free will vs. determinism, moral ambiguity, existentialism, and a complicated but honest assessment of one’s own soul.  To overcome truth and ascend humanity, Dostoevsky’s narrator must face an attempt to rationalize the endless contradictions of life, self, and society.
