Sinossi

"Unveiling Jesus in the Old Testament: The Main Stories Explained with Bible Insights" is a comprehensive exploration of the Old Testament, revealing how each story, prophecy, and law foreshadows the coming of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who is central to Christian salvation. The book meticulously examines the main narratives found within the Torah—Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy—highlighting the presence and significance of Jesus within these foundational texts. It extends this analysis to the concluding books of the Old Testament, including Isaiah, Jeremiah, Habakkuk, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi, drawing connections between the ancient texts and the life and mission of Jesus.
Furthermore, the book delves into texts not traditionally found in the New International Version of the Old Testament, such as Tobit, Wisdom, Sirach, Baruch, and 1 & 2 Maccabees. In these writings, the authors uncover further instances where Jesus is symbolized and his coming prophesied. Central to the book's thesis is the portrayal of Jesus as the true Ark of the Covenant, represented by the Mercy Seat where the Levitical High Priest would sprinkle blood for the atonement of the Israelites' sins. This act is seen as a precursor to the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus, whose crucifixion and resurrection provide the means for humanity's redemption and offer a path to eternal salvation.
The authors argue that these Old Testament stories are not mere historical accounts but are imbued with deeper meaning, each pointing to Jesus as the fulfillment of God's promise of salvation. While the book does not claim to cover every story within the Old Testament, it focuses on the principal narratives that demonstrate how Jesus is woven into the fabric of the Hebrew scriptures. The authors suggest that to fully appreciate the depth and breadth of Jesus' representation in the Old Testament, one should read their work in conjunction with the New International Version of the Old Testament, allowing for a richer understanding of the Bible's continuity and the central role of Jesus within it. This summary, while not exhaustive, provides a glimpse into the book's intent to unveil the presence of Jesus Christ throughout the Old Testament's main stories, offering insights that affirm his identity as the true Beloved Son of God and the cornerstone of the Christian faith.

The only way to change culture is to create culture.

Most of the time, we just consume or copy culture. But that is not enough. We must also do more than condemn or critique it. The only way to change it is to create it.

For too long, Christians have had an insufficient view of culture and have waged misguided "culture wars." But Andy Crouch says we must reclaim the cultural mandate to be the creative cultivators God designed us to be. Culture is what we make of the world, both in making cultural artifacts as well as in making sense of the world around us.

In this expanded edition of his award-winning book Crouch unpacks the complexities of how culture works, the dynamics of cultural change, and tools for cultivating culture. Keen biblical exposition demonstrates that creating culture is central to the whole scriptural narrative, the ministry of Jesus, and the call to the church. With a conversation between Crouch and Tish Harrison Warren as the new afterword, this expanded edition addresses the current landscape and forges a way for the future of culture making. Enter into it with guided questions for reflection and discussion for a deeper experience.

What Was In It For Jesus

The thoughts about what is in “it” for Jesus came to me when this verse was read during a worship service in my local fellowship.
I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance (Ephesians 1:18).
I found it amazing to think that believers, his holy people, could be his rich and glorious inheritance.
Probably like most other Jesus followers, my focus has always been on what is in it for me. But what was in it for Jesus? "It" refers to His incarnation and sacrificial death. "It" refers to all those benefits that I think about. I have some knowledge of what I have gained by becoming a child of God and a Jesus follower, but what has Jesus gained by having me be one of His children? We know He has many children. What has Jesus gained by having many children? Really, what is in it for Him?
In this book, I have explored many illustrations, examples, and metaphors that are given in Scripture that give insight into the relationship between the Jesus follower and Jesus. This different perspective of looking at what Jesus had to gain actually magnifies what Jesus followers gain in their relationship with Jesus.
Here are a few examples detailed in the book: Creator-created, Father-child of God, King-subjects, head-body (church), leader-follower, and others.

Why should the Psalms be read like a book, from beginning to end, instead of cherry picking Psalms we like? What are the overall themes of the five sections in Psalms, and how do they build toward a message of great hope? What do the Psalms—even the ones about the Israelites and the ones that invoke curses—mean for Christians today? How is Psalms one of the most important books for Christians living in twenty-first-century society? Find out all this and more inside this book on the Psalms by Scott Aniol!
    C. H. Spurgeon once bemoaned, “It is to be feared that the Psalms are by no means so prized as in earlier ages of the church.”
It is no secret that among evangelicals today the psalms are mostly ignored in corporate worship. This despite the fact that the Psalter is the only book whose contents are singled out by Paul for us to minister to one another in gathered church worship (Col 3:16, Eph 5:19). Numerous factors contribute to the decline of psalm singing among Christians, but one central reason for contemporary neglect of the Psalter may be that most Christians today do not understand this God-inspired collection of songs.
In Musing on God’s Music, Scott Aniol explores two central ideas that can help Christians recover the importance of psalm singing today: the deliberate canonical organization of the Psalter and the purpose and power of poetry. Aniol provides an important corrective that will remedy modern deficiency among contemporary psalm usage by explaining that God has given us the psalms, not merely to find a mood that fits our present state of being, but rather, God has given us the psalms to form us.

In Earth Witch: Finding Magic in the Land, animist, witch, and herbalist Britton Boyd invites you to seek out the deep and mysterious connections with the earth that lie at the ancestral roots of witchcraft. She describes the path of the earth witch not as a linear journey of upward growth, but rather as a cyclical one that ebbs and flows with the forces of nature that reflect the world around us—a path utterly different from the spiritual materialism that has crept into the witchcraft often found in today's capitalist culture.

Drawing on her own experience hiking the entirety of the Pacific Crest Trail, a 2660-mile trek that stretches from Mexico to the Canadian border, Boyd reminds listeners that witchcraft has always been based in the energy of the land, and that you can find all you need to practice this magic right beneath your feet.

This book provides those new to witchcraft with foundational practices on which to build an organic spirituality rooted in the natural world, and challenges seasoned witches to renew the ancient relationship with the earth that lies at the heart of their craft. Packed with stories, spells, and rituals, Boyd encourages all of us to live in service to the planet we call home. Will you heed the call?
