Sinopse

On the Trail of Bonnie Prince Charlie is the story of the Young Pretender. Born in Italy, grandson of James VII, at a time when the German house of Hanover was on the throne, his father was regarded by many as the rightful king. Bonnie Prince Charlie's campaign to retake the throne in his father's name changed the fate of Scotland.

The Jacobite movement was responsible for the '45 Uprising, one of the most decisive times in Scottish history. The suffering following the battle of Culloden in 1746 still evokes emotion.
Less well known of is his return to London in 1750 incognito. It was there he converted to Protestantism. He was often unwelcome in Europe after the failure of the uprising and came to hate any mention of Scotland and his lost chance.
In this book, follow the route taken by Charles' forces on their doomed march and discover the story behind the places and landscapes of his life.

    Camel from Kyzylkum: A Memoir
What does it take to leave everything behind in search of freedom?
Born in Ukraine and later working in the Kyzylkum Desert of Uzbekistan, Lara Gelya spent the first half of her life behind the Iron Curtain. In 1989, at the age of thirty-nine, she fled the crumbling Soviet Union as a stateless refugee — carrying little more than hope. Her journey took her across Austria and Italy before she finally reached the United States, where she began the long and difficult process of rebuilding her life.
With honesty and vivid detail, Lara shares her experiences of growing up under Soviet rule, navigating cultural dislocation, and finding strength in the face of uncertainty. Camel from Kyzylkum is more than a memoir of immigration — it is a story of resilience, courage, and the universal search for freedom and belonging.
Perfect for listeners of historical memoirs, refugee stories, and anyone who values the enduring power of the human spirit.

Bestselling author Loren W. Christensen served as a Military Policeman in Saigon, Vietnam, "the most dangerous city in the world," as it was called at the time. Shortly after returning home, he joined the Portland Police Bureau in Oregon, serving for twenty-five years. As a street cop, there were times he was dispatched to dead body calls so frequently that other officers teasingly called him the "Death Car."

It didn't help that the morgue was in his beat, which meant he and his partner were often called to identify freshly brought in corpses without identification.

Dead Body Calls tells of some of his experiences with the victims of suicide, homicide, fatal accidents, and natural deaths that crossed his path. Loren shows the effects of the deaths on family and friends at the scenes and the eventual toll on him and other officers.

Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton was an Anglo-Irish polar explorer whose remarkable journeys cemented his place among the most important figures of the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration. Shackleton's story is one of daring, leadership, and resilience, traits that made him a legendary figure in the annals of exploration.
Born in Kilkea, County Kildare, Ireland, on February 15, 1874, Shackleton moved to Sydenham, south London, at the age of ten with his Anglo-Irish family. His early life was marked by a sense of adventure that would shape his future endeavors. Shackleton's first significant exposure to the polar regions came in 1901 when he joined Captain Robert Falcon Scott's Discovery expedition as a third officer. Although Shackleton’s time on the expedition was cut short due to health concerns, he had already proven his determination by marching to a new southern record of latitude 82°S, alongside Scott and Edward Adrian Wilson. Despite being sent home early, Shackleton had tasted the allure of the polar regions and was eager for more.
The opportunity came in 1907 when Shackleton led the Nimrod expedition to Antarctica. During this journey, he and three companions ventured farther south than any explorer before them, reaching 88°S, just 97 geographical miles from the South Pole. This achievement was monumental, representing the greatest advancement toward the pole at the time. In addition to their groundbreaking southern march, the team also made history by summiting Mount Erebus, Antarctica’s most active volcano. Shackleton returned a hero and was knighted by King Edward VII for his daring exploits.

In 1967, producer George Schlatter pitched an idea for a quirky new television show: one inspired by the hippie counterculture, which would take the idea of sit-ins, love-ins, and be-ins, and manifest that politicized, sexualized, consciousness-raising energy into pure comedy. Much to the surprise of NBC executives, Laugh-In soon became the #1 show on American TV, and the careers of beloved stars like Lily Tomlin and Goldie Hawn were born.

Still Laughing features never-before-told stories from the creation of one of the most groundbreaking shows in television history. It also recounts the coming-of-age of one of Hollywood's most iconic producers, from his early nightclub days rubbing elbows with mob figures like Mickey Cohen and John Stompanato, to his influential friendships with Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra, for whom George was asked to deliver a eulogy at his funeral decades later.

An inside look at Hollywood in the wake of the cultural upheaval of the '60s and '70s, Still Laughing demonstrates the crucial, deeply creative role a working producer plays in bringing a show (and its stars) to life. With spit-fire humor, tireless wit, and keen perception, Still Laughing tells of the rise of some of comedy's greatest talents, and reveals the actual people cloistered inside larger-than-life celebrity.

“I Didn’t Ask For Your Life Story” - Well, Here It Is Anyway.
‘You can’t rip velcro quietly' is a compendium of “Sam Stories”, following my adventures from ages 18-30. These were the formative adult years where I began to forge my own path. I’d experienced great triumphs, success and no shortage of laughter, mostly at my expense - however I was becoming increasingly anxious, indecisive and lost. I needed to find out why.
As an aspiring writer and filmmaker, I thought perhaps if I could attempt to shape my character arc thus far, I'd see how I became who I am, and harness lessons of the past to guide my future. I had to explore my own ‘Heroes Journey’ to work out how to write the next chapters in my life. I found not only myself in this process, but a broader message and theme, perhaps applicable to all. Therefore, I decided to release this to the world.

"The Confessions of Saint Augustine" is an autobiographical work by St. Augustine of Hippo, consisting of 13 books written between AD 397 and 400. This seminal work outlines his sinful youth and his conversion to Christianity. It is widely seen as the first Western autobiography ever written, and it provides deep philosophical and theological insights into faith and morality. Augustine explores the nature of time, memory, and the inner self, and the narrative is as much a chronicle of his spiritual journey as it is a theological treatise.
