Sinopse

Ralph Reed should be in prison.
Between 2001 and 2004, Ralph Eugene Reed, Jr., the former Executive Director of the Christian Coalition, and his two close confederates, Jack Abramoff and Michael Scanlon, conspired to bilk several Indian tribes out of tens of millions of dollars.
Ralph Reed became rich in the process.
In September of 2004, as a direct result of their illicit activities, Abramoff, Scanlon, and a handful of others were called to testify before Senator John McCain’s Senate Committee on Indian Affairs in Washington, DC. However, Ralph Reed was never called upon to do the same, despite his name appearing over two hundred times in the final Senate Committee Investigation report. Jack Abramoff and Michael Scanlon later served prison time due to their actions. But not Ralph Reed. Despite overwhelming evidence proving it, Ralph Reed has never been held accountable for his many crimes. That is, until now.
The “Trial of the Devil Incarnate” finds the duplicitous Ralph Reed under oath as a fictional Senate Investigative Committee uncovers his decades-long career operating from the shadows. A career filled with scandalous, immoral, and often flat-out illegal activities. This ‘questioning’ reveals the truth about his blatant disregard for the law, his unabashed hypocrisy, and the plethora of flat-out lies and manufactured propaganda he has exploited to support his bank account through flimflammery and deceit.
And it has all been done ‘in the name of Jesus.’

Featuring excerpts from Terry’s very own Marathon of Hope journal, Hope by Terry Fox shares the untold story of a well known hero — the goofy, resilient, and courageous 21-year-old who rallied a nation behind his mission.

In 1976, when Terry Fox was just eighteen years old, he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and his right leg was amputated just above the knee. It quickly became his mission to help cure cancer so others would not have to endure what he had gone through. He dreamed up a Marathon of Hope — a fundraising run across Canada, from St. John’s, Newfoundland, to Victoria, British Columbia. 5,300 miles.

When he set off on April 12, 1980, Canadians were dubious. But as he continued across the country, enthusiasm grew to a frenzy. Sadly, Terry’s cancer returned, and after 143 days and 3,339 miles, he was forced to stop his Marathon of Hope. He passed away in 1981, but the nation picked up his mission where he left off, and the annual Terry Fox Run has even spread to cities around the world, raising more than $850 million to date — well over Terry’s goal of one dollar for every Canadian.

After conducting over fifty interviews with people throughout Terry’s life — ranging from his siblings, nurses, and coaches to volunteers during the Marathon of Hope — editor Barbara Adhiya discovers how Terry was able to run a marathon a day. Through their stories, passages from Terry’s marathon journal, and over 200 photos and documents, Hope by Terry Fox shows that with enough resilience, determination, humility, and support, ordinary people can do impossible things.

A master of documentary poetry, Erika Meitner takes up the question of desire and intimacy in her latest collection of poems. In her previous five collections of poetry, Erika Meitner has established herself as one of America’s most incisive observers, cherished for her remarkable ability to temper catastrophe with tenderness. In her newest collection Useful Junk, Meitner considers what it means to be a sexual being in a world that sees women as invisible—as mothers, customers, passengers, worshippers, wives. These poems render our changing bodies as real and alive, shaped by the sense memories of long-lost lovers and the still thrilling touch of a spouse after years of parenthood, affirming that we are made of every intimate moment we have ever had. Letter poems to a younger poet interspersed throughout the collection question desire itself and how new technologies—Uber, sexting, Instagram—are reframing self-image and shifting the ratios of risk and reward in erotic encounters. With dauntless vulnerability, Meitner travels a world of strip malls, supermarkets, and subway platforms, remaining porous and open to the world, always returning to the intimacies rooted deep within the self as a shout against the dying earth. Boldly affirming that pleasure is a vital form of knowledge, Useful Junk reminds us that our selves are made real and beautiful by our embodied experiences and that our desire is what keeps us alive.

A lively, accessible, and timely guide to Marxist economics for those who want to understand and dismantle the world of the 1%.

Economists regularly promote Capitalism as the greatest system ever to grace the planet. With the same breath, they implore us to leave the job of understanding the magical powers of the market to the "experts."

Despite the efforts of these mainstream commentators to convince us otherwise, many of us have begun to question why this system has produced such vast inequality and wanton disregard for its own environmental destruction. This book offers answers to exactly these questions on their own terms: in the form of a radical economic theory.
