Sinopsis

This is not a book of answers. It is a catalogue of dust.

Enter a house where time has stopped at 4:17 and every object tells a story of what has been left behind. From the worn fabric of an armchair to the dead silence of an unplugged telephone, this collection of intimate observations finds the profound in the mundane.

"The Dust of Things" is a quiet, unflinching look at the geography of a single room, a meditation on the weight of memory, and an inventory of the ordinary things that become the last remaining monuments of a life. It is an invitation to sit in the silence and notice the history written in scuff marks, the ghosts sitting in the furniture, and the slow, steady settling of dust on everything that remains.

Do not look for a guide or a lesson. Just open the door.

The KGB is one of the most famous abbreviations of the 20th century, and it has become synonymous with the shadowy and often violent actions of the Soviet Union’s secret police and internal security agencies. In fact, it is often used to refer to the Soviet state security agencies throughout its history, from the inception of the Cheka (Extraordinary Commission) in 1917 to the official elimination of the KGB in 1992. Whether it’s associated with the Russian Civil War’s excesses, Stalin’s purges, and even Vladimir Putin, the KGB has long been viewed as the West’s biggest bogeyman during the second half of the 20th century.
Inevitably, some of the Cold War’s most shadowy actions involved trying to turn Soviet assets, whether for propaganda or intelligence purposes, but the Soviet system constantly had to worry about defections, as evidenced by the construction of the Berlin Wall in the early 1960s. That said, while the whistleblowers may be celebrated if they damage the public relations of an adversary, they can be controversial if they damage one’s own country, as evidenced by the polarizing reputations of individuals like Edward Snowden and Julian Assange.
Yuri Bezmenov was among the first Soviet whistleblowers to attract attention on a global scale, and interest in his story has recently been revived thanks to his surprising cameo in the teaser trailer for Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War in August 2020. This came despite the fact he was far from the first ex-KGB agent or Russian to pull back the curtains on the Russian government and reveal the harrowing “truths” they were once sworn to harbor, as well as the disconcerting covert operations of which they once allegedly partook.

The Marxism of Che Guevara -...

“Excellent. . . .The book gives one a clear understanding of the relationship of Guevara's thought to traditional Russian and Marxist philosophy.” —Choice Reviews   In this seminal exploration of Che Guevara’s contributions to Marxist thinking, Michael Löwy traces Che's ideas about Marxism both as they related to Latin America and to more general philosophical, political, and economic issues. Now revised and updated, this edition includes a chapter on Guevara's search for a new paradigm of socialism and a substantive essay by Peter McLaren on Che’s continued relevance today. Löwy portrays Guevara as a revolutionary humanist who considered all political questions from an internationalist viewpoint. For him, revolutionary movements in Latin America were part of a world process of emancipation. Löwy considers especially Che's views on the contradiction between socialist planning and the law of value in the Cuban economy and his search for an alternative road to the “actually existing socialism” of the Stalinist and post-Stalinist Soviet bloc. Che’s varied occupations—doctor and economist, revolutionary and banker, agitator and ambassador, industrial organizer and guerrilla fighter—were expressions of a deep commitment to social change. This book eloquently captures his views on humanity, his contributions to the theory of revolutionary warfare, and his ideas about society’s transition to socialism, offering a cohesive, nuanced introduction to the range of Guevara's thought.   “An excellent classroom tool for anyone teaching about Latin America or revolution.” ―Science & Society “[This book] provides us with the picture of [Guevara’s] great, flexible, and searching mind.” —Carleton Beals   “Michael Löwy’s brief but penetrating book takes Che Guevara not as a romantic adventurer but as a serious revolutionary militant.” ―Telos

Jim is a former Australian Commando Intelligence Operative that had once lost his way. He now works in Brisbane as an authour, speaker and fitness consultant.
His autobiography "Underworld Commando" leaps out of a 1980s Kings Cross world of crime, corrupt police, commandos and some of the most notorious, infamous mob identities in Australian crime history.
Jim gives the true-crime account of his double life as a Special Forces soldier and moonlight enforcer for the mob's Lennie 'Mr Big' McPherson and 'Salami' Kon Kontorinakis. At the Sydney Hilton in 1991 the "good times" come to a sudden stop with a fierce gunfight against 3 corrupt police sergeants of the Infamous NSW Armed holdup Squad. The Hilton gunfight brought NSW Police corruption to a halt and launched the Wood Royal Commission into Police Corruption and cascading Pandora's Box of evils.
Jim draws on his skills to traverse the decades beyond the gunfight, escape, courts and robberies, prison, informers, fights, a fake murder trial, the Wood Royal Commission, reform, shot after his release, repatriation, resilience and determination to start over again and again.
Having survived all, he now fights against a global 'Order of Evil' intent on depopulating the Earth and genetically downgrading the human race into forced slavery.
This time, he's on the right side.

“An affectionate portrait, one that recognizes Watts as musician, colleague, family man, obsessive collector and immaculate dresser.”—Sunday Times
“Sexton, a longtime Stones chronicler, tells Watts’s story with warmth and diligence.”—Observer
The fully authorized and official biography of legendary Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, one of the world’s most revered and celebrated musicians of the last half century.
Forewords by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
Charlie Watts was one of the most decorated musicians in the world, having joined the Rolling Stones, a few months after their formation, early in 1963.
A student of jazz drumming, he was headhunted by the band after bumping into them regularly in London’s rhythm and blues clubs. Once installed at the drum seat, he didn’t miss a gig, album or tour in his 60 years in the band. He was there throughout the swinging sixties, the early shot at superstardom and the Stones' world conquest; and throughout the debauchery of the 1970s, typified by 1972's Exile on Main St., considered one of the great albums of the century. By the 1980s, Charlie was battling his own demons, but emerged unscathed to enhance his unparalleled reputation even further over the ensuing decades.
Watts went through band bust-ups, bereavements and changes in personnel, managers, guitarists and rhythm sections, but remained the rock at the heart of the Rolling Stones for nearly 60 years—the thoughtful, intellectual but no less compelling counterpoint to the raucousness of his bandmates Keith Richards, Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood. And this is his story.
