Sinopsis

Former military man, Nathan Mason, is trying to piece his life together after the death of his mother and the separation from his twin. Knowing the inheritance left by his mother won’t last forever, he has two options: return to the Army or get a job in security.

Landing a bodyguard position isn’t his ideal job choice, but it’s one of the few opportunities he’s qualified for. In fact, he believes he’s over-qualified to be on babysitting duty for some wealthy man’s bratty child. All that changes when he meets Christian Madison.

Christian is the twenty-year-old heir to a high-profile pharmaceutical company. Threats have been pouring in since his father’s announcement to hike the price of the company’s AIDS treatment drug. Arthur Madison knows he needs to ensure Christian’s safety, so he hires a team to guard his son.

Bodyguard Nathan Mason is Christian’s only chance for safety, and his only hope for love.

New Year's Eve is usually a night of fun and wild celebrations, but for a police officer, it can be the most dangerous night of the year.

Officer Ellis Mason has worked as a beat cop on the streets of Atlanta for over eight years, and he knows what it takes to survive them. But when Lieutenant Godfrey and his infamous narcotics task force issue a dire warning about a lethal drug that's coming to the city, Mason finds himself fighting a war he's not trained for, with God pushing him beyond his limits.

Mason and his partner are both on high alert, but the moment he stops the tall, handsome drifter who wandered into town, Mason knows he doesn't belong.

Jesse Holstrom is lost and possibly in trouble, but Mason's instincts tell him that it isn’t the drug-dealing kind. Every night that Mason patrols by and sees Jesse huddled on a park bench, cold and alone, it pulls at his heart a little more. Mason doesn't know how the young man ended up homeless and lost in his neighborhood, but when Jesse ends up on God's radar, Mason knows he doesn't have long to find out.

Mason promised himself he wouldn't let a good thing slip through his fingers again . . . not this year.

    Contains mature themes.

Another man struggling to find his life again
Ryan Matson dreams of a new life, one with a future where drugs aren’t in control. But lying to himself isn’t helping him achieve that goal. Neither is pretending he’s sober, especially not with Logan Silver, his one-night stand and longtime crush. When Ryan's world implodes and all his hopes for a fresh start vanish, he heads down a familiar, self-destructive path, doing what he does best: running and hiding. Only this time, he’s got Logan Silver searching for him.
And Logan won’t stop until he finds him.
Logan Silver is the man who has everything and yet nothing at all. After losing his brother to drugs years ago, Logan is heartbroken, unable to regain his footing or open himself to others. Except to Ryan, the only one to break through the pain that haunts him each day. He is driven by a need to protect Ryan, to give him all he can—a home, a chance at a fresh start…everything, no strings attached. Then Ryan disappears, taking Logan’s trust with him. And when he returns, insisting on keeping his distance, Logan feels like he’s been used. And nobody uses Logan.
Logan and Ryan are unable to deny their attraction, but this time has to be different: no more lying to themselves and each other. Logan must let go of his heartbreak and fear to support Ryan as he discovers his own way. Because Ryan doesn’t need a savior. He needs to own his truth, believe in himself, and accept that he deserves to be happy. Only then can the two have a future together—one built on a foundation of love and trust—that won’t vanish like clouds in thin air.
From Lambda Literary Award winning author Felice Stevens comes an emotional, thrilling new MM romance full of heartbreak, hope and ultimately love. It's filled with angst, true friendship, and swoony, steamy moments. And of course an epic happily ever after.
Be advised there is on-page discussion of substance abuse and mental health issues.

When a mudslide strands a train, Baxter, a queer Black sleeping car porter, must contend with the perils of white passengers, ghosts, and his secret love affair

The Sleeping Car Porter brings to life an important part of Black history in North America, from the perspective of a queer man living in a culture that renders him invisible in two ways. Affecting, imaginative, and visceral enough that you’ll feel the rocking of the train, The Sleeping Car Porter is a stunning accomplishment.

Baxter’s name isn’t George. But it’s 1929, and Baxter is lucky enough, as a Black man, to have a job as a sleeping car porter on a train that crisscrosses the country. So when the passengers call him George, he has to just smile and nod and act invisible. What he really wants is to go to dentistry school, but he’ll have to save up a lot of nickel and dime tips to get there, so he puts up with “George.”

On this particular trip out west, the passengers are more unruly than usual, especially when the train is stalled for two extra days; their secrets start to leak out and blur with the sleep-deprivation hallucinations Baxter is having. When he finds a naughty postcard of two queer men, Baxter’s memories and longings are reawakened; keeping it puts his job in peril, but he can’t part with the postcard or his thoughts of Edwin Drew, Porter Instructor.

”Suzette Mayr’s The Sleeping Car Porter offers a richly detailed account of a particular occupation and time—train porter on a Canadian passenger train in 1929—and unforcedly allows it to illuminate the societal strictures imposed on black men at the time—and today. Baxter is a secretly-queer and sleep-deprived porter saving up for dental school, working a system that periodically assigns unexplained demerits, and once a certain threshold is reached, the porter loses his job. Thus, success is impossible, the best one can do is to fail slowly. As Baxter takes a cross-continental run, the boarding passengers have more secrets than an Agatha Christie cast, creating a powder keg on train tracks. The Sleeping Car Porter is an engaging and illuminating novel about the costs of work, service, and secrets.” – Keith Mosman, Powell's Books

”I thought The Sleeping Car Porter was fantastic! It strikes a balance between being about the struggles of being black and gay at that time while not being too heavy handed with it. I enjoyed his constant mental math on how many demerits he might receive for each infraction. The reader really gets a sense of the conflict that Baxter is going through. I really liked reading a book from the perspective of a porter.” – Hunter Gillum, Beaverdale Books
