Sinopse

"Nationalism's Modern Impact" explores the persistent and evolving force of nationalism, arguing that it remains central to state formation, cultural identities, and global conflicts. Challenging the notion of nationalism as a fading ideology, the book examines its historical roots and contemporary manifestations, revealing its critical role in shaping our world. For instance, nationalist sentiment has been key in both unifying nations like Germany and Italy, while simultaneously fueling divisive conflicts across the globe, highlighting its complex and often contradictory nature. The book traces nationalism from the Enlightenment to the present day, contextualizing its development within modernization, industrialization, and democratic ideals.

Structured in three parts, it begins by defining core concepts, then examines case studies across various regions, and concludes with an analysis of nationalism in the 21st century, addressing its relationship with globalization and populism. By drawing upon diverse sources and interdisciplinary perspectives, the book offers a nuanced understanding of nationalism's enduring power and its impact on international politics and national identity.

What is it like to be a woman at the forefront of political life?
Discover the compelling narratives of women leading the charge in Welsh politics through the ground-breaking initiative by Archif Menywod Cymru/Women's Archive Wales. Dive into candid interviews with trailblazers from the Welsh Assembly, which preceded the Senedd, and was the first UK government to achieve gender parity in 2003. From the Social Services & Welfare Wales Act led by Gwenda Thomas, to the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act led by Jane Davidson, explore the stories of their political motivations, role models and how they navigated the challenges of balancing family life with political representation and their civic responsibilities.
Setting the Record Straight stands as an essential record of Wales's political evolution. A work of significant importance, it not only pays tribute to the accomplishments of these remarkable women, but also envisions a future where women of all ages and backgrounds continue to play a central role in shaping the policies and governance of Wales.
"It would have been an absolute scandal not to have captured these rich oral interviews from some genuine political pioneers. Without projects like this, we would continue to be restricted to seeing politics through an exclusively male lens. This fine and readable collection of interviews is not just enjoyable and enlightening, but invaluable to understanding devolution and women's history in Wales too." Professor Laura McAllister

Vanessa Freerks analyzes how Baudrillard re-actualizes Nietzsche’s On the Genealogy of Morals, investigating how themes and approaches in Baudrillard’s Consumer Society, Simulacra and Simulations and Symbolic Exchange and Death resonate with Nietzsche’s On the Genealogy of Morals. This book fills a gap in the limited literature available on the relation between Baudrillard’s thought to that of Nietzsche and Heidegger. Baudrillard with Nietzsche and Heidegger: A Contrastive Analysis is essential reading for students and scholars of continental philosophy, sociology, and cultural theory.

Let's face it: anxiety can interfere with every single aspect of your life, from work and family to relationships and finances. Left unchecked, the cycle of anxiety reinforces and perpetuates itself over time, and can leave you feeling paralyzed with fear.

In What Happened to Make You Anxious?, anxiety expert Jaime Castillo offers a whole new approach; one that focuses less on avoiding or extinguishing anxiety, and more toward understanding and working with it to create a fulfilling, meaningful life. You'll learn how your anxiety is connected to what Castillo refers to as "little 't' traumas"—seemingly small, unhealed traumas from your past that drive your fear and worry, so you can get to the root of your anxiety and start healing.

Your anxiety works overtime communicating perceived threats; this book will show you how to listen to anxiety, discern which threats are real, which don't fit the actual facts of the situation, and which are triggered by past events.

You've tried managing it on your own. You may have even received treatment. If you're at your wit's end when it comes to your anxiety, this book will show you a new path toward lasting relief.
