Summary

In eighteen thematically linked stories, Colin Fleming explores the ways in which relationships end, with a focus on the void a loved one leaves behind. In “Fire with Legs,” the inhabitants of a noise machine discuss the end of a previous relationship, and the life that went with it. In “Playing in Room B,” an amateur videographer searches for his vanished wife in his movies, wondering when she started slipping out of the frame. In “Green Wood,” a man examines the death of his wife and the certainty of reality in a world where the TV program never changes. In “The Char Paper Blues Band,” a tiny group of professional musicians provides the background track to a couple’s life, from blissful harmony to the gradual souring of the song. Through magical realism and extended metaphor, Fleming explores the epiphenomena of failed relationships, the flotsam left behind in the wreckage of life as it was.

At forty-seven, Gil is the world's oldest twenty-two-year-old man. He lives rent-free as a handyman in the L.A. summer house of a couple of rich retirees who only come out for vacations. Gruff, shrewdly observant, but perplexed and beleaguered by women since his nasty divorce, Gil has been dating Sara, an animal communicator, long enough to converse freely with all four of his dogs (especially Jimmy, the alpha). When Jimmy learns Gil isn't his biological father, he demands to meet his birth mother, a dog owned by Gil's sexy ex-wife, Eden, now remarried to a much wealthier man. Then Gil's employers take their vacation, forcing him to relocate and setting in motion an odyssey that ultimately shines a light on the root of Gil's problems with women and adulthood by forcing him to move in with his mother.Filled with the sharp social and sexual insight-and an uncanny understanding of the thought processes of dogs-that have become Merrill Markoe's trademarks, Nose Down, Eyes Up is a howlingly funny story of love, sex, and the meaning of family.

“In a class by itself.”—Jules Feiffer on DoonesburyThis all-color volume celebrates the marriage of Alex and Toggle, an event which optimistically confirms that life, like Doonesbury, rolls on. Indeed, how remarkable that the strip has so embraced and occupied its era that three generations of one family have married within its panels. Gathering their kith and kin around them at Walden, the wise but wounded soldier-artist and the brilliant but insecure techhead make a promising team for the years ahead, well-rounded yet squared away.Doonesbury’s fifth decade finds the largest rep company in the history of comic strips fully and widely engaged. Like so many flesh-and-blood fellow citizens, key characters now struggle with dramatic career change and job stress. And the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan continue to reverberate through the lives of others, as the strip illuminates their experiences with an attentiveness unparalleled in popular culture. Amid the relentless unfolding of unexpected storylines, the strip’s second and third generation characters increasingly take center stage, and the youngest regular, Sam, comes of age—literally in the blink of an eye—as the newlyweds prepare to welcome twins. It never ends, and how lucky for readers. “Most comic strips run out of creative energy after their initial inspiration,” notes Garry Wills. “Trudeau has just kept improving, year after year.”

Words of wisdom and incredible life stories, written and read by Gary Busey in his unique Buseyisms.
"What is a Buseyism? I take the letters that spell a word to create a definition for the word in the truth of its deeper, dimensional meaning. I weave in my personal anecdotes along with my musings on how I live life successfully according to my experiences.
Who am I, a genius, a crazy madman, to give advice? This is not advice. I am sharing the life lessons I learned while surviving the ups and downs of almost 50 years in Hollywood, a near fatal motorcycle accident, a drug overdose, two divorces, bankruptcy and cancer in the middle of my face. I may turn concepts you usually believe in upside down with my bizarre stories, but that comes with the dinner.

From beloved actor and cultural icon David Duchovny comes a surreal and hilarious audio-book.Ted Fullilove, aka Mr. Peanut, is not like other Ivy League grads. He shares an apartment with Goldberg, his beloved battery-operated fish, sleeps on a bed littered with yellow legal pads penned with what he hopes will be the next great American novel, and spends the waning malaise-filled days of the Carter administration at Yankee Stadium, waxing poetic while slinging peanuts to pay the rent.
When Ted hears the news that his estranged father, Marty, is dying of lung cancer, he immediately moves back into his childhood home, where a whirlwind of revelations ensues. The browbeating absentee father of his youth is living to make up for lost time, but his health dips drastically whenever his beloved Red Sox lose. And so, with help from a crew of neighborhood old-timers and the lovely Mariana—Marty's Nuyorican grief counselor—Ted orchestrates the illusion of a Sox winning streak, enabling Marty and the Red Sox to reverse the Curse of the Bambino and cruise their way to World Series victory. Well, sort of.
David Duchovny's richly drawn Bucky F*cking Dent is a story of the bond between fathers and sons, Yankee fans and the Fenway faithful, and grapples with the urgent need to find our story in an age of irony and artifice. Culminating in that fateful moment in October of '78 when the meek Bucky Dent hit his way into baseball history with the unlikeliest of home runs, this tragicomic audio-book demonstrates that life truly belongs to the losers—that the long shots are the ones worth betting on.
Bucky F*cking Dent is a singular tale that brims with the hilarity, poignancy, and profound solitude of modern life.A Macmillan Audio production.

After many years of prayer and therapy I wish to use ancient philosophy to help others. We live at a time of tremendous change. The only constant in this life is change. This book is dedicated to the young the forgotten generation. Many may find this narrow door approach to life boring. Yet if you're looking for a Peace of Mind you must begin to unplug. I will not try to convert you 2 my way of thinking but possibly a healthier method of musing. After years of using over the counter drugs to become a great writer, I almost lost my mind and my soul. I only pray this helps those of you who are seeking a mental freedom 2 this current revolution surrounding the globe. Socrates lived and died speaking the truth. What is the truth? What is a lie? Why are the rich still well rich and you still poor? Luck, chance, birth, etc. Why does the Church Tithe? Why is the Bible altered by the Rich to serve their interests? Do you really believe God wants us all to be homeless, hungry, starving? Why does marriage not work? Why does owning beget more debt? Why are elections jokes to the common sense and dignity of man? Why is there still racism? Why do we have The NBA, The NFL, NHL and NASCAR? Combining research, history, philosophy, religion and practical knowledge, Doc Lies Cole attempts to bring Socrates back to life? He beckons us to take the most important journey, the one blocked. The path to power is not through the barrel of a gun (Mao), but in the halls of your mind, of your soul. Tears Run Unlimited To Hope To the reader, You and I are living a lie. People, places and things are nouns until we put a “Truth” in them. In this book, well it is a hope you may not become a fool anymore. One philosopher wrote “The Anti-Christ.” This is the “Anti-Truth.” For in order for us to rise out of poverty, we must think, act, and improvise from a “Top Down” approach. This work is inspired by “Thieves By Law;” a documentary celebrating lives of the underworld. To continue seeking the “Truth”
