Sinopsis

In "The Motor Boys on Road and River; Or, Racing To Save a Life," Clarence Young masterfully blends adventure and technology, capturing the exuberance of the early automotive era. This engaging narrative follows a group of boys as they embark on thrilling escapades, navigating both roadways and waterways in a race against time to save a companion. Young's vivid descriptions and fast-paced prose reflect the optimism of the early 20th century, where motor vehicles symbolized freedom and potential, engaging young readers with both action and camaraderie, emblematic of the series' spirit and societal context of expanding motorization in America. Clarence Young, an influential figure in early 20th-century juvenile literature, drew inspiration from his own experiences and the burgeoning automotive industry. His fascination with the mechanics of automobiles and propulsion, combined with a keen understanding of boyhood adventures, positioned him uniquely to craft this narrative. Young's background, marked by storytelling that encourages ingenuity and resourcefulness, reflects the values of American boys, instilling not only adventure but moral lessons in his works. I highly recommend "The Motor Boys on Road and River" to readers who appreciate tales of friendship, bravery, and technological exploration. Young's ability to combine thrilling narratives with educational elements makes this book not merely a story of racing, but a deeper reflection on the values of perseverance and teamwork, resonating with both young readers and nostalgic adults.

In Indiana, basketball is the next thing to religion. Especially for inner-city black kids like Derrick Bowen. He's a 6'3" freshman, lightning quick, and he can slam the rock. He wants to start at point guard for Marion High, but senior Nick Starks has that nailed down. Besides, the coach is old school. He thinks D-Bow needs to work on his game, his shot, and his attitude. That means bench time. And that's when Hamilton Academy, the elite school in the suburbs, comes sniffing around. They want D-Bow for the next three years. His mom wants no part of that. But his father needs a job, and Uncle Kid, who is a bitter ex-star at Marion High, has his own plans. Yeah, there's a pretty girl and a best friend in the mix. Plus plenty of basketball action and suspense just like high school boys like to read.

Never Trust A Thief! by Robert Silverberg - Kiley felt all-powerful with the alien guiding him in the looting of a world. Now the whole galaxy was his if he could remember to—Never Trust A Thief!
Kiley took one last, fond look at the glittering heap of jewels in the back of the spaceship, nodded happily to himself, and began to set up a blastoff orbit. Somewhere down on the field far below, he could see dot-like figures—spaceport attendants, all firmly convinced that this was an authorized flight.
He chuckled. This is the right way to pull a job, he thought contentedly. Hypnotize 'em silly and then walk in and take what you want.
His fingers skipped lightly over the control panel as he readied the ship for blastoff. For the first time in his life he felt truly happy. Two million stellors of rare gems in the back of the ship, and even after cutting Thaklaru in for his share, that still left a million. A million stellors! Lord, that sounded good!
Well, Kiley, are you going to spend all day dreaming? I'm waiting for you!
The rolling thunder of Thaklaru's voice in Kiley's mind jolted him back to reality. "I'm on my way," he said out loud, knowing that the alien was listening. "I've got the stuff, and I'll be there before you know it."
Good. I'm anxious to see those jewels.
    "Don't worry about it, Thaklaru."
