Three timely one-act plays set in war-torn Syria and Iraq, by 'one of our best new playwrights' (The Times), featuring the epic and bloody adventures of an Iraqi translator, a London schoolgirl and a crackshot sniper.
The Collector is a tale of creeping darkness, set during the Coalition's occupation of Iraq, as a team of prison guards become brutalised by war. 'Outstanding new writing… first class' (Scotsman)
Echoes is a bloody story of colonialism – ancient and modern – and the rhyme of history, drawing astonishing parallels between the lives of a Jihadi bride and a Victorian pioneer. 'A dark and daring look at colonial cruelty… hugely impressive' (Guardian)
Angel is set in a Syrian town, where the apparently indestructible Angel of Kobane – a crackshot sniper with a hundred kills to her name – is all that stands between the town's citizens and the fearsome approach of ISIS. 'War reportage at its best – and great theatre' (The Times)
All three plays premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe between 2014 and 2016, and have subsequently toured the UK and globally, including runs in London, around Australia and at New York's 59E59 Theaters. They have won eleven major international fringe awards, including several Fringe Firsts, and Angel was one of The Times' Top 10 Best Plays of 2016.

John Clare was born on 13th July, 1793 in Helpston, a few miles north of Peterborough.
Schooled only until the age of 12 his early career was that of agricultural labourer, pot boy, gardener and lime burner. His early life of hardship and frequent malnutrition led to his diminutive stature of five feet and contributed to his later health problems.
In 1820 his first poems were published and began to earn him a reputation as the “Northamptonshire Peasant Poet”.
His poetry sold well but only occasionally did that and other incomes keep his head above water. Married with seven children the burden was huge and demanding. Frequently penniless his health began to dissolve.
He last published in 1835 and by 1837 with his drinking out of control and his mental state shredded he entered a mental institution. He was to reside in such unhappy places until his death.
He died aged 71 on 20th May 1864. His remains were returned to Helpston for burial in St Botolph’s churchyard.
Today he is considered one of the greatest of English poets. His lyrical works on nature and the countryside earn him this just praise.
This volume comes to you from Portable Poetry, a specialized imprint from Deadtree Publishing. Our range is large and growing and covers single poets, themes, and many compilations.

The 1815 eruption of Indonesia’s Tambora volcano had a catastrophic effect on climate around the world. In North America and Europe, the following twelve months became known as “the year without summer.” Confined indoors by the relentless rain and cold, a group of friends, including 18-year old Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley and poet Lord Byron, began writing ghost stories to pass the time. Shelley’s tale “Frankenstein” remains, over 200 years later, a work of timeless imagination and power.Includes a post-play conversation with Leslie S. n her first poetry chapbook, the poet talks about her growth as a writer, how she was encouraged, amidst uncertainty and fear, by time spent in different landscapes and by exposure to evolution, to the wide array of events that took place in congruence with art and writing. The poems in this chapbook are interwoven with diverse themes ranging from emotions to social concerns and slivers of mythology.
