Summary

Alcoholism is a creeping, crippling tragedy that affects the lives of millions. It's irrevocably affected the life of Louis van Pletten.
At 45 years old, he is still struggling to complete his third book, his Great Masterpiece, his magnum opus. Trouble is, at over 300 pages, it's morbid, dark as hell and as full of utter misery and self-loathing as he is. He can barely stand to read it himself. He should burn it, but it's taken him three years to write the damn thing... and he has no spark left to start over – and just enough money left to last him three more months. He lies to himself all the time; he can stop drinking any time he wants to, it's his business anyway... friendship doesn't matter, even love and life don't matter - oh, why can't people leave him be? Especially Bernice? The truth is, he really can't live without alcohol... he's tried. He lives from one sip to the next, and it's become a way of life. And it's killing him.
Theo Engela's first novel focuses on alcoholism and the struggle of the main character with it. The story is brilliantly written, and describes this way of life with dramatic and upsetting realism, for the alcoholic and those nearest them.

A moving and darkly comic story of an Afghanistan veteran's search for redemption, and a fascinating insight into the plight of ex-servicemen in modern Britain.
Ex-squaddie Ray - mentally scarred from his time in Afghanistan - returns home to Doncaster to attempt to see his kids and reconcile with his ex-wife, Carla - mentally scarred from her marriage to Ray. A pub lock-in provides the setting for the humorous, heart-wrenching action that follows.
Glory Dazed won the BBC's Alfred Bradley Bursary Prize 2011. It was developed in collaboration with ex-soldiers serving prison sentences at HMP & YOI Doncaster by Second Shot Productions, a social enterprise that exists to give serving prisoners and ex-offenders opportunities within creative industries.

“When we are born, we cry that we are come to this great stage of fools.”
King Lear has lived a long and difficult life as a king and decides that he wants to retire of his duties. To absolve himself of power, Lear decides to split his kingdom among his three daughters based on their affections toward him. While two of his daughters flatter their father and declare their fealty and respect, his third daughter refuses to flatter his ego and declares that she only loves him because he is her father. This disrespect causes Lear to leave her nothing.
People in search of power can be duplicitous though, and as King Lear learns that the two flatterers were false in their declarations, his anger sparks a descent into madness that in turn sparks a chain of murders and betrayals that spread through many kingdoms and people rapidly.
King Lear, while written with beautiful poetry and language, is dark and brutal, with lessons of loyalty and the value of family bonds that still ring true centuries later.

Life is a journey, different for everyone. Yet we all deal with problems and joys on this journey. I reflected on my journey in poetry. As I slowly shared my poetry with others, they insisted that I share it with a wider audience. I never felt my poetry was that good or that important, but every time I shared it, it seemed to touch the people who listened to it or read it.With this book, I am stepping way outside my comfort zone in the hope that the people urging me to share more of my poetry with a wider audience are right, that the poems do touch people and that I have something to say.Depression — or as I prefer to call it, “The Big D” — has been a companion on my life journey since I was nine. As a teenager, my answer was to shut down and shut out everyone, preferring death to living. By the grace of God, I never carried out my suicide plans. When I turned thirty, I sought help. It took almost ten years to fi nd a medication combination that consistently worked. At that point, talk therapy with my fourth therapist began to make sense and make a diff erence. My poetry became an integral part of my therapy and recovery from the Big D.

Tessa is a young, brilliant barrister. She has worked her way up from working-class origins to the top of her game: defending, cross-examining and winning.
But an unexpected event forces her to confront the patriarchal power of the law, where the burden of proof and morality diverge.
Prima Facie by Suzie Miller is an award-winning play for a solo actor, taking us deep into a world where emotion and integrity are in conflict with the rules of the game.
After several acclaimed productions in Australia and winning the Australian Writers' Guild Award for Drama, the play received its European premiere at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London's West End in April 2022. It was produced by Empire Street Productions, directed by Justin Martin, and starred Jodie Comer, the Emmy and Bafta Award-winning star of TV's Killing Eve, making her West End debut.

An Epic Poem in the tradition of The Iliad of Homer and John Milton’s Paradise Lost, The Voice Celestial bridges the centuries that have passed since Jesus Christ gave his message to mankind and links that message to our present age. The Wayfarer makes his journey through the world’s great religions to the mysteries of Egypt, and finally to Jesus Christ, being changed in the process, and discovering along the way that we live in a loving universe, where all men and women are masters of their own destinies.
