Summary

The Great Himalaya Trail is one of the longest and highest trails in the world. It is a trail that winds for 1,700 kilometres through Nepal — across the 'roof of the world', over ice-covered passes, crossing high-mountain deserts and through some of the most remote areas on earth. This path is perhaps the ultimate walk. In 2012, Himalaya veteran Gerda Pauler set out to walk the length of the trail to raise awareness of autism in Nepal. Travelling across the country with open eyes and ears, ascending high passes, visiting isolated villages and drinking tea with the locals allowed her to see and hear things many of us might never hear, never experience — and never know. Beautifully written like many great travel books and with a foreword by Sir Chris Bonington, this is so much more than a travel diary — it is a collection of stories from the very heart of Nepal and its people. From Tibetan tea and local beer to corrupt politicians and child marriage; cold nights and monsoon rain to incredible views and searing heat; and from angry yaks and giant spiders to Mr Bean and Jack Nicholson… 'Her book is not about her, but about this trip, across the roof of the world, done both for her own pleasure and for those who suffer from autism.' Sir Chris Bonington

★ What is AIP Diet? ★The Auto-Immune Protocol (AIP) is a diet recommended for those suffering from autoimmune diseases or pain and with a high degree of systemic inflammation, but also for those interested in deep detoxification of the organism or in doubt that some very common foods, and normally allowed in other food plans, can be a source of intolerance.★ Why AIP Diet? ★It is a therapeutic elimination and reintroduction diet that has a solid scientific basis, created for autoimmune diseases. But also a therapeutic diet to fill nutritional deficiencies, to rebalance the microbiome, to reduce intestinal inflammation and treat the leaky gut, for hormonal balance, to increase antioxidant defenses, to regain energy, to reduce systemic inflammation (and the cardiovascular consequences). The effects on weight control are there but, in my opinion, secondary and a consequence of the recovery of health and well-being. We talk about the Autoimmune Protocol when there are autoimmune disorders or diseases associated with impaired intestinal permeability (leaky gut) with an autoimmune response, such as:rheumatoid arthritis, celiac disease, depression, type 1 diabetes, hypothyroidism, Crohn's disease, narcolepsy, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, Hashimoto's, thyroiditis, vitiligo...★ How does it work? ★It is an elimination diet. This means that it provides for the exclusion of some food groups to observe the effects on health in the following weeks (3-6 weeks). In the first phase, foods and drugs that could be linked to intestinal inflammation or microbiota imbalances are eliminated. Especially products and foods that are known to cause allergies or unwanted reactions are evaluated.♥ So, starting from a concept of CLEAN FOOD, we have created 80 easy recipes, accessible to beginners and not, to approach this food plan, experiment with it and immediately feel the benefits.✓Enjoy the Diet, Enjoy new life !!!

" . . . are dinosaurs social constructs? Might not all of our beliefs about dinosaurs merely be figments of the paleontological imagination? A few years ago such questions would have seemed preposterous, even nonsensical. Now they must have a serious answer."At stake in the "Science Wars" that have raged in academe and in the media is nothing less than the standing of science in our culture. One side argues that science is a "social construct," that it does not discover facts about the world, but rather constructs artifacts disguised as objective truths. This view threatens the authority of science and rejects science's claims to objectivity, rationality, and disinterested inquiry. Drawing Out Leviathan examines this argument in the light of some major debates about dinosaurs: the case of the wrong-headed dinosaur, the dinosaur "heresies" of the 1970s, and the debate over the extinction of dinosaurs.Keith Parsons claims that these debates show that evidence and logic remained vitally important. They show science to be a complex set of activities, pervaded by social influences, and not easily reducible to any stereotype. Parsons acknowledges that there are lessons to be learned by scientists from their would-be adversaries, and the book concludes with some recommendations for ending the Science Wars.

In the summer of 1997, Charles Moore set sail from Honolulu with the sole intention of returning home after competing in a trans-Pacific race. To get to California, he and his crew took a shortcut through the seldom-traversed North Pacific Subtropical Gyre, a vast "oceanic desert" where winds are slack and sailing ships languish. There, Moore realized his catamaran was surrounded by a "plastic soup." He had stumbled upon the largest garbage dump on the planet-a spiral nebula where plastic outweighed zooplankton, the ocean's food base, by a factor of six to one.In Plastic Ocean, Moore recounts his ominous findings and unveils the secret life and hidden properties of plastics. From milk jugs to polymer molecules small enough to penetrate human skin or be unknowingly inhaled, plastic is now suspected of contributing to a host of ailments including infertility, autism, thyroid dysfunction, and some cancers. A call to action as urgent as Rachel Carson's seminal Silent Spring, Moore's sobering revelations will be embraced by activists, concerned parents, and seafaring enthusiasts concerned about the deadly impact and implications of this manmade blight.

By 1979, we knew nearly everything we understand today about climate change — including how to stop it. Over the next decade, a handful of scientists, politicians, and strategists, led by two unlikely heroes, risked their careers in a desperate, escalating campaign to convince the world to act before it was too late. Losing Earth is their story and ours. The New York Times Magazine devoted an entire issue to Nathaniel Rich’s groundbreaking chronicle of that decade, which became an instant journalistic phenomenon — the subject of news coverage, editorials, and conversations all over the world. In its emphasis on the lives of the people who grappled with the great existential threat of our age, it made vivid the moral dimensions of our shared plight. Now expanded into audiobook form, Losing Earth tells the human story of climate change in even richer, more intimate terms. It reveals, in previously unreported detail, the birth of climate denialism and the genesis of the fossil-fuel industry’s coordinated effort to thwart climate policy through misinformation propaganda and political influence. The audiobook carries the story into the present day, wrestling with the long shadow of our past failures and asking crucial questions about how we make sense of our past, our future, and ourselves.Like John Hersey’s Hiroshima and Jonathan Schell’s The Fate of the Earth, Losing Earth is the rarest of achievements: a riveting work of dramatic history that articulates a moral framework for understanding how we got here and how we must go forward.
