Summary

A beautiful, mysterious woman possesses the power to bewitch and destroy in Grand Master Chelsea Quinn Yarbro’s breathtaking novel of erotic obsession and creeping horror Her name is Fayre and she is a profound mystery, as inscrutable as she is beautiful. Every man who beholds her is lost, enslaved by desire and erotic fantasy. But Fayre’s irresistible sexual magnetism is not her only capability, as her last “lover” discovered much too late. He wanted to own her—and now he is dead.   From the moment the renowned brain surgeon Dr. Giles Todd first sets his eyes on Fayre, he is possessed. He must have this alluring, exquisite creature, body and soul, or he will surely go mad. Dr. Prentiss Fellkirk’s attraction, however, takes a markedly different form. A researcher of psychic and paranormal phenomena, Fellkirk can sense Fayre’s power and what lies within her perfect form—and he is determined to gain access to her most carefully protected secrets. An undeniable need drives both a man of rational science and a dedicated pioneer of the occult, making Todd and Fellkirk bitter and dangerous rivals as they are drawn toward the edge of an abyss. And in the chasm that looms before them waits an evil beyond imagination. . . .

Prepare to have your imagination charmed and your holiday enchanted by a book about change, hope, and goodwill toward humankind. This magical and fun Christmas story will warm your heart like the best hot cocoa.

A mystical agency exists that is responsible for creating Christmas Carol scenarios with preselected targets every December. Ghostly employees of the agency work in either the Past, Present, or Future department and each year they are assigned humans on Earth in need of being "Scrooged" so those people can reform and embrace the potential for goodness, love, and humanity they have in their hearts.

Frost Mason has worked in the Present department for almost a century saving souls headed down the wrong path. The problem---over the years Frost's belief in the miracle of Christmas and what her agency does has started to fade because while many people commit to reforming after the "life-changing" experience of being Scrogged, human beings rarely change permanently.

Frost must find a way to reawaken hope for humanity and the Spirit of Christmas in her own spectral heart, while working with her team to save her 100th soul by midnight on Christmas Eve.

Far from its popular image, the story of Frankenstein as told by Mary Shelley is not a tale that finds horror in a hideous "monster" or a "crazed" scientist. The darkness in the narrative is found in the profound loneliness of both Creator and Created as they seek one another in a tragic cycle of unfulfilled longing and revenge.
This powerful novel, first published in 1818, still surprises and shocks us with the fundamental questions about the moral boundaries of human discovery and helps us to question what it means to be human.

Edgar Allan Poe has the genius to manipulate language so well that he could engage my imagination and get me terrified even though little was 'done' in the sense of horrible actions described. My imagination, under the power of his creepy words, conjured the atmosphere and amplified the scariness all by itself. In this recording I've chosen some of his stories that did this so well and succeed in leaving lingering hair raising memories with me to enjoy all through my life: The Telltale Heart; The Masque of the Red Death; The Black Cat; The Raven and the Casque of Amontillado. I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I did narrating them.
