Considered to be the least characteristic of Melville's stories, somewhat resembling the work of Nathaniel Hawthorne and Edgar Allan Poe, The Bell-Tower is a dark literary work that explores, though never fully reveals, its central mystery. An eccentric artist and architect dreams up plans for a magnificent bell tower. After receiving approval from the city, he happily begins construction. When city residents begin to notice strange occurrences associated with the project, their complaints eventually force the city magistrates to investigate. Showing the magistrates around the tower, the artist proudly shows off his work and answers their questions, but one curiosity remains unanswered-what lies beneath the shroud in the bell-tower?

"We have your wife and daughter," a man said over the phone to magician Max Starfire. Who sat alone in his dark dressing room in his theatre.
"Max! why so serious?" said Blake Fire doing a Joker impression seeing his worried face as he walked in the room. Blake was his partner in the magic act.
"Shut up, Blake this is serious! Go away!" Max snapped back,
"We can use him too," the voice on the phone said, "tell him to stay we will use him too,".
"Blake please don't go! They need you!" Max said.
    "Who needs me?" asked Blake.
"The people who say they have Astra and little Astry," Max burst out.
"Have they any proof they have them?" asked Blake.
"Nothing but their word so far," said Max,
"Put it on speaker phone I'll close the door," Blake said.
Max turned on speaker phone and Blake closed the door.

Robert Sheehan is one of Ireland's brightest stars of the screen, both at home and abroad. Best known for his roles in Love/Hate and The Umbrella Academy, Sheehan has received widespread critical acclaim for his acting talentIn his debut collection of short stories, Robert Sheehan disappears into characters, challenging the complacencies of everyday experience, often from entirely unexpected angles.Informed by the author's peripatetic life, Disappearing Act reflects on the absurdity of human behaviour. Sheehan delves deep into his characters' streams of self-talk and self-imposed delusions, exploring the dark impulses that lurk below the shiny surfaces of many outwardly normal lives.Dark, provocative and often humorous, the collection will stay with the listener long after the book is finished.“A whacked-out kaleidoscopic miasma of delightful abandon and fun … you've seen Sheehan act – now watch him dazzle.” PATRICK MCCABE“A dazzlingly eclectic collection of short stories” BEN ELTON“Lots of great stories and voices. Reminded me of Irvine Welsh's short stories” FRANKIE BOYLE

These stories can be read at parties and gatherings to create a good conversation. People can make comments and have a laugh. Some of the stories are a bit silly but funny with a lot of intelligent humour thrown in for a good mix. Appealing to children and young adults, middle-aged and elderly people so all people can have a laugh, from eight to one hundred and eight all people are included. I hope you all have a laugh and don’t forget to share the laughter with friends.
It would be stretching my brain too far to write one hundred stories. I can think of some funny bits I have already written; they make me laugh and they might make you chuckle too. Like the zookeepers who found a job in the Air Force and now dispatches missiles. Or the girl bungee jumping in a dress and G-string, or the streaker who put his clothes back on and left the building. There are the stories about: the astronauts who were left to wander the universe for eternity, the horse who had his stripes painted on like a zebra, the monkey who packed his bags and moved back to Africa and the aliens who survived their crash landing and are walking the Earth today. These are just a few of the stories that make me laugh and there are many more!
There are 55 stories, I am sure something will give a giggle, a deep chuckle sprinkled with some hilarious laughs!

From America’s favorite storyteller: A rich selection of twenty-five tales by the author of “The Gift of the Magi.”    Writing under the pseudonym O. Henry, William Sydney Porter was an incredibly prolific and popular master of the short story in the early twentieth century. His stories are known for being witty, playful, full of plot twists, and marked by surprise endings. The author had a special fondness for New York City and a deep interest and appreciation for the ordinary folk who populate his timeless tales.   First published in 1911, his eleventh collection features such classics as “The Duplicity of the Hargraves,” about a destitute Confederate major and his spinster daughter in Washington, DC, and their encounter with a vaudeville actor; as well as “Makes the Whole World Kin,” about a thief and a sick old man who form a surprising bond. Once entered, O. Henry’s world becomes an unforgettable destination, and over a century later, readers continue to return—again and again.   Sixes and Sevens includes “The Duplicity of Hargraves,” “Makes the Whole World Kin,” “The Last of the Troubadours,” “Witches’ Loaves,” “The Adventures of Shamrock Jolnes,” “A Ghost of a Chance,” “New York by Camp Fire Light,” “Ulysses and the Dogman,” and more.  This ebook has been professionally proofread to ensure accuracy and readability on all devices.
