Summary

I fell into private investigating by accident, after a monster killed my boy Henry. Three days later, I found my vengeance, then I turned my new-found skills toward helping other folks solve their own supernatural problems.

Now, my first and only best friend was knocking at my door with a mystery on his hands, a mystery the police couldn't solve. Seems something was tearing up the docks out in Greenwood Cove, disturbing the muckity mucks something fierce.

I was the only one willing to look beyond the normal and figure out what was really going on in the water, and let me tell you: I ain't never backed down when a monster come a-calling.

A terrifying story of spiritual reincarnation and transference that grabs the listener from the start and never lets go. It plays out very much in the style of psychological horror master Edgar Alan Poe: a sinister atmosphere, a character in distress, scary and inexplicable things happening... The narrator as a troubled and slightly sadistic young man is forced to live with his grandmother. Resenting the situation, he takes it out on her blue eyed cat. Soon both grandmother and cat die. Seventeen years later our narrator meets a beautiful, young, intensely blue eyed woman that becomes his wife; initially all is well; but when they move into the grandmother's house, the young bride starts to look and behave more and more like grandma's cat; seeking vengeance.

The bestselling novel that inspired Mervyn LeRoy's classic horror film about the little girl who can get away with anything—even murder.
There's something special about eight-year-old Rhoda Penmark. With her carefully plaited hair and her sweet cotton dresses, she's the very picture of old-fashioned innocence. But when their neighborhood suffers a series of terrible accidents, her mother begins to wonder: Why do bad things seem to happen when little Rhoda is around?
Originally published in 1954, William March's final novel was an instant bestseller and National Book Award finalist before it was adapted for the stage and made into a 1956 film. The Bad Seed is an indelible portrait of an evil that wears an innocent face, one which still resonates in popular culture today.
