Women have always been seen as monsters. Men from Aristotle to Freud have insisted that women are freakish creatures, capable of immense destruction.

Maybe they are. And maybe that's a good thing....

Sady Doyle, hailed as "smart, funny, and fearless" by the Boston Globe, takes listeners on a tour of the female dark side, from the biblical Lilith to Dracula's Lucy Westenra, from the T-Rex in Jurassic Park to the teen witches of The Craft. She illuminates the women who have shaped our nightmares: Serial killer Ed Gein's "domineering" mother Augusta; exorcism casualty Anneliese Michel, starving herself to death to quell her demons; author Mary Shelley, dreaming her dead child back to life.

These monsters embody patriarchal fear of women, and illustrate the violence with which men enforce traditionally feminine roles. They also speak to the primal threat of a woman who takes back her power. In a dark and dangerous world, Dead Blondes and Bad Mothers asks women to look to monsters for the ferocity we all need to survive.

    A 2-book combo with lots of information:<p.Book 1:
     Influence
Even if we don’t know it or do it on purposes, we are always influencing others. We influence people by the way we dress, look, talk, or behave ourselves on the Internet. In this audiobook, you will find out what it takes to increase the influence you have on others, and to really know what you’re doing. Many people don’t. They just go through the day without wondering what effect their words and actions have on others. But you won’t make that same mistake. Learn the secrets inside.
    Book 2: Alpha Male
So many men miss the point! They show off, they do everything they can to get results so that good-looking women approve of what they do, and they still don’t get the attention they seek. What are they doing wrong? I was like this, too. I never understood how a guy could show up and immediately have all kinds of women surrounding him. After all, I was nice, respectful, and sincerely interested in women. What did that guy have that I didn’t? Well, in this guide, you’ll see it the right way. You’ll understand the God-given or evolutionary (whatever you believe) traits that primates have with which they can have what and who they want and dominate the pack.

Combining the ethical clarity of Jonathan Safran Foer’s Eating Animals with the disquieting vision of Alan Weissman’s bestseller The World Without Us, a thought-provoking, entertaining exploration of a future where animal consumption is a thing of the past.

Though increasing numbers of people know that eating meat is detrimental to our planet’s health, many still can’t be convinced to give up eating meat. But how can we change behavior when common arguments and information aren’t working?
Acclaimed anthropologist Roanne Van Voorst changes the dialogue. In Once Upon a Time We Ate Animals, she shifts the focus from the present looking forward to the future looking back—imagining a world in which most no longer use  animals for food, clothing, or other items. By shifting the viewpoint, she offers a clear and compelling vision of what it means to live in a world without meat.
A massive shift is already taking place—everything van Voorst covers in this book has already been invented and is being used today by individuals and small organizations worldwide.
Hopeful and persuasive, Once Upon a Time We Ate Animals offers a tantalizing vision of what is not only possible but perhaps inevitable.
This book offers a hopeful and persuasive vision of a future where animal consumption is a thing of the past, combining the ethical clarity of Jonathan Safran Foer’s Eating Animals with the disquieting vision of Alan Weissman’s bestseller The World Without Us.

This WWII history examines an early British commando raid on Nazi occupied France through extensive interviews with survivors from both sides. On March 28th, 1942, a combined force of British Commandos and Royal Navy disembarked for the Atlantic coast of Nazi-occupied France. Their mission, Operation Chariot, was a daring amphibious attack on a fortified drydock in the port of Saint-Nazaire. The obsolete destroyer HMS Campbeltown was packed with delayed-action explosives and rammed into the gates of Normandie Dock. Though the dock was destroyed, the underequipped raiding party faced an overwhelming counter-attack. Though the St. Nazaire raid was a significant event in the evolution of special warfare tactics, it has not been studied in detail. Historian James Dorrian draws on interviews with more than a hundred survivors, both British and German, to present this remarkable account. Storming St. Nazaire covers all aspects of the engagement, including the final ironic incident that resulted in more German casualties than the main battle itself.

American soldiers serve willingly. They risk their lives so the rest of us can be safe. The one small thing they ask, though, is that they not be sent into harm's way unless it is absolutely necessary. But after being lied to about weapons of mass destruction and about the connection between al Qaeda and Iraq; after being forced by stop-loss orders to extend their deployment; after being undertrained, underequipped, and overworked long after George Bush declared Iraq "Mission Accomplished," these soldiers have something to say. From his famous 2003 Oscar acceptance speech to his record-breaking documentary Fahrenheit 9/11, Michael Moore has been an outspoken critic of the Bush administration and the war in Iraq. But in this book, Moore gives the spotlight to the real heroes of protest: the men and women who have fought in Iraq and want the American public to know how they feel about their mission and their commander in chief. Moore also fields letters from veterans of other wars and mothers, wives, and siblings of our heir anger and frustration, their tears and pain, and their hopes and prayers. Impassioned, accessible, and moving, these are letters that reveal the true hearts and minds of the men, women, and families on the front line.
