Sinopse

Prosecutors Power explores the complex world of legal enforcement, focusing on the individuals who confront corruption, corporate crime, and politically sensitive investigations. It offers a rare glimpse into the motivations and strategies employed by prosecutors, highlighting the personal sacrifices they make in their pursuit of justice. The book argues that effective legal enforcement hinges not only on strong laws but also on the integrity and resilience of the prosecutors themselves. Examining the careers of specific individuals, Prosecutors Power reveals how these qualities translate into tangible results, fostering accountability and deterring misconduct.

The book traces the evolution of prosecutorial power and presents important context by exploring the rise of global financial networks and the increasing complexity of corporate structures. These factors have made prosecuting white-collar crime particularly challenging. By drawing on court documents, investigative reports, and personal interviews, Prosecutors Power connects to political science, sociology, and economics, providing a nuanced understanding of the challenges prosecutors face.

Structured to provide a comprehensive understanding, the book begins by introducing core concepts and then moves into major points, exploring how prosecutors tackle white-collar crime, public corruption, and cases with international implications. Ultimately, the book examines the implications of these cases for legal reform, offering practical recommendations for strengthening prosecutorial independence and effectiveness.

Are you trapped in a narcissistic relationship and unsure how to break free and reclaim your sense of self?
Narcissists and empaths can be the most toxic combination one can ever come across. An empath is a person with a strong need to feel compassion and empathy for others, with the grandiose ability to tune into others’ emotions. This makes empaths vulnerable to the “energy vampires” that they inevitably attract, due to their natural ability to provide for others.
Does any of these situations sound familiar?
    - You're constantly feeling emotionally exhausted, as if your partner is draining your energy.
    - Your needs and feelings seem always to be sidelined or ignored.
    - You find yourself walking on eggshells, afraid of triggering your partner's anger or criticism.
    - You've started doubting your own perceptions and feelings, wondering if you're the one at fault.
    - You feel isolated from friends and family because of your relationship.
    - Your partner oscillates between charming affection and cold indifference.
    - You're experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression, linked to your relationship dynamics.
    - You keep hoping for a change in your partner, clinging to the good moments, despite the pain.
Here's a little sneak preview of what you’ll get:
    - Narcissistic Relationships
    - Psychic Abilities
    - Guided Meditations to Avoid Manipulation
    - Negative Energies and Toxic Relationships
    - How to Deal with Narcissists

A práve to nám v slovenčine a angličtine umožní táto audioknižka Dobrí a zlí hrdinovia, EN, SK. The harrowing true story of the abuses two boys suffered at a Florida reform school and how they came together fifty years later to confront their attackers.

“[The Boys of the Dark] reads seamlessly… . . . A worthy exploration of a regrettably long-lasting true-crime nightmare.” —Kirkus Reviews

Michael O’McCarthy and Robert W. Straley were teens when they were termed “incorrigible youth” by authorities and ordered to attend the Florida School for Boys. They discovered in Marianna, the “City of Southern Charm,” an immaculately groomed campus that looked more like an idyllic university than a reform school. But hidden behind the gates of the Florida School for Boys was a hell unlike any they could have imagined. The school’s guards and administrators acted as their jailers and tormentors. The boys allegedly bore witness to assault, rape, and possibly even murder.

For fifty years, both men—and countless others like them—carried their torment in silence. But a series of unlikely events brought O’McCarthy, now a successful rights activist, and Straley together, and they became determined to expose the Florida School for Boys for what they believed it to be: a youth prison with a century-long history of abuse. They embarked upon a campaign that would change their lives and inspire others.

Robin Gaby Fisher, a Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist and author of the New York Times–bestselling After the Fire, collaborates with Straley and O’McCarthy to offer a riveting account of their harrowing ordeal. The book goes beyond the story of the two men to expose the truth about a century-old institution and a town that adopted a Nuremberg-like code of secrecy and a government that failed to address its own wrongdoing. What emerges is a tale of strength, resolve, and vindication in the face of the kinds of terror few can imagine.

“Haunting and disturbing. The voices of the victims will forever touch my heart. To turn a deaf ear to this type of injustice is to give permission for it to continue. As a people, as a society, we should be outraged.” —Jennifer Thompson, coauthor of Picking Cotton

“This deeply moving story is highly recommended to readers of heart-wrenching memoirs, 20th-century American studies, or true crime.” —Library Journal

The Byzantine Empire existed for over a thousand years, with a history spanning from the division of the Roman Empire in 395 until the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople in 1453. It was formed from the previous Eastern Roman Empire, and during its long existence, the Byzantine inhabitants were very proud to call themselves Romans.
However, many things changed during the long lifespan of the Byzantine Empire, starting with its Hellenization in the 6th century. The use of the Latin language diminished and Greek took its place, while the typical Roman culture gave way to a more Hellenistic one. The Hellenization of Byzantium was detrimental to the relationship with the Holy Roman Empire, and the Christian world from that point would be split in two. The subsequent strengthening of the Orthodox Church caused many civil wars and conflicts to arise during the centuries, which shattered and reshaped the territory time after time. By the end of the Byzantine Empire’s existence, the old age had weakened both the state and church, making it an easy target for invading forces.
The most notable invaders were the the Turkish-speaking Seljuks, led through a series of battles by Kutalmishouglu Suleiman, who supported different usurpers against the Byzantine emperor. The expansion of the Seljuks was so successful that when Suleiman died, he had put all of Bithynia under his control as well as several important harbor towns along the shores on the Asian side of Bosphorus. With that accomplishment, he had managed to separate the Byzantines living in Anatolia from their emperor in Constantinople. This immediately weakened the unity of the Byzantine Empire.
