Sinopsis

In "Brown on Resolution," C. S. Forester delves into the complexities of naval warfare through the lens of a gripping narrative centered on the British merchant ship Resolution. Forester's adept storytelling encapsulates the unique tensions of maritime conflict during the early 19th century, showcasing vivid depictions of life at sea, the psychology of sailors, and the morally ambiguous decisions faced by those at war. His narrative style is both atmospheric and immersive, reflecting the historical realities of the Napoleonic era while engaging with themes of duty, honor, and the unforeseen consequences of human actions. C. S. Forester, an accomplished British author, is best known for his Horatio Hornblower series, which has influenced the genre of historical naval fiction. Forester's experiences as a war correspondent during World War II and his understanding of maritime history deeply informed his writing, allowing him to create authentic characters and intricate plots. This duality of experiences—both on land in conflict and at sea—shapes the narrative dynamics of "Brown on Resolution," providing readers with a poignant exploration of maritime bravery and ethical dilemmas of war. Recommended for enthusiasts of historical fiction and naval history alike, "Brown on Resolution" is a profound exploration of the human spirit amidst the backdrop of brutal warfare. Willa Sibert Cather had Welsh ancestry but like her parents Charles and Mary, was born in Virginia, on 7th December 1873. Despite strong roots in the community, Willa was 9, when the family moved to Nebraska, to work the rich soil and avoid TB of which there were numerous outbreaks in Virginia.
The vastness and drama of the Nebraska prairie and its’ extreme weather conditions as well as the many diverse cultures of the local families proved to be a major influence on her and can be evidenced in much of her later writing.
Her first writing was for the local journal when she was at the University of Nebraska and later became the managing editor of the student newspaper.
In 1896 she obtained work for a woman’s magazine in Pittsburgh and soon after became a regular contributor to the Pittsburgh Leader and wrote poetry and short stories for the Library, another local publication.
Her first collection of short stories, ‘The Troll Garden’, was published in 1905 and contains several of her most famous including ‘A Wagner Matinee’ and ‘Paul's Case.’ As a writer Cather was now taking immense strides forward.
Between 1913 and 1918 Cather wrote her Prairie Trilogy: ‘O Pioneers!’, ‘The Song of the Lark’, and ‘My Ántonia’ and in 1922 the Pulitizer Prize was hers for her novel ‘One of Ours’ set during WWI.
Acknowledged as one of America's greatest writers’ further honours flowed. In 1943 she was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. The following year Cather received the gold medal for fiction from the National Institute of Arts and Letters.
A determinedly private person, Cather destroyed many old drafts, personal papers, and letters. Her will would also restrict the ability of scholars to quote from personal papers that remained.
On 24th April 1947, Willa Siebert Cather died of a cerebral haemorrhage at her Manhattan home. She was 73.

Fast, sharp, and tinged with irony, Just a Bit Too Fast is a classic slice of late-1920s pulp crime fiction from Hal Moore—where bluff, disguise, and nerve matter more than careful planning.
When a quiet branch bank is held up by a gun-wielding “old woman,” two plainclothes detectives—one local, one visiting—are left staring at an empty counter and a fast-disappearing getaway car. The robber, the notorious Thought-and-a-half Morgan, has already slipped the net once, and the chase that follows cuts quickly through rain-dark streets, bad leads, and a hunch rooted in earlier intelligence.
The hunt ends not in brilliance, but in a tense, shadowed ambush inside a shabby downtown hideout, where timing, luck, and a single misaligned flashlight beam decide the outcome. In the aftermath, one detective takes credit for flawless tactics—but the truth, quietly admitted, tells a different story.
Narrated with grit and restraint by Mike Polischuk, Just a Bit Too Fast delivers a lean, street-smart crime tale that captures the spirit of early pulp fiction: hard edges, fast movement, and victories that owe as much to chance as to courage.

Inside every body lies a story.
    In every scar, a memory.
And in every silence, a possibility for healing.
The Surgeon’s Hands is not a medical memoir—it’s a meditation on presence, precision, and what it truly means to witness someone. Through ten quietly luminous chapters, Maurizio—a gifted and intuitive surgeon—guides us through consultations that become rituals, procedures that begin with reverence, and encounters where touch transcends technique.
This is not a tale of transformation by scalpel alone.
It is a short novel about the sacred in every pause, and the voice beneath every wound.
For surgeons, it is a mirror.
    For patients, a refuge.
    For readers, an unfolding.
    Come closer.
    You are already enough.
