Sinossi

An Adventure is an intriguing foray into the unexplained, a collection themed around the mysterious occurrences and supernatural phenomena experienced by C. A. E. Moberly and Eleanor F. Jourdain. This anthology blends elements of ghostly apparitions and the uncanny with reflections on historical and psychological contexts, offering readers a diverse and rich tapestry of literary styles ranging from narrative reportage to speculative reflection. The stories stand out for their atmospheric depth and the ability to evoke a time-worn sense of wonder, encouraging readers to question the boundaries between reality and illusion. The editors, Moberly and Jourdain, bring a fascinating duo's perspective to the anthology, drawing from their own experiences as educators and writers steeped in the early 20th-century fascination with the paranormal. Their collective work is deeply embedded in historical inquiry and cultural analysis, bridging the gap between Edwardian skepticism and a burgeoning interest in spiritualism. Together, the authors' backgrounds in academia and curious exploration serve to authenticate and intensify the thematic explorations presented within the anthology. Recommending An Adventure is to endorse a journey through the esoteric and enigmatic, providing a unique lens into a world perceived yet unquantified. This collection holds educational value not only through its exploration of the otherworldly but also through its multidisciplinary approach, inviting readers to question, reflect, and immerse themselves in each tale. It is a dialogue not only between the authors but also between different eras, challenging our understanding and highlighting the rich history of supernatural literature.

Innocent young women, a sadistic serial killing duo and … the true story as revealed by the lead detective.

Australia’s most prolific serial sexual killers met in prison. They were a complete contrast: Christopher Worrell, the charismatic psychopathic youngster; and James Miller, the older and socially awkward loner. For Miller, it was love at first sight. They developed an ominous sexual bond – proving that opposites can attract – and then kill.

Once free, the inseparable tag team slayed as many people as notorious Australian serial killer Ivan Milat. Whereas Milat took a year to murder seven victims, the duo achieved the same in seven short weeks … the last four killed in only six days.
The frenzied carnage only stopped when Worrell died in a car accident. So ended the life of Australia’s own BTK. Like America’s Dennis Radar, Worrell bound, tortured and killed – because he could.

Revealed for the first time is the full account of the victims, the serial killers and the lead detective, a relentless investigator who broke the silence of the surviving murderer, the only person who knew the full truth … But was Miller’s truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

When Ramachandra Guha began following the game in the early 1960s, India was utterly marginal to the world of cricket: the country still hadn't won a Test match overseas; by the time he joined the Board of Control for Cricket in India, fifty years later, India had become world cricket's sole superpower.
Cricket ka Commonwealth, the Hindi translation of the popular and critically acclaimed The Commonwealth of Cricket, is a first-person account of this astonishing transformation. The book traces the entire arc of cricket in India, across all levels at which the game is played: school, college, club, state, country. It presents vivid portraits of local heroes, provincial icons, and international stars.
Cast as a work of literature, Cricket ka Commonwealth is keenly informed by the author's scholarly training, the stories and sketches narrated against a wider canvas of social and historical change. The book blends memoir, anecdote, reportage and political critique, providing a rich, insightful and rivetingly readable account of this greatest of games as played in the country that has most energetically made this sport its own.

I congratulate the 100 successful new authors who have contributed to Seniors' Stories Volume 11 who embraced the theme, Then and Now inspiring the stories within.
Your submissions covered our Australian culture both past and present with your historical tales and current yarns creating a rich patchwork of topics that evoke nostalgia and for our newer Australian readers, to learn how life was in our country since the Wars.
The stories have exposed the many styles we have come through in all our walks of life. How we coped without technology and embraced it as it developed. How families in difficult circumstances took risks and with friendship support worked their way through the situations and in particular with food shortages all sorts of sharing and bulk-buying schemes emerged with neighbours. Our mothers were such creative cooks, making family meals for us from whatever limits were available. And of course our ancestors were all such capable seamstresses, sewing, knitting, darning … was there anything our mothers couldn’t do? I particularly enjoyed some of the stories which shared how family breakdowns were supported by other family members, sometimes melding families, so all members could just easily move on with their lives.
Expressing and sharing these stories about how we managed then, as compared to how we live our lives now has created an important legacy of history for readers to recall or learn and enjoy.
Congratulations to every writer who is in Volume 11, many for your debut publication, others have been around once or twice in earlier volumes but you all deserve our gratitude, along with Seniors Card, for your worthy stories for our pleasure to read.

An A-Z of Neglected Writers of the Anglophone Caribbean makes a major contribution to providing a fuller picture of the region's rich literary history. It both restores our knowledge of writers whose lives and work have slipped out of view while heralding others whose work has never been properly recognised. Offering a fascinating insight into the worlds of these 'lost' writers, this A-Z also provides future researchers with a comprehensive bibliography of their forgotten works. An inspiring reclaiming of writers, especially women, from Antigua, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad: those who were in the wrong place at the wrong time; those disregarded by the establishment; those whose personal or professional lives stole their writing lives; those who suffered discrimination; those who wrote about the "wrong" things. All are celebrated in this brilliantly researched and compiled book.

Anchor in the Sea of Time An -...

    Stephen Harrigan

The author of the New York Times bestselling novel The Gates of the Alamo, the sweeping Texas history Big Wonderful Thing, and decades of incisive journalism, Stephen Harrigan is an adept writer skilled in crafting memorable characters. From this singular voice now comes a collection of essays tackling the most personal, and yet most expansive, themes of all: identity, memory, and time itself.

An Anchor in the Sea of Time unfolds individual stories but also a larger narrative about the development and distortions of history. In one essay, a painting on his grandparents' wall is seared in Harrigan's young mind. In another, a group trip to Vietnam stirs up a sobering confrontation with class privilege among Americans who fought there and others, like Harrigan, who did their best not to. The award-winning essay "Off Course" reflects on the father Harrigan never met. And Harrigan’s reporting about the Karankawas, an Indigenous group from the Texas coast once thought to be extinct, takes listeners deep into the recesses of collective forgetting and offers glimpses of the possibility of recovery. A vivid encounter with lost selves, vanished worlds, and futures yet unrealized, An Anchor in the Sea of Time is perhaps the most personal book yet from this beloved writer.
