Sinopsis

A global nuclear holocaust. A vicious serial killer stalking the streets of Paris. A mystery in Mexico.

This collection from award-winning novelist and screenwriter Brian L. Porter showcases some of his finest short stories. The title piece, After Armageddon, depicts an aftermath of a global nuclear holocaust, with a surprising twist in the tale. The Voice of Anton Bouchard, soon to be made into a motion picture by Thunderball Films, tells the chilling story of 'The Butcher Beast', a vicious serial killer who stalks the streets of Paris one long, hot summer.

The Devil You Know takes us to Mexico, where police captain Juan Morales recounts his involvement in the case of a number of missing choirboys. The follow-up novel, Avenue of the Dead, is available for Kindle on Amazon. In Red Sky in the Morning, a nuclear submarine surfaces from a long and arduous patrol to find the sky has turned red, all communication channels are dead, and it appears the crew are all alone on the vast expanse of the ocean. R.I.G.S and Alien Abduction take the reader into the world of science fiction, while the world of the paranormal is featured in The Festival.

These and many others are contained in this exciting collection, which also features a guest appearance by horror author Carole Gill, who contributes her short story, Raised.

A “brave, accomplished and utterly compelling” short story collection from the National Book Award–finalist author of Zig Zag Wanderer (Kirkus Reviews).   Deploying a seemingly unlimited range of subject and setting, Bell’s latest collection of stories are as inventive as they are revelatory. From a monastic Chinese mouse who ponders his lot in life to the aching frustrations of a former drug addict attempting to connect to her son, Bell continues to refine his renowned craft on the characters who fall under his compassionate gaze.   Drawn by Bell’s command of language and voice, readers follow his cast of characters from Manhattan to the French Riviera to the American South to London, where the homeless, the barking mad, and the everyday saints are all revealed as unforgettably human in these sometimes poignant, sometimes devastating stories.  “The world these 10 stories conjure is a shifty, dangerous place, requiring of its inhabitants small acts of daily heroism. . . .A humane and mature book, the work of an important and talented writer.” —The New York Times Book Review  “Presents a crystal-clear vision of humanity that disturbs and intrigues.” —Library Journal

The Wisdom of Father Brown is the second book in the series of cases involving the eccentric yet competent detective. Invented by renowned author, essayist and journalist G. K. Chesterton, Father Brown is an amateur sleuth whose day job involves preaching to his congregation at church. Chesterton himself was a committed Christian who wrote volumes of essays and fiction surrounding faith and spirituality, and would base his Father Brown stories upon a priest - Father John O'Connor - he himself knew. Despite its intention as a parody, the Father Brown books became a popular hit in early 20th century Britain as well as the USA. Today they remain a well-considered and much-liked classic series which fans of detective fiction return to more than a century after their original publication. Characterised by his easily digestible style, ready use and exposure of paradox, and his use of wit and humour to advance argument, Chesterton's fiction and non-fiction writings on the topics of human behaviour and wider society remain relevant and poignant to this day.
