Summary

Booth Tarkington was born on July 29, 1869 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is one of only three novelists to win the Pulitzer Prize more than once. When you look through the quality of his work it is easy to understand why. The Magnificent Ambersons, Alice Adams, Penrod, Penrod And Sam – all classics. The Penrod novels depict a typical upper-middle class American boy of 1910 vintage, revealing a fine, bookish sense of American humor. At one time, his Penrod series was as well known andregarded as Twain’s Huckleberry Finn. Much of Tarkington's work consists of satirical and closely observed studies of the American class system and its foibles. Coming as he did from a patrician Midwestern family that lost much of its wealth after the Panic of 1873 the foundations for that outlook are clear. Today, he is best known for his novel The Magnificent Ambersons which contrasted the decline of the "old money" Amberson dynasty with the rise of "new money" industrial tycoons in the years between the American Civil War and World War I. In this volume you have an opportunity to read one his plays, The Gibson Upright

The story Charles Dickens might have written after drinking too much gin…
Follow half-orphan Pip's extraordinary exploits with sisters Pippa and Poppy and best friend Harry Biscuit, as they attempt to escape the calculating clutches of the dastardly Mr Gently Benevolent, defeat the hideous Hardthrasher siblings, and deflect disaster at every turn! Will evil be vanquished by virtue? Can love triumph over hate?
Mark Evans' stage play Bleak Expectations is a hilarious, chaotic caper, featuring dastardly villains, preposterous names, pulse-quickening romances, heart-rending death scenes, and definitely, probably, hopefully a happy ending.
Based on the award-winning BBC Radio 4 series, the play opened at The Watermill Theatre, Newbury, in 2022, directed by Caroline Leslie. It transferred to the Criterion Theatre in London's West End in 2023, where it featured a medley of many well-known actors and comedians.
It offers rich opportunities to amateur theatre companies looking for a gloriously daft Dickensian romp which will have their audiences joyfully transported and begging for more.

From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same, the Lord's name is to be praised. Psalms 113:3
Wilson heeds the Bible call to "praise the Lord" in this joyful Jesus tribute, opus, and psalm. With the Son shining on the pages, sojourn God mind, celebrating the wonders of divine imagination. PSALM is book three in Wilson's "poetry novel" trilogy collection, which also includes, EXIT, and ROOMS. Along with the other two poetry books in the trilogy, Wilson has recorded PSALM with music by POETRY BAND available as an audiobook, and forthcoming video production (along with EXIT and ROOMS albums). "By means of sounds of spiritual music, and its accompanying expressions of spiritual speech is a bold, and daring, and most masterly conception that the public has embraced and approved with avidity." - William Blake. Former President Clinton wrote the band, "the new album is great!" http://www.poetryband.com/Clinton_Letter_2007.htm, "The best art is novel and new..." William Blake
