Sinopse

A young man with an Oedipus complex in 1930s Dresden, Hermann Becht loses himself in the social and political motives of his time.

His father is in the SS, his mother is Belarusian, and his girlfriend is Jewish. After a brutal clash with his father, Hermann and his mother flee to Paris. Swept along by a maelstrom of events, Hermann ends up as a spy for the British in the Polish extermination camp Treblinka.

The trauma of what he sees in this realm of death intensifies his pessimistic outlook on humanity. In Switzerland, the famous psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung tries to free Hermann of his frightening schizophrenia, but fails to unravel the power of the young man’s emotions, especially his intense hate for his father.

What follows is a tragic chain of events, leading to Hermann’s ultimate revenge on his father: the apocalyptic bombing of Dresden.

THE LONG FAREWELL is an unforgettable exploration of fascism’s lure and the roots of the Holocaust. More than ever, the novel is a mirror for our modern times.

Lilah is back home after two weeks away from the big, bad beast that is New York City, and with Kane by her side. The minute the chopper touches down, her phone rings. It's a local medical examiner who has been stalking her online, but then, she soon learns, so is half the city.

Seems an online forum has popped up to follow Lilah, her serial killer mentor, and her drug lord husband. Call Lilah irritated as Kane is no drug lord, despite the cartel's wishes that he follow in his father's footsteps, her mentor is dead, and no one knows but those who buried the body. She needs the attention to go away, and now.

The worst part, or maybe it's the best is there's yet another serial killer on the loose who's mimicking horror movie killers. Now Lilah has someone to take her anger out on, and arrest, not kill, because good girls don't kill. But then, who said Lilah was a good girl?

It's a truth universally acknowledged that a genuinely top-notch party must be in want of a theme. Allie Catt, caterer and personal chef in the beautiful mountain community of Asheville, North Carolina, has devised a winning formula by using her clients' favorite books as inspiration. Her first themed event is based on Pride and Prejudice (Allie's cat, Darcy, approves), and it's so popular that soon she has grand ideas for future parties based on Rebecca, The Great Gatsby, Babette's Feast, and more.

Business is booming, and a rival catering company is fuming. But there's a sting in the tale when the aunt of one of Allie's clients and best friends, Tegan, is murdered. Tegan is the victim's sole heir, and quickly becomes the main suspect. Allie has no doubts about her friend’s innocence, but how to prove it?

Once again, her love of literature comes to the rescue, and with some guidance from her favorite fictional detectives, including Hercule Poirot and Sherlock Holmes, Allie sifts through the clues.

With a little luck—and the kind of pluck that would make Elizabeth Bennett proud—she may be able to stop a killer from serving up a second course of murder . . .

The Adventure of the Lion’s Mane is one of Sherlock Holmes’s most unusual late-career cases—told entirely from Holmes’s own perspective after his retirement to the Sussex coast. When a local schoolmaster collapses on the beach, gasping the mysterious words “Lion’s Mane,” Holmes is drawn into a baffling investigation with no clear suspect, no human culprit, and clues that defy ordinary logic. As Holmes analyzes strange wounds, missing timelines, and the secret lives of seaside residents, he uncovers a deadly natural phenomenon as dangerous as any human adversary. Atmospheric, sharply observed, and rich with coastal tension, this story reveals Holmes’s brilliant deductive power in a rare solo narrative that showcases his mind at its most introspective and precise. Perfect for fans of classic mystery, detective fiction, and the legendary world of Sherlock Holmes.

Newly widowed, Victoria Blanc built an empire in Louisiana, transforming “The Magnolia” from a struggling plantation to one envied throughout the South. Her wealth and privilege protected her from scorn and ridicule. Victoria operated her southern empire proudly and in defiance of the social mores and norms men in Louisiana tried to impose upon her.
One night, her reign would come to an end in violence and bloodshed at the hands of her rivals, bothered by Victoria’s presence and desire for change. Her murder marked not the end, but the beginning of a new chapter in her legacy. For nearly a century and a half, she waited for the right moment to return.
Her heirs, inheriting the land, vowed to never live in the home out of respect for her death. “The Magnolia” remained closed to the public for decades before the family decided to open it up for tours with one requirement: no one stay in the home overnight. One tour, unfortunately, had no choice. Their driver missing, blinding rains, flash floods, and violent winds would force them to take refuge in the home. They are quickly brought face to face with the horrors and violence of “The Magnolia.”
