A House to Let is a short story originally published in 1858 in the Christmas edition of Dickens' Household Words magazine. Each of the contributors wrote a chapter (stories within a story, or, in the case of Adelaide Anne Procter, poetry) and the story was edited by Dickens, who also wrote the first and last chapters with Wilkie Collins. The plot concerns an elderly woman, Sophonisba, who notices signs of life in a supposedly empty dilapidated house (the eponymous "House to Let") opposite her own, and employs the efforts of an elderly admirer, Jabez Jarber, and her servant, Trottle, to discover what is happening within. The Roaring Girl is a rip-roaring Jacobean comedy co-written by Thomas Middleton and Thomas Dekker and first published in 1611. The play is a fictionalized dramatization of the life of Mary Frith, known as "Moll Cutpurse", a woman who had gained a reputation as a virago in the early 17th century. (The term "roaring girl" was adapted from the slang term "roaring boy", which was applied to a young man who caroused publicly, brawled, and committed petty crimes.) The play combines the exploits of the cross-dressed Moll with the amorous adventures of a trio of merchants' wives, and the forbidden romance between Sebastian Wengrave and Mary Fitzallard. An eclectic collection from Roy Blount Jr., master of American humor writingI’ll tell you what kind of book I believe in: one that makes people say, at first sight, what the first person who ever saw a camel must have said: “What in the world is that?” And then, after a while, “Yet it seems to fit together some way.”In this laugh-a-minute assortment of essays, travel writing, poems, and even the occasional crossword puzzle, Roy Blount Jr. covers sixty-four different subjects, all unified by his trademark humor. “Tan” is a personal essay about Blount’s lifelong battle with—sometimes for and sometimes against—that elusive summer glow. “Wild Fish Ripped My Flesh” chronicles his misadventures navigating the Amazon River. And “Lit Demystified Quickly” is a tongue-in-cheek poem about larger-than-life literary figures such as James Joyce, William Faulkner, and Walt Whitman.Camels Are Easy, Comedy’s Hard is a classic compendium of the wisecracks and wisdom for which Blount is renowned.

This is a gently self-deprecating, ironic and sadly humorous tale of a widower's last shot at happiness in love... John, a well to do and reasonably well preserved (according to himself) middle aged widower, falls for a much younger person. A person while delightful, not entirely unproblematic: she is the orphaned daughter of his very first love...

The story is a light-hearted comedy that chronicles an affluent yet eccentric animal lover's desperation to win recognition for his animal husbandry skill at any cost. Adding frenzy to the madness is the opportunist yet dedicated suitor who wants to marry the rich man's only daughter, overcoming the barrier of his low disposable income - a demerit as flagged off by the rich man. The hilarious yet counter-intuitive proposition paves the way to a concoction of hearty laughter and a battle of wits to break the jinx in one's favor.
Savor the sweetness of light-hearted fun and banter to lift your stressed minds in the company of the legendary humorist - Rajshekhar Basu alias Parashuram or Parashurama or Parshuram.
