This story was published in 1893, in a bad decade for the United States and also a difficult time for Twain personally, as he was forced into bankruptcy and mourned the death of his favorite daughter, Suzy. The story still brims with confidence and optimism, marking the moment of hope just before Twain turned to the grim stories of his later years. The story takes place in Victorian London, where Henry Adams, the protagonist, has ended up destitute after a boating accident in the U.S. swept him out to sea. Two rich and eccentric brothers see him and give him an envelope with money inside it: a single bank note for one million pounds. Henry is the subject of a bet: one brother believes that the possession of the symbol of wealth, without any other means of support, will help him survive for the month. The other brother thinks that the prohibition against exchanging the note for cash will render it useless...this is the beginning of a fascinating and rewarding journey for Henry Adams!

When the Divine Plan is stupid, humanity’s future is at stake.
Due to an unfortunate calendar mistake, the Divine Plan faces a hiccup. Instead of giving birth to the Chosen One, the Martian Rebel Keila Eisenstein unleashes the evil Space Demon Rangda Kaliankan and her army of man-eating Xenos upon humankind.
“Fortunately”, The True Maker, the supreme deity of the Milky Way Galaxy, has a plan for dealing with the new threat. To convince Keila’s ex Metatron to find a surrogate mother for his and Keila’s unborn embryo, so the Chosen One can be born and sort out the mess that the True Maker caused. Six months later, Sabina is born.
Meanwhile, the new German leader, Hilda Muller realises how to save Earth from the Xeno invasion. Since the Germans haven’t won a war in a millennium, she bribes the Xeno invaders with copious quantities of German beer, which saves Earth. Because of Hilda’s grand plan, she is promoted to planetary leader.
Having failed to invade Earth, Rangda comes up with a new plan. She allies with the Martian Madman Melchior Dorevitch and his cannibal army. Together they defeat Rangda’s ancient enemies the Zetans. After this, Rangda, and Melchior begins an odyssey around the Milky Way looking for the magical plot devices, the Zeto Crystals.
Eventually, Rangda has all the Zeto Crystals, and Sabina, as the Chosen One, has to face Rangda. But there is an issue… Sabina hasn’t trained and doesn’t seem very keen to carry out the Divine Plan.
In the end, only a miracle can save us!

A gut-busting, only slightly exaggerated memoir of growing up in Pennsylvania’s Anthracite Coal Region in the 1950s and 1960s.   From flattop haircuts to football fanaticism, block parties to balsa wood models, beer to . . . more beer, this is a rollicking, nostalgic account of life in a Pennsylvania coal town. In a region where downtrodden immigrants from Italy, Ireland, and Eastern Europe poured in during the nineteenth century to find work in the mines—except for the ones who got tired and just stopped in New Jersey—a unique culture was passed down from generation to generation, and this book provides a vivid and humorous picture of what it was like to experience childhood there in the mid-twentieth century. Mike Breslin enthusiastically shares his many stories with readers, because his family is sick of hearing them.   And as for the pierogies of the title, no one actually passes them. When the plate comes out, it’s every man for himself.

The #1 New York Times–bestselling author takes on subjects from banking to bitcoin: “Another winner from an A-list humorist.” ―Booklist   Sharp-witted satirist and author of Parliament of Whores P. J. O’Rourke takes on his scariest subjects yet—business, investment, finance, and the political chicanery behind them. Want to get rich overnight for free in three easy steps with no risk? Then don’t buy this book. (Actually, if you believe there’s a book that can do that, you shouldn’t buy any books because you probably can’t read.) P. J. O’Rourke’s approach to business, investment, and finance is different. He takes the risks for you in his chapter “How I Learned Economics by Watching People Try to Kill Each Other.” He proposes “A Way to Raise Taxes That We’ll All Love”—a 200% tax on celebrities. He offers a brief history of economic transitions before exploring the world of high tech innovation with a chapter on “Unnovations,” which asks, “The Internet—whose idea was it to put all the idiots on earth in touch with each other?” He misunderstands bitcoin, which seems “like a weird scam invented by strange geeks with weaponized slide rules in the high school Evil Math Club.” And finally, he offers a fanciful short story about the morning that P. J. wakes up and finds that all the world’s goods and services are free!   “The funniest writer in America.” ―The Wall Street Journal
