Sinopsis

The gentlemen with the wicked, brown eyes, the beautiful young man, whose image had been immortalized more than two centuries before by the artist's brush, seemed much more than pigment and paint and canvas. When best-selling author Rachael Lafferty sees the painting on the auction block, the beautiful young man captures her heart and her writer's imagination. She knows she has to have the painting—it would make the Victorian townhouse she was restoring complete...More complete than she ever could have guessed, for when she brings her prize home and lovingly hangs it on the wall, Dorian Gray's trapped soul steps out of the painting and into her life.Cold. Dark. His much-deserved hell. Those were the only things Dorian had known for more than a century. But, now, impossibly, he finds himself in his own home once more, though a century has passed. He feels warmth once more. And love—his love for Rachael makes him corporeal to her. A love that just might redeem his jaded soul, make him into a new man…Make him alive again…But his presence in the house stirs jealously. Someone dear to Rachael wants the ghost gone from Rachael's life, someone who knows just how to get the job done. And that person won't stop until Dorian Gray is again banished from this earth.

Arthur Llewelyn Jones was born in Caerleon, Monmouthshire on the 3rd March 1863.
Machen came from a long line of clergymen, and when he was two, his father became vicar of a small parish about five miles north of Caerleon, and Machen was brought up at the rectory there.
In his early years he received an excellent classical education, but family poverty ruled out university, and he was sent to London to sit exams to attend medical school but failed the exams. He did show literary promise with the publication of the poem ‘Eleusinia’ in 1821. But life in London was difficult and it was only in 1884 that he published again and was taken on to translate several French works which thereafter became the standard editions for many years.

In 1887, his father died. That same year he married Amelia Hogg, a maverick music teacher with a passion for the theatre. He also began to receive legacies from Scottish relatives which allowed him to devote more time to writing.

After publishing in literary magazines in 1894 he published his first book ‘The Great God Pan’. Its sexual and horrific content very much helped sales.

Over the next decade or so he wrote some of his best work but was unable to find a publisher mainly due to the collapse of the decadent market over Oscar Wilde’s scandalous trial.

In 1899, his wife died and during his long recovery he took up acting and travelled around the country as part of a travelling company. Three years later he was publishing again and had remarried.

Re-publishing of earlier works helped anchor both his reputation and his income. By the time the Great War opened Europe’s wounds he returned to the public eye with ‘The Bowmen’ helped by the publicity around the ‘Angel of Mons’ episode.

However, by the late 20’s new works had dried up and his back catalogue was no longer a source of regular income.

In 1932 he received a Civil List pension of ₤100 per annum but other work was not forthcoming. His finances finally stabilised with a literary appeal in 1943 for his eightieth birthday and allowed him to live his remaining years in relative comfort.

Arthur Machen died on 15th December 1947 in Beaconsfield. He was 84.

A man is prescribed a medicine that turns him from a hard studying student of the law to something so compellingly awful that only Machen himself could have willed it into reality.<

“They Are Everywhere” is a story that combines the elements of the most spine-tingling supernatural horror with the funniest comedy. Never before have malevolent spirits, poltergeists and haunted houses been so funny. Make no mistake though, the terror is real; it’s the witless protagonists and their incredibly inappropriate reactions that give the story its humor. In “They Are Everywhere” you will encounter:
    • A pair of dimwitted and entirely earnest main characters
    • Three separate investigations into paranormal activity that do not go the way you might expect
    • An interesting back story for the two main characters, hinting at past exploits
    • Elements based on other famous and well-known stories of hauntings
    • Scenarios whose truth, whether supernatural or mundane, can easily be discerned by the reader if not by the protagonists
    • A final and interesting secret revealed to the reader if nobody else
Short Story Press publishes short stories written by everyday writers.

SONGS IN THEY KEY OF DEATH, a collection of poetic horror, by JG Faherty
"Songs in the Key of Death is a collection of edgy, stirring poems from the author of such well-known books as Ragman and The Wakening. I was delighted to learn that JG Faherty is expanding his horizons into poetry, and the result is a fascinating compilation of dark enchantments. Highly recommended!" —Jeani Rector, Editor of The Horror Zine
"I love the way JG Faherty's extraordinary poetry collection plays with language, form, and emotion. These pieces are by turns frightening, melancholy, disturbing, smart, and darkly witty. Songs in the Key of Death is a hit!" —Lisa Morton, six-time Bram Stoker Award® winner
"I really enjoyed this collection. The poems are philosophical and eerie, sometimes brutal and disturbing, with a lot of sharp edges and concise choices of language and imagery." —Erinn Kemper, horror and weird fiction author whose stories have appeared in Tor.com, Black Static, Chiral Mad, Prism, Cemetery Dance Magazine, Dark Discoveries, and other markets

What are you supposed to do when the spirit of someone alive suddenly appears?
Having died in the line of duty, Detective Cadence Riley has been recruited to help police haunted locations so that the spirits don't give too much away to the living. She and her partner have also helped protect the living from non-human evil spirits. All is going according to procedure until someone alive appears before her.
Cadence has been reunited with her brother--who died ten years before when the majority of coeds in his dorm were slaughtered. Restoration of the old Victorian style dorm has begun as the college is intent on opening the building up once more. The construction does more than disturb the spirits of the dead, however.
The spirit of an old classmate, one not killed in the massacre, appears out of the blue. As Cadence and Snow begin to put the pieces of the puzzle regarding his sudden appearance in place, it becomes clear that more is at stake. This case, for both the living and the dead, is as dangerous as a raging fire. Someone is bound to get burned.
