  This book is the beginning of my story. If you are reading this, you are either my son or grandson. I hope doing good will be your mission, as it was mine. I lived an entire life with family, true friends, and adventures beyond anything I imagined. I fought in two wars, worked two primary careers, and created wealth to be used to do good. The wealth you will learn about and experience as you turn evil to good. Evil comes from anywhere, anytime. It never sleeps, rests, or needs time off. Many shapes, sizes, personalities, and shades of beauty carry evil.  
  Evil roams through countries, territories, states, counties, cities, large and small towns through people wanting chaos, creating fear and destruction. Countries fight battles to win treasures, land, people, ideas, resources, and freedom or cause despair. Evil disguises itself as fighting for good as it tears good apart. If you stand on the sidelines of life and watch evil overwhelm others, are you assisting the spread of evil? What can I do? I have fought evil most of my life from the shadows. Why is it so hard sometimes to have a life? I have combated evil by attempting to help all I encounter to obtain and maintain what they truly desire in life. Evil manifests by blocking what people need, want, and desire or providing paths leading to destruction, pain, death, or the opposite of what you should do. My philosophy is to unblock seemingly impossible pathways and free people to obtain their destiny by providing help to stay on the paths they were born to follow. Freedom started once I understood how to combat evil with good. While alive, this book is only for you. Your designated heir may read this book, and I hope you will write a book or two.   Luigi Pirandello - A Short Story...

  Luigi Pirandello was born on 28th June 1867 into an upper-class family in Agrigento, in Sicily. 
   
  In 1880, the family moved to Palermo and there he completed high school and thence to the University of Palermo, at that time the centre of what became the Fasci Siciliani movement.  Although not an active member he had close friendships with many of its leading ideologists.  Pirandello then completed his university studies in Rome and Bonn, receiving his Doctorate in March, 1891. 
   
  His time in Rome had provided him with the opportunity to visit its many theatres. "Oh the dramatic theatre! I will conquer it. I cannot enter into one without experiencing a strange sensation, an excitement of the blood through all my veins..." 
   
  1894 brought marriage, at his father's suggestion, to a shy, withdrawn girl: Mara Antonietta Portulano.  The marriage encouraged his studies and writings and, the following year, the first part of the ‘Dialoghi tra Il Gran Me e Il Piccolo Me’ was published. 
   
  In 1903 the flooding of the sulphur mines in which his father had invested the family capital and Antonietta's dowry, brought financial catastrophe.  She, on hearing the news, was mentally broken.  Pirandello would now work a full day and then watch over his troubled wife at night. Somehow he found time to write ‘The Late Mattia Pascal’.  It was an immediate and resounding success.  
   
  In 1909, Pirandello began his collaboration with the prestigious Corriere della Sera.  Whilst his fame as a writer was increasing his private life was poisoned by the suspicion and jealousy of Antonietta who now turned physically violent.  His plays were now being regularly performed but, within a decade, Antonietta had to be placed into an asylum from which she never left. 
   
  In 1921, in Rome his play, ‘Six Characters in Search of an Author’ debuted.  It was a failure.  However, when presented in Milan it was a great success, as it also was in London and New York. 
   
  In 1925, Pirandello, with Mussolini’s help, assumed the artistic direction and ownership of the Teatro d'Arte di Roma.  He now described himself both as ‘a Fascist because I am Italian’ and ‘I'm apolitical, I'm only a man in the world...’  However his later conflicts with fascist leaders meant he fell under close surveillance by the OVRA, the secret police. 
   
  In 1934 he won the Nobel Prize but asked that the medal be melted down for Italy’s occupation of Abyssinia Campaign to which he had given his support.  
   
  Pirandello's canon stretches across novels, short stories, poetry, essays and some 40 plays.  His tragic farces are often cited as forerunners of the Theatre of the Absurd. 
   
  Luigi Pirandello died on the 10th December 1936 at his home at Via Bosio, Rome, Italy.  He was 69.

  Katherine Mansfield was born on 14th October 1888 into a prominent family in Wellington, New Zealand the middle child of five. 
  A gifted Cello player, at one point she thought she might take it up professionally the young Katherine’s first writings were published in school magazines. 
  At 19 Katherine left for Great Britain and met the modernist writers D.H. Lawrence and Virginia Woolf with whom she became close friends. 
  She travelled to Europe before returning to New Zealand in 1906 she began to write the short stories that she would later become famous for. Her stories often focus on moments of disruption and frequently open rather abruptly. In this volume of her poetry her views on life are certainly reflected in her works. By no means is her work great but it is certainly full of interest and observations that make it essential reading for anyone in thrall to her other works. 
  By 1908 she had returned to London and to a rather more bohemian lifestyle. A passionate affair resulted in her becoming pregnant but married off instead to an older man who she left the same evening with the marriage unconsummated. She was then to miscarry and be cut out of her mother’s will (allegedly because of her lesbianism). 
  In 1911 she was to start a relationship with John Middleton Murry a magazine editor and although it was volatile it enabled her to write some of her best stories. 
  During the First World War Mansfield contracted extrapulmonary tuberculosis, which rendered any return or visit to New Zealand impossible and led to her death at the tender age of 34 on January 9th 1923 in Fontainebleau, France.
