Sinopsis

If you're looking for an old-fashioned honest chapbook about the experience of being an amateur tap dancer, look no further. Welcome to the world's first and only tap book written by a student of the art—not a teacher, a studio owner, or an expert. Delve into these real-life tap adventures and let them inspire you to bring the magic of the dance into your own life. This humble chapbook will open your mind to the world of this unique form of dance in ways that only a student of the art could.

Tap Talk, Tidbits, and Tips for Dilettante Tappers will help your brain direct your heart, nerves, muscles, sinew, and soul to serve your tap-dancing goals and increase your tapping fun. Here you will find ideas, suggestions, and discussions about tap, including the fundamental idea that dance is mainly a task of the mind and not just the body. Dr. Patten shows us how the brain and memory benefit hugely from learning dance, backed up by real psychological studies and personal experience with the Silver Star Tappers of Pasadena, Texas.

So, quit delaying, and read what amounts to a satisfying mix of deep scientific fact, real research results, tap tips, tap talk, chit-chat, chatter, and amusing anecdotes. Whet your appetite, and get a head's up on what to expect from tap dancing should you decide to give it a try.

In 2021, Texas Country Reporter celebrates its fiftieth season on the air. Broadcast every week on stations across Texas, it focuses on "ordinary people doing extraordinary things." And at the center of it is Bob Phillips, the show's creator and host—an erstwhile poor kid from Dallas who ended up with a job that allowed him to rub elbows with sports figures, entertainers, and politicians but who preferred to spend his time on the back roads, listening to less-famous Texans tell their stories.

In this memoir, Phillips tells his own story, from his early days as a reporter and his initial pitch for the show while a student at SMU to his ongoing work at the longest-running independently produced television show in American television history. As we travel with Phillips on his journey, we meet Willie Nelson and former Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry; reflect on memorable, unusual, and challenging show segments; experience the behind-the-scenes drama that goes on in local television; witness the launching of an annual festival; and discover the unbelievable allure of Texas, its culture, and, especially, its people. Spanning generations, A Good Long Drive is proof that life's journey really is a destination unto itself.

    The Songwriting Magic Formula
    The shortcut to melody creation
The songwriting tips and tricks no one ever told you about.
Instantly compose HIT vocal melodies with the backing chords at the same time.
This audio book dispels the myths of songwriting and destroys the negatives that hold songwriters back
and ends songwriters block in melody.
    Short extract from book
Let’s get rid of a few myths. There’s no set way to create a melody.
This is True and at the same time Not true. But only in the minds of those people that know everything ?
Pupil says to mentor, “I know you’re going to teach me how to write better songs, but how do I come up with the actual melody?”
The mentor turns to the pupil and says. “Well, that’s the million dollar question. I wish I could just say, ‘sit there with your guitar do this, and out will pop a melody’. But unfortunately, there’s no such thing as a magic formula”.
This isn’t true. Let’s blow the other myth out of the water. The one where they say composing cannot be taught. Well, I’ve just learned you how to create 2 HIT vocal melodies in examples 1 and 2 another vocal melody in less than 15 seconds in example three and 2 more in the challenge. Usually it only takes a few seconds to hear the new melody being born. Now you can teach your friends and family how to compose a melody in less than 10 minutes. Even if they’ve never composed a melody before.
And not just any melodies but catchy hit melodies.

The cassette tape was revolutionary. Cheap, portable, and reusable, this small plastic rectangle changed music history. Make your own tapes! Trade them with friends! Tape over the ones you don't like! The cassette tape upended pop culture, creating movements and uniting communities.

This entertaining book charts the journey of the cassette from its invention in the early 1960s to its Walkman-led domination in the 1980s to decline at the birth of compact discs to resurgence among independent music makers. Scorned by the record industry for "killing music," the cassette tape rippled through scenes corporations couldn't control. For so many, tapes meant freedom—to create, to invent, to connect.

Marc Masters introduces listeners to the tape artists who thrive underground; concert tapers who trade bootlegs; mixtape makers who send messages with cassettes; tape hunters who rescue forgotten sounds; and today's labels, which reject streaming and sell music on cassette. Their stories celebrate the cassette tape as dangerous, vital, and radical.
