Sinopsis

In his quest for revenge, a Celtic hero must outwit an ice-breathing dragon and an evil, shape-shifting sorceress Yards shorter than his brothers and sisters, Celtic giant Finn McCool is the runt of the litter. Still, he is eager to fight evil and is consumed by the need to avenge his father’s murder. Thwarting his mission is Drabne of Dole, who can change shape at will. Also known as the Fish Hag and the Winter Witch, she fiercely guards her underworld terrain, keeping a watchful eye on the Salmon of Knowledge, lest he try to teach ignorant creatures what they have no right to learn. Now she is scheming to destroy Finn, who has just been given a precious gift by the Thrig of Tone, himself imprisoned in the wicked sorceress’s spell. Finn will need all his courage and cunning to outwit Drabne and lay a trap for Goll McMorna, the war chief who slew his father. On his journey from boyhood to manhood, Finn meets an ancient wizard, an ice-breathing dragon, and a fiend named Vilemurk, among others, in this imaginative retelling of one of Ireland’s most enduring myths.

ABOUT THE SERIES The MacGregor Family Adventure Series has received praise from School Library Journal for featuring "a strong family unit with realistic sibling rivalry and respect for parents." Reviewers, teachers, librarians, and young readers have praised the series' sensitivity to other cultures and its balanced view of environmental issues as well as the research and attention to detail regarding foreign landscapes, technology, and sociopolitical issues. The books have also been used to encourage reluctant readers due to Trout's fast-paced writing and his signature inclusion of scenes depicting outdoor adventure sports like scuba diving, whitewater rafting, and rock climbing as well as refreshingly realistic teenage dialogue.ABOUT THE AUTHOR Richard Trout is a professor of biological sciences. His other books in the MacGregor Family Adventure Series include Cayman Gold: Lost Treasure of Devils Grotto, Elephant Tears: Mask of the Elephant, Falcon of Abydos: Oracle of the Nile, Czar of Alaska: The Cross of Charlemagne, and Sign of the Dragon, all available from Pelican. His first novel, Cayman Gold, was selected for the National Geographic Society's JASON Project 2006.

IRL is a sweaty summertime poem composed like a long text message, rooted in the epic tradition of A.R. Ammons, ancient Kumeyaay Bird Songs, and Beyoncé’s visual albums. It follows Teebs, a reservation-born, queer NDN weirdo, trying to figure out his impulses/desires/history in the midst of Brooklyn rooftops, privacy in the age of the Internet, street harassment, suicide, boys boys boys, literature, colonialism, religion, leaving one's 20s, and a love/hate relationship with English. He’s plagued by an indecision, unsure of which obsessions, attractions, and impulses are essentially his, and which are the result of Christian conversion, hetero-patriarchal/colonialist white supremacy, homophobia, Bacardi, gummy candy, and not getting laid.IRL asks, what happens to a modern, queer indigenous person a few generations after his ancestors were alienated from their language, their religion, and their history? Teebs feels compelled towards “boys, burgers, booze”, though he begins to suspect there is perhaps a more ancient goddess calling to him behind art, behind music, behind poetry.
