Beschreibung

"Volpone: The Fox" is a satirical comedy by Ben Jonson. Volpone, a cunning and wealthy Venetian, pretends to be on his deathbed, enticing greedy acquaintances to offer him gifts in hopes of becoming his heir. Through this ruse, Volpone amasses wealth while toying with the aspirations of those around him. As the web of deception grows, absurd situations, mistaken identities, and comedic chaos ensue. Jonson's play critiques human greed and societal vices, exploring the consequences of unchecked ambition and the lengths people will go to attain material gain.

The Soul´s Journey Home is a collection of poems borne out of a spiritual journey brought about due to the pandemic a few years ago. The resulting awakening provided me with the answers to many questions I was unsure about with regards to faith and spirituality and the discovery can have widespread benefits within every aspect of a persons life. The purpose of my poetry is to encourage curiosity within the reader and convey how our answers are well within our reach and closer than we might have imagined.

She opened her mouth to scream, but he slapped something across her lips. The gag tasted of salt and mould, rough sacking on her tongue.
With a terrifying certainty, she knew she was going to die.
DI Geraldine Steel knows people go missing all the time; sometimes because they don't want to be found. So when her partner Ian asks her to look into the disappearance of his friend's girlfriend, her first instinct is to reassure him there's no need for concern.
Until she's called to a suspected murder, and all her instincts tell her she's right about the identity of the victim.
The young woman has earth and leaf mould and fragments of twigs in her long fair hair, her nose, her mouth, under her finger nails, clinging to her clothes.
It's as if she'd been completely encased in earth.
And yet she was found on the pavement, at the side of a suburban road, where she wasn't in contact with any soil or mud.
Had she managed to escape a living grave?
She needs to find out what really happened. Where did the assault occur?
Why are there traces of DNA from two other unidentified sources on the body?
What reason could there be to attack a popular young woman who never did anyone any harm?
And why bury her body so carelessly that she was able to escape?
Then another young woman is reported missing. Unless he has an accomplice, they have an innocent man in custody. And Steel is running out of time . . .
A page-turning puzzle of a case with an unexpected final twist. If you're a fan of Angela Marsons, Mel Sherratt and Karin Slaughter, you'll love Leigh Russell.
Can be read as a stand-alone.

I wrote most of these poems while the memories of a woman from my past scraped at my mind.
I've learned to accept that life is about overcoming desire and finding peace in not getting what you want, but I'm only human, which means sometimes I enjoy entertaining an erotic, morbid, desperate, and painfully hopeful side of me when the mood strikes.
My bottom line is this: if you've ever loved someone too much, or missed someone you couldn't forget, this modest collection of words and ideas might feel familiar.

From the legendary avant-garde poet Kim Hyesoon, a landmark collection documenting her first and only work of digital performance art to date.
“Poetry in Korea has been a vaunted form—and traditionally left to men. Kim broke away from the masculine styles that came before her. . . . Kim has pursued a vernacular that’s intensely Korean yet open to the world.” —E. Tammy Kim, New Yorker
In March 2014, Kim Hyesoon, the grand dame of contemporary Korean poetry, began to post anonymously on the online blog of Munhakdongne, a major South Korean publisher. Rather than use her own name, Kim Hyesoon’s chosen persona for these blog posts was Lady No. Fittingly, Lady No’s writings are dissenting, combative, subversive, and ontologically feminine; formally, they defy any attempt at easy categorization. They are neither poems, nor are they prose, but a radical innovation Kim calls shisanmun—an ungovernable style that heralds her internationally acclaimed works Autobiography of Death and Phantom Pain Wings.
The entries in this seminal collection, arranged chronologically and in their entirety here for the first time, are an eclectic hybrid of opinion editorials, aphorisms, recipes, daydreams, travelogues, art criticism, as well as treatises on the metaphysics of poetry and the current state of international literature. They take place in and around the world but most often they return to a country called Aerok, a frightening yet familiar mirror of contemporary Korea. First unwittingly, and then with concentrated grief, they chart the course of one of the most politically significant years in recent South Korean history: the sinking of the MV Sewol on the morning of April 16th that killed 304 people, including 250 high school students, and the reverberations of this national tragedy that culminated in the impeachment and ouster of the country’s then-sitting president. Taken together, these writings bear witness to the people’s shame, mourning, and perseverance under a corrupt administration—a painful public reckoning not dissimilar from our own.
Surreal but visceral, and inflected with both humor and rage, Lady No contains perhaps the most accessible of Kim Hyesoon’s writing to date and documents her first and only work of digital performance art. Totaling 179 individual entries, Lady No explores the inner and outer lives of contemporary Korean women and embodies the inextricable link between social justice and literary citizenship.

In this lyrical and speculative mosaic novel, enter the fractured worlds of an actress, playwright, and immortal poet, whose legend and influence create an energetic web, equal parts love triangle and haunted house of mirrors. At the bated edge of dream and revelation, spanning New York, Mexico, and a twilight Bardo realm, each of the characters—Viola, Evie and Arturo—undertake metamorphic journeys through the interior hinterlands of the psyche, in their quest for home and spiritual reckoning. Mythology, pop culture, cinema, theater, and sorcery dwell in the multi-chambered heart of the mutable narrative, which includes Joan of Arc, a teenage suicide cult, the Arcana of the Tarot, vaudeville remixes, shamanic alchemy, and a mystical radio whose bandwidth covers all of time, space and history.
What others are saying: John Biscello’s astonishing work, The Last Furies, is a vaudeville routine wrapped around a radio drama, tucked into a theater piece, bound by a screenplay, drawn into a rich and sprawling novel… – Louis Greenstein, author of The Song of Life and Mr. Boardwalk
What others are saying: The Last Furies invites you on a hallucinogenic trip, where immortal archetypes whirl through shifting masks in a dreamscape that is equally out of time and of our time. But don’t be fooled by the illusion of fragmentation: all is interconnected in this magical, unforgettable, and fearless fusion of experimental mediums—a feat only possible thanks to the storied and wild mind of John Biscello. – Johanna DeBiase, Author of Mama & the Hungry Hole and Gestation
