Sinopse

The "14 Bagatelles, Op.6" by Béla Bartók are a significant collection in the world of classical music, showcasing Bartók's evolving style and his interest in folk music. Composed in 1908, these pieces represent a departure from the Romantic style of his earlier works and a move towards a more modernist, even experimental approach.
Here are some key aspects of the 14 Bagatelles:

Stylistic Shift: This collection marks a clear shift in Bartók's compositional style. The pieces are more abstract, atonal at times, and show a significant departure from the influence of composers like Brahms and Strauss, which were evident in his earlier works.
Influence of Folk Music: Bartók was deeply influenced by Hungarian and other Eastern European folk music. This influence is evident in the Bagatelles, both in terms of melody and rhythm. He began to incorporate these elements more freely, moving away from traditional Western classical forms.
Experimental Techniques: Bartók experimented with various new techniques in these pieces, including unconventional scales, irregular rhythms, and dissonance. This experimentation laid the groundwork for his later, more mature style.
Emotional Depth and Range: Despite their brevity, the Bagatelles are rich in emotional content and range. They capture a wide spectrum of moods, from melancholy to playfulness.
Influence on Modern Music: The 14 Bagatelles are considered to be among the precursors of modernist music in the 20th century. Bartók's innovative approach in these pieces influenced many later composers.
Structure and Form: Each Bagatelle is relatively short but distinct, showcasing Bartók's ability to express complex ideas and emotions in a condensed form.

These pieces are not only important in understanding Bartók's development as a composer but also in the evolution of classical music in the early 20th century. They continue to be studied and performed widely, offering insights into the blending of folk influences with modernist musical techniques.

When Bruce Springsteen went back on the road in 1984, he opened every show by shouting out, ""one, two, one, two, three, four,"" followed by the droning synth chords of ""Born in the U.S.A."" Max Weinberg hit his drums with a two-fisted physicality that cut through the swelling chords. With a rolled-up red kerchief around his head and heavy black boots under his faded jeans, Springsteen looked like the character of the song, and from the very first line (""Born down in a dead man's town"") he sang with the throat-scraping desperation of a man with his back against the wall. When he reached the crucial lines, though, the guitars and bass dropped out and Weinberg switched to just the hi-hat. Springsteen's voice grew a bit more private and reluctant as he sang, ""Nowhere to run. Nowhere to go."" It was as if he weren't sure if this were an admission of defeat or the drawing of a line in the sand. But when the band came crashing back at full strength—building a crescendo that fell apart in the cacophony of Springsteen's and Weinberg's wild soloing, paused and then came together again in the determined, marching riff—it was clear that the singer was ready to make a stand.
