Born in Cambridge, England, to an upper-middle-class family, John Maynard Keynes (1883-1946) attended Eton College and King’s College, Cambridge, where he received a BA in mathematics in 1904. From an early age, he evinced an optimism about improving human life and believed in the power of government to change things for the better. During World War I, Keynes served in the Treasury and his success in this role led to his appointment as a representative to the Versailles peace conference in 1919. While this experience was ultimately frustrating and disillusioning, it laid the foundation for his later work during the Great Depression and World War II, when his ideas gained increasing influence and were gradually adopted by economic policymakers throughout the world.
In Simply Keynes, Professor Roger Backhouse provides a comprehensive introduction to Keynes and Keynesianism, arguing that Keynes should be seen not only as an economist, but also as a moral philosopher who believed the state had a moral obligation to intervene for the greater good. Beginning with the economist’s early life and the context in which his ideas arose, Professor Backhouse chronicles the transformation of economics in the so-called “Age of Keynes,” the opposition that arose in the 1970s, and the revival of Keynesianism following the 2007-08 global financial crisis.
For 100 years, the ideas of John Maynard Keynes have been central to discussions and decision-making about economics, free markets, and the role of government in capitalist systems. With admirable concision and clarity, Simply Keynes allows the lay reader to understand not only the critical importance of Keynes’s ideas in recent history, but also their continued relevance in our own day and into the future.

This is a rhymed story is about Captain Bossman's personal branding adventure and how your CV or resume writing can be turned into a cult classic! It's all about how you frame the narrative...
What's the story with these statues?
At first glance these statuesque creations look like characters from a superhero academy, but they're a part of our gender-ethnic-religious neutral metaphor universe. It's a story about our protagonist Captain Bossman, the ultimate mentor, a statue from the Hall of heroes, a memento-vivere and a zeitgeist of times gone by. This fictional character with a rich story to match an even richer personality has seen it all. Although being drawn as a masculine anthropomorphic statue, our character's main values endorse a universally inclusive prosocial approach towards humanizing work in the modern era.
Is it a personal branding book? Well, yes and no. It's about the different hats we wear on our jobs, sometimes working multiple positions without acknowledging how valuable and difficult that is. We use the example of Captain Bossman wearing the mentor's hat across different jobs, to showcase just how important it is to emphasize your qualities to gain workplace appreciation. The art is in doing it without overdoing it and turning to overselling to gain some appreciation of your skills.
    Where's the lesson?
We use the "many hats of Captain Bossman" metaphor as an example of viewing yourself as a human brand both online and offline. If you're a human brand, then every professional workplace experience is a chance to showcase some of your qualities, right? Different qualities you emphasize in different positions across different industries help tell the story of your professional life. A narrative that is interesting and worthy of everyone's time, teaching us a bit about the human experience.

    Decolonizing Wealth Second...

This second edition expands the provocative analysis of the racist colonial dynamics at play in philanthropy and finance into other sectors and offers practical advice on how anyone can be a healer.

The world is out of balance. With increasing frequency, we are presented with the inescapable truth that systemic racism and colonial structures are foundational principles to our economies. The $1 trillion philanthropic industry is one example of a system that mirrors oppressive colonial behavior. It's an industry whose name means “the love for humankind,” yet it does more harm than good.

In Decolonizing Wealth, Edgar Villanueva looks past philanthropy's glamorous, altruistic façade and into its shadows: white supremacy, savior complexes, and internalized oppression. Across history and to the present day, the accumulation of wealth is steeped in trauma. How can we shift philanthropy toward social reconciliation and healing if the cornerstones are exploitation, extraction, and control?

Drawing from Native traditions, Villanueva empowers individuals and institutions to begin to repair the damage through his Seven Steps to Healing. In this second edition, Villanueva adds inspiring examples of people using their resources to decolonize entertainment, museums, libraries, land ownership, and much more.

Everyone can be a healer and a leader in restoring balance-and we need everyone to do their part. As Villanueva writes, “All our suffering is mutual. All our healing is mutual. All our thriving is mutual.” Are you ready?
